You read a press release that had responses from him, and not her. She really really doesn’t like her dad, but for publicity reasons they remain publicly amicable as much as possible. Have you spent time with them? I have. She absolutely hasn’t forgiven her dad.

His paychecks rely on pretending he’s always waffling and seeking out more information to get to the bottom of this crazy thing, whatever the newest concern is. It’s almost certainly a mixture of things you’re seeing - some mental health issues occasionally, some is lifelong and normal, some is just when aging you don’t care as much who sees you doing what in your younger days might have seemed embarrassing, in your old age you also have stored a lot more information and context and talking through them helps organize thoughts a little better. There’s more reasons, but you can see there’s a mixture of reasons why it’s occurring, and each time you see it it’s probably a differently weighted mixture of all these things. My wife has always talked to herself to work things out as she’s planning, also announcing what she’s doing in the next few moments or hours to herself, she also complains about whatever is wrong out loud no matter what it is, but most notably she does this FAR more often when she’s stressed.

Because the top ai companies want to be able to write the legislation to their advantage to stifle competition, grandfather in bad shit they’ve been doing, to avoid payouts, and to ensure no startups can do what they did. Boom, the big few have a strangle hold and their economy has a chance at not collapsing, or at least they have a better shot at controlling it than if there’s more competition and someone else writing regulations.

I don’t know your home life in detail at length, but you clearly don’t sound like you feel supported and I’m sorry you’re experiencing that. It’s perfectly fine for you to seek out friends and mentors that DO make you feel heard, seen, supported, understood, important, etc. - also know that you’ll eventually start your own life and those around you throughout childhood and your 20s will one by one all go away, for the most part, in one way or another. For the better or worse. Just appreciate and foster the good you experience from them while it’s here, and if you can try to ignore or work around the harmful or less helpful stuff. It’s not worth wasting your valuable youth and life in general on people who have abusive tendencies or who even just don’t add value to your life. That’s not to say everyone should benefit you personally, that’s how narcissists and bpd individuals think and behave, that also is problematic, but you can definitely work to cut out people who make your life harder, that’s not only fair, it’s necessary if you are to grow and be healthy as possible later in life.
