I’m fairly certain that episode aired at least a week before the dinner shown in this post. It’s like reality couldn’t stand to be outdone by South Park.

Not sure when the meeting happened, but the episode is almost three (3) weeks out by now

Only dictators get praised like that
LoafedBurrito@lemmy.world 14 hours ago
This is so disgusting when you realize the amount of criminals at that table and they are all against us.
Also notice how the word “innovation” is used so often with these tech idiots? It’s a way to cover up all the sinister stuff they are doing to us while they give you more brain rot apps to harvest your data from.
This is a dictatorship, thanks republicans. The last nail in the coffin is being driven in.
BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 9 hours ago
I guarantee that not one “innovation” from their companies came from any of those Sociopaths. Everything of value their companies produce come from people who took on tens of thousands in student debt so they could have an education that gets them a job slaving 80 hours a week to create profit for a billionaire, who will take full credit and compensation for their work, pay them a non-living wage, and fire them the instant he THINKS they can be replaced by AI.
CptOblivius@lemmy.world 14 hours ago
This is one of the most disgusting and disappointing things I’ve seen in Trump’s administration. And not that the list of things is small either. Even Gates, all the good he has done recently has been erased imo.
explodicle@sh.itjust.works 12 hours ago
Gates was always a loathsome piece of shit. Sorry if you already knew this, but here’s a diagram for the uninitiated:
Gates’ monopoly literally destroyed the yellow area so he could get a bigger blue area, and now he gives back a portion of that blue area. The yellow area is good deals for everyone else that never happened and are now gone. That means that for all the people he’s helped with his charity, he’s hurt everyone even more! We can see the benefit of his donations; we can’t see the better world we would’ve had if he had never been born. We did not need him to develop computers.
Gates deserves the same treatment as all billionaires.
sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 11 hours ago
I don't get gates simping...he learned in 1990s a oht PR and has been playing it well and normies larp it.
cute_noker@feddit.dk 9 hours ago
Monopolies are very expensive for the society.
I am not very skilled in economics but i feel like software scales really well, so the supply costs should be more flat. And maybe even negative. Meaning that the producer surplus will actually be a lot larger than the heuristic example here. Meaning that Gates has robbed us even more.
BurgerBaron@piefed.social 14 hours ago
Gates is incredibly disappointing. Now I'm left wondering if he raped kids.
CptOblivius@lemmy.world 12 hours ago
There has been some suspicion/rumors. But like everyone else on the list, nothing can be proven with the degree of protection the administration has given them.

But_my_mom_says_im_cool@lemmy.world 9 hours ago
Can we stop pretending now that bill gates is a good guy cause he pledged to donate his money to charities run by his kids?
And to the Lemmy folk, Also Gabe, he’s not your billionaire and steam is not your corporation. Stop worshipping these monsters.
anon@lemmy.sdf.org 9 hours ago
Gabe is not a monster. He’s using his money to support research and Valve is one of the few companies not enshittified. It has great pro-customer features like family share and a generous return policy.
I don’t think we should have billionaires, but not all of them are parasites on society.
But_my_mom_says_im_cool@lemmy.world 9 hours ago
The propaganda is strong. He’s not your friend, he only wants your money, his company is not altruistic. They’re capitalists and they contribute to the abuse of game developers

That was physically sickening to watch. It literally made my stomach churn. I’m both horrified by them and embarrassed for them at the same time. A room full of weasels.
join@lemmy.ml 18 hours ago
Why, what did you expect from billionaires? That their carefully crafted image was actually genuine? That they care about anything besides hard cash and raw power? That you can get into such a position by being an emphatic person that believes in common values?
I guess their PR teams were worth the money then.

You know, it may be possible that all the ass-kissing is being done by people who also need their names scrubbed from the Trumpstein files.
Or else, they really just have no problem associating with a child rapist. Business or not, it has terrible optics.
HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 13 hours ago
For some like Gates, they probably want to keep the list private since they are on it; I feel like this was a big reason for his divorce.
For others, it is likely centered around the idea that Trump will let them do whatever they want as monopolies. It will shoot themselves in the foot as other countries dump US tech, but they will be able to keep their domains within the USA.
PokerChips@programming.dev 16 hours ago
This is what I’ve realized. Same with all the famous people who defy logic and support him. It will make sense now
RFKJrsBrainworm@sh.itjust.works 1 day ago
Or perhaps they realize or perhaps they realize he has no idea what the technology is capable of and they can make Mass databases and run wild while no adults are watching.
Pechente@feddit.org 1 day ago
That’s so disgusting. Together these company leaders have unprecedented power (much more than they should have) but instead of fighting this administration, they support it.
And no, this is ultimately not good for them. Yes, Trump is easily impressed by hollow compliments and meaningless presents, but he gets upset just as easily. A true lawful administration on the other hand might be annoying with its regulations but it gives you the ability to know what you’re up to and plan ahead for the long run.
Apart from all the other concerns, this behavior is incredibly short-sighted.

