- Comment on Can't react to certain posts of other lemmy users, why? 4 hours ago:
Oh, I did not realize that it worked this way. I always figured the reply object would have to first be created on the post’s original server (simply listing the reply creator as being from a foreign server) and then federated outwards from the post’s original sever again. I did not realize that replies could be directly created on foreign servers, as from the viewpoint of the original post server.
- Comment on How to relax and most importantly stop thinking about the things i could be doing? 11 hours ago:
This is (sadly) such an important statement in our modern world.

Kayak? I’m really having trouble imagining how that works. Is that still normal police giving out the DUI or some kind of water police along a beach? Could you explain some more to put my imagination at ease?
- Comment on My Bank Recently Changed Their Interface to Move Money Between Accounts 14 hours ago:
Maybe to get a bunch of people to overdraft and then ahve to pay overdraft fees?
- Comment on does the new employee eventually stop being the one given the most tasks? 17 hours ago:
This sounds like the handbook to CIA infiltration and subversion! Bet yes, this would help build a better work culture at this particular workspace.
- Comment on What are some franchises with characters that personify countries? 17 hours ago:
Maybe I am completely misunderstanding, but wouldn’t Marianne be the main character representing France?
- Comment on [deleted] 1 day ago:
That actually seems very sensible. I was thinking about it from the standpoint of me and my own name, and not like OP needs for a child. For a child a standard name might be a better option so that it does not incure bullying etc. and the child can always choose to change their name, based on their own preferences, when they are older.
- Comment on Why are a lot of statues vandalised with traffic cones in Scotland? 1 day ago:
I suspect this might be part of the reason why it is catching on. Its harder to prosecute someone for doing this than say spraypainting the statue, as the statue is in no way damaged by the act.
- Comment on How long do we have before PCs get locked bootloaders and corporations ban installation of "non-approved" software? (for context: Google is restricting sideloading worldwide on Android ETA 2027) 1 day ago:
And wasn’t there already some kind of security certificate issue with secure boot? It is like always, in the name of security and safety the free software/hardware gets locked away and ends up being less secure afterwards.
- Comment on Who are the "middle class" supposed to support in the class stuggle? 1 day ago:
This, lets not forget that there used to be poor aristocrats. The amount of assets you have does not necessarily define your class, but rather how you are forced to spend your life time.
- Comment on do you apologize, even if it's not your fault just to make the other person feel validated? 1 day ago:
… sorry …
I hate you dear sir, but take my upvote for this great comment.
- Comment on The USA prided itself on a nation of immigrant, heck even the Statue of Liberty says it. When did immigrants (US citizens from the old world) become anti immigrant and why? 1 day ago:
They have always been anti-immigrant. Gor the longest time they simply tolerated it, but no more.
As for the the statue of liberty, a, it was built by the French not Americans, b, I can also happily say that I pride myself on being a great person, while in truth being a terrible peraon.
- Comment on Is a monocle uncomfortable to wear? 1 day ago:
I would also contribute that it depends on the formation of your own eye socket. A lot of Asian people have eyes that are less recessed into the eye socket which makes monocles virtually impossible to wear.
- Comment on would you visit an authoritarian country if you had the chance to live there up to 4 weeks for free even if you believe multiparty democracy to be something non negotiable? 1 day ago:
If you already say in advance that you cannot accept the mainland Chinese political system and it’s set of rules, then I can hardly suggest to go there. If you start disagreeing with others publically and become a problem person you will end up in jail rather quickly. Whether you believe that to be rightful/proper justice or not, will not matter.

Even if it isn’t a designed honeypot, it sounds like OP will land themselves in jail either way.
- Comment on [deleted] 1 day ago:
Just my personal opinion, but your name should be something you feel happy with and should not depend on whether it will be easily pronouncable by others. Different names will be vastly more easy/more difficult to pronounce in different places if the child ever moves to a foreign country, so this is kind of unpredictable to begin with.
- Comment on Can't react to certain posts of other lemmy users, why? 1 day ago:
And also what instance the original post is on that you would like to comment to. Could this maybe be some kind of one-sided federation issue? Where posts get federated to your home instance, but replies grom your home instance are not being accepted by OP’s instance?
- Comment on [deleted] 1 day ago:
So use open source software, or indie developer software instead. Boycott the big tech. Build better things from scratch, and then we can ignore what these few people do.
