People didn’t want to work 6 days a week. People didn’t want to work 12h a day. People didn’t want to see their kids work at 5 years old.
They didn’t post on Facebook, they unionized and fought for their rights. Crazy idea, huh?

Almost seems like the free market can regulate itself here, dosen’t it? If you can’t find people working for the price you are offering, then I guess you just need to up your offering until you find someone…
Capitalists only believe in free markets when it benefits them. When free markets work against them, they become state planners real fast.
Yup. Just like the government bailing out companies when they fail. Free market? bullshit.
Or you can always bribe some officials so you can issue visas to import some cheap labour…
Yeah and they just might decide to become self employed and compete with the lowballing asshole. In this case the market pressure firmly points in the direction of self employment. Too many people like to give up their choices just to have stable employment without fluctuations. It reduces competition unfairly. Become an employer and then don’t forget to do better with your employees.
Can’t afford to start my own business. The billionaires stole 1/3 of my worth, and the government another 1/3.
“Nobody wants to work” is just code for “Nobody wants to be exploited.”
Also a theory I have one some of this, especially minimum wage jobs.
COVID opened a LOT of people’s eyes to the level of exploitation going on, especially so for any “secondary income” people in the house.
When the local restaurant closed, and the wife (not being sexist, just, the reality of our society is it’s usually the wife/mom/woman) wasn’t working, and she was cooking at home more and being with the kids more because home schooling. These families realized that at the end of the day, they were not doing worse off.
Like basically, they realized that secondary, min wage job, was just covering the travel expense for that job, and daycare/babysitter for the kids while at that job, and maybe food that was eating out that had been replaced with leftovers or whatever now.
That job wasn’t actually bringing in significant money.
yep, and in states like austria the amount of pension you can accrue with these part time jobs nearly isn’t worth the hustle, which is probably the shittiest thing about the situation.
The system isn’t broken. It’s working exactly as intended.
We could create great things for humanity and the world. But we work in factories making things that get marketed to be sold so a line can go up.
Less than 20% of people work in factories (if we are talking about 2026 developed countries). It’s not 1880 England anymore.
Everytime I hear “people don’t want to work” or “there is not enough workers in a certain field” I always add in my head “for the price we want to pay them”
Fix Fuck the system. Put an end to billionaires. Start there and we’ll talk.
Yeah this right here. Fuck putting capitalism on life support. It’s obviously eating itself at increasing rates, otherwise we would still be in a neolib “democracy”.
Let’s fucking end this shit. Capitalism has hit the bounds of the planetary systems, which is not to say billionaires won’t try to rape the world even harder, but that at a certain point, the effort you put in is FAR greater than the resources and assets you extract.
Let’s burn this fucking shit to the ground. Fuck Empire, fuck white supremacy, fuck capitalism. There’s no fixing this shit, there’s only saving the human race from this cancer.
In my experience, everybody wants to work, always have and always will, they just don’t want to work like that, or at least not for those wages. Either demand less from me, or make it worth my while. It’s some pretty simple mathematics even a CEO can figure out if they try.
People will even work without pay, if there is something they personally enjoy doing or find worthwhile. It’s called hobbies and volunteering. Make it make sense, and people will work. It’s what we do.
Have these soul-sucking corporations that are supposedly struggling to find affordable workers considered being less soul-sucking? Is that an option we can put on the table, maybe? Worth experimenting with? Just a thought.
Make it make sense, be accessible, and not centered around maximization of any facet let alone profits stolen from you.
We work 1/2 our life away. Get underpayed and overcharged so some CEO can afford to buy up all the housing and charge us to live there.
The whole planet needs to rise up and abolish these monopolies, it’s very very clear the government isn’t going to do it.
“People don’t want to work anymore.” is a term that doesn’t make very much sense. Most people have never wanted to work. That’s why their ultimate goal is to retire and never work again.
For the most part, people don’t want to work. They just want the result of work. You know, compensation, different people to socialize with, a feeling of usefulness, etc. All stuff that is obviously possible to get without working.
I’m jealous of early humans. Sitting around the fire, preening each other. Maybe raise some kids. Hunt every now and then. And then 16 hours of free time to do… anything. Instead of this bullshit sit at a desk for 8 hours, commute for 2 hours. Get paid like shit. Treated like shit. Ugh. Early humans had it made.
With life expectancy of 30 or 40 years, keeping your eyes peeled to avoid being devoured by wolves…
This is the thing that really bugs me.
I love technology and can turn my hand to most things and would be happy just earning an extra £100 a week. I can usually figure out better ways to do stuff and i’m not fussed about hours. So long as I’m not killing myself to make someone else money.
But people still expect you to work miracles and whinge if you can’t do something you’ve never done before, like understanding technology means you know “everything”. Then happily spend £1,000s on bullshit subscription fees when they could’ve done it locally far cheaper!
And then people wonder why i’m no longer a people person! 😳🤦♂️
It’s impossible to get through the ai screening, at least without overpromising. Companies want junior applicants with 20 years experience.
People got a taste of another way of life over Covid and understand their daily attendance just doesn’t move the needle.
Managers need to justify their existence by watching people in the office.
Nobody wants to be a SLAVE any more. These Sociopathic Oligarch Pigs, and their insipid minions, have intimidated American workers for generations, taking more and more and more, and returning less and less and less. Today, people are onto them, and more and more workers aren’t being intimidated any more.
It’s the simple Law of Supply & Demand. They’re not supplying enough to entice workers to meet their demands. Pay enough, and people will work. Don’t pay enough, and they won’t, it’s as simple as that.
“I do it and if I do it it must be good because I wouldn’t let myself get taken advantage of so shut up and suck it up!”
Every time I read “no one wants to work” I think “everywhere is hiring because millions of people died from covid, you fucking goofballs”
But then, nowhere is actually hiring because it would eat into the company’s profits.
Before I got my current job, I applied to Taco Bell (which I’m overqualified for), and they gave me the runaround or straight-up ignored me when I would call and ask about my application. One time when I talked to the manager, she literally told me that they weren’t hiring even though everything said they were (posters in the windows, ads on their site, etc). Like if fucking Taco Bell won’t hire someone, then I feel like the job market is in a pretty bad state.
Relevant video from How Business Worked. (on YouTube)
TLDW: No one wants to work anymore is a running theme throughout the history of pro-business periodicals. Businesses are lon accustomed to leaning on contrived desperation to fill the ranks of their overworked, underpaid, arduous job positions in toxic work conditions. Any time there is an alternative, and workers bial from an industry for positions that are slightly better, some editorialist has to write an opinion piece that no one wants to work anymore.
Of note is the Great Resignation of 2021, in which furloughed workers took upa hobby during the COVID-19 lockdown, and some were able to monetize their product. Others still recognized their prior job was to unhealthy to return to. For a short while, bottom-rung positions had to compete to fill their ranks, and workforces got a brief taste of class consciousness. The owner class is still sore about it in October 2026.
A big part of this is a result of many people not thinking that god wants you to shut the fuck up and do what you’re told your whole life so you get to go to the super cool place when you die.
Realizing you have only one life to live and they want you to spend the best years being a cog in a machine that hates you and wants to keep you down makes you really not want to work for them.
This is why they propagandized the Internet so hard with religion, all these manfluencers and right wing grifters always need to include religion in some way (bonus points for Christianity), because that makes you so much easier to enslave into working yourself to death for nothing.
Well when it’s literally work or die, you can’t blame people for feeling they’ve been dealt a shit one.

This post instantly made me think of this list. Thanks for beating me to posting it!
If “no one wants to work anymore” that says more about the employer making the claim than it does about the people finding other work. Should be obvious.