Putin offered the oligarchs a deal: bend to my authority, stay out of my way, and you can keep your mansions, superyachts, private jets, and multibillion-dollar corporations (corporations that, just a few years before, had been owned by the Russian government). In the coming years, the oligarchs who reneged on this deal and undermined Putin would be thrown into a Siberian prison or be forced into exile or die in suspicious circumstances. The loyalists who remained — and the new ones who got filthy rich during Putin's long reign — became like ATM machines for the president and his allies.

So use open source software, or indie developer software instead. Boycott the big tech. Build better things from scratch, and then we can ignore what these few people do.
Jack_Burton@lemmy.ca 1 day ago
Yep. 3 weeks ago I switched my main PC to Linux (which has been a hard road since I use it for work). It was the last attachment to Big Tech I had left, and I can now say I don’t use anything from any company who’s CEO was at the inauguration or has since bent the knee. Feels great.

In case you weren’t aware they do this to every president. Companies like Google end up bending down to the president since they are scared of antitrust lawsuits.
It is messed up and ethically questionable but it is the world we live in.
absentbird@lemmy.world 1 day ago
This does not happen under every president, it’s super fucking weird.
Here’s a meeting under Biden for example: www.youtube.com/live/QDXZ2V9XoEU notice how they thank the tech people for being able to attend, then get into the topic, there isn’t a round of slobbering over the president.
Here’s a meeting that happened under Obama: youtu.be/RXvo8ChVieU once again Obama is the one thanking the attendees.
The current situation with trump is highly abberant and deeply unsettling, please do not sanewash it.

It’s funny to see Bill Gates has become a Trump supporter after he spent the past decades pretending to care about a bunch of causes, like vaccination programs in Africa, that Trump has taken a huge dump all over. Or not really funny so much as horrific and disgusting. I always suspected he was faking it to rehab his image.
pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 1 day ago
I think it was his wife at the time’s doing anyway. She wanted to do all that stuff. Also, trump knows who was in the epstein files, bill gates was on epstein’s plane. This seems like people getting blackmailed. Not sure of what he has on the rest of them.
BCsven@lemmy.ca 1 day ago
That was my first thought when it was noted that gates had been to the island and then his wife divorced him. She probably learned a lot about Bill suddenly
ultranaut@lemmy.world 1 day ago
That is a great point, we know for sure that Gates was friends with Epstein. I recall it even being in the media that one of the reasons his wife divorced him is because she found out about their relationship. It seems very plausible that Trump is blackmailing Gates, and others at that table. I know at least Brin has a reputation and rumors around him. Altman also had that accusation from his sister a few years ago, but it was never substantiated to my knowledge and I believe it turned out she has a life long severe mental illness that makes her delusional. Regardless, these are rich and powerful guys who no doubt have lots of things to hide and Trump is certainly not above coercion, I’d say he even enjoys it.
TwinTitans@lemmy.world 1 day ago
All companies that are on their way to being replaced in the coming decades.
regedit@lemmy.zip 17 hours ago
I think that’s part of why Bill and Melinda divorced. Melinda was always the philanthropist. They divorced right around the time Bill started buying up farm land in the Midwest, likely to hedge against food shortages he knew would take place as runaway climate change decimates a lot of the country. It was also around 2020, during the height of COVID, so a lot of that land was dirt (pun intended) cheap.
Just speculation on my part, but a lot of his moves around the time of his divorce coincided with his more capitalistic endeavors, including the pressure he put on Moderna and others to withhold releasing the COVID vaccine for free.
zebidiah@lemmy.ca 14 hours ago
I thought they quietly divorced after Bill’s name showed up on the Epstein flight logs…

lemmeLurk@lemmy.zip 1 day ago
I think for a lot of them, they don’t agree with most of his policies, but as CEO of such big companies you can not openly oppose him. They would lose a fortune, so instead they try to get the most out of it for their company.
Also, you gotta see it from their view. They are stuck with him now for 3 more years. In 3 years AI will keep getting bigger and may change a lot, loosing those 3 years because of trying to make a stand, might mean lossing your position on the table and your influence on its development completely.
All that said, I’m not saying it’s good that that’s what they are doing, but I can see some strategy in doing it like that
topherclay@lemmy.world 1 day ago
You skipped the part where they absolutely do not value human life or care about the suffering of others. That explains the most why this is the easiest option for them to continue wielding their power without having to compromise on any ethical or moral value in their life.
You can’t accurately (nor truthfully) look at from their point of view without adopting that specific part of their view.
