Learn how to garden. You can grow a tremendous amount of food even in small spaces. More people growing more of their own food is important. You don’t even have to be 100% self sufficient but you can grow a hundred pounds of potatoes in 4 square feet with the right techniques.
One thing that won’t get shut down is ICE, which means some marginalized people will be afraid to get to and from food banks. So along with helping them stay stocked, you might see if there’s anyone organizing deliveries and join that.
To play devils advocate here: So you help tide the people over that are carelessly thrown away by the disfunctional US government. Just so they can go back to doing what the government wants once the government starts paying them again? I would say these people need to learn not to trust the government and find jobs elsewhere.

After having lived though many of these. Just turn off the news for a few weeks. You probably won’t even notice when it comes back without someone telling you.
