So existence is a net negative? I’m fairly pessimistic but that seems somewhat extreme.

I’ve seen it around Africa. Usually related to where there’s a bunch of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
So it’s USA again. Usual bullshit colonialism.

Pretty sure jews didn’t own slaves back then.

How many people have prayed for the sick over the years? That’s the foundation for public support of scientific research. Science is a social pursuit that shouldn’t be credited solely to some priestly class of “scientists”.

Nah, the actual problem is all the wind mills and solar panels. They’re screwing up the weather!!!
(I seriously had a chud tell me this.)

Inspiring but too rare.

USA is the source of fascism, not the victim.

Sure, but that doesn’t mean anything has been solved.

- Comment on Bill to raise minimum wage to $25 an hour will be introduced in Senate 4 weeks ago:
Less minimum wage should be tied to inflation, more minimum wage should be tied to congressional salary.
These two wages should be the same.
- Comment on Bill to raise minimum wage to $25 an hour will be introduced in Senate 4 weeks ago:
Yes, people are generally in touch with reality on this topic.

This is in really poor taste considering what happened to the kid in the picture.
We should oppose fascism without belittling its victims, regardless of which state they’re under.
- Comment on Do you think that Edward Snowden is a hero? 5 weeks ago:
It’s wild how many people downvote this perspecive.
I imagine people can’t understand the evil that snowden has done, because we never confront the evil that we all do as victims of capitalism.
- Comment on Do you think that Edward Snowden is a hero? 5 weeks ago:
Government institution = fascist services.
The NSA? Yes ofc.
- Comment on Do you think that Edward Snowden is a hero? 5 weeks ago:
No. He’s just another dude like anybody else.
He lived a life of serving empire. It’s admirable that he repented but that doesn’t make him a hero, especially versus people who have spent their lives doing good all along.

They weren’t fighting over some mode of production.
The enslavers were killing people in order to maintain their extreme privilege based on violent control.
Nothing much has changed since then.

The shoulder has no shoulder. Probably not safe.

I might go even further and say there’s no “math”. There are a wide variety of axiomatic systems. None has the sole claim to being “math”.
- Comment on Theories on Theories 2 months ago:
I think saying that a theorem is true presumes the axioms upon which it is based and so the entire system is “true everywhere forever”.
I often find it helpful to think of chess as my axiomatic system. When we say the king is in checkmate, it presumes that we accept all the underlying rules of chess. And these pieces that theoretically form a checkmate will always do so forever… Assuming the regular rules of chess, etc.
When you put things in terms of chess, these “deep” statements about “math” often become banal.

TBH I think Genesis 1:1 is much more about big bang denial than evolution.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
