People remember the actions of a country, not of a leader
How does the world view America now that the Dems are in control of congress? Or are they waiting for the DIC to be thrown out?

Keep it up for a few decades and then we’ll talk

First I’d like to thank you for voting for the right choice of the two sides that you can choose from. Well done.
Then… I’d like to continue shaming USA for having such a close election. It might be the most clear election in recent history, but it should still not be this close. There obviously is a very large number of people in USA who are still dangerous idiots.
Putting a mark correctly on a ballot is just not going to cut it. I need to see action taken to redeem the many years of doing wrong.
I will continue boycotting products from USA until the day they no longer put children and other innocent people in concentration camps and until they come up to speed on at least attempting to save the climate from the obscene overconsumption and destruction that their idiotic lifestyle causes.
I hope to see a democratic president at the next election and I hope the democrats will finally get the power and clarity to start collaboration with the rest of the world.
Finally I would like to thank the republicans for showing the world and the population of USA that american exceptionalism does in fact not work.

I get the impression that a lot of Americans think that Trump merely ruffled some feathers on the international scene, and that a charm offensive will set things right once he’s gone.
From the outside, we watched you elect Trump twice, and have no reason to believe that the GOP won’t finish what he started. We’ve seen that Americans need to be pushed to the absolute brink before leaning into civic duty and voting. That’s fine and well, except for the fact that they’re a superpower, and the rest of the planet can suffer mightily, while Americans put in suboptimal effort into holding their government accountable.
Until proven otherwise, the United States is always one election cycle away of picking up right where the Trump regime left off.
The above is the undercurrent of my thoughts when getting into the profound fuckover inflicted on my country, while the entirety of the GOP went along with it gleefully.
CultLeader4Hire@lemmy.world 22 hours ago
The GOP barely exists now, because of Trump. This used to be a soft power game, lots of behind the scene back room deals. Obama even said corruption under Trump was better than before him because it was public, and in my opinion being don’t by incompetent idiots where before it was private and being done by very smart and very ruthless men. All of the real GOP has been slowly pushed out since the tea party came to power, if Europe was serious they’d be pointing to the tea party not Trump but that’s neither here nor there. Now it’s just a bunch of obviously stupid obviously incapable corporate puppets clearly unable to keep up the illusion that keeps the money faucets running. The GOP died and what’s left is eating its self. The real issue here is how obviously weak our left wing is, it doesn’t matter if our Conservative Party implodes if our “liberal” party can’t constitute something meaningful and long lasting. We need money out of politics now or the right will rise from the ashes cloaked in back room deals and run by ruthless competent men again.

I would say that Trump exists BECAUSE of the GOP.
Reagan existed BECAUSE of the GOP.
W Bush existed BECAUSE of the GOP. We are at the apex of the Republican utopia, purchased by the rich, for the rich, where anything goes IF you are rich and the managed dolts keep cheering it on.
This is a minor disruption for the ruling elite. Nothing is going to change behind the scenes because really nothing has changed.
StupidBrotherInLaw@lemmy.world 13 hours ago
Same as last year and all the decades before it. Inconsistent, untrustworthy, and overwhelmingly self serving.
T156@lemmy.world 14 hours ago
It’s a bit early, isn’t it? Their election’s only just been.

Trump released the floodgates for conservatism and bigoted views. Trump gave my politicians, as a Canadian, an excuse to act against all social and environmental welfare in the name of this fucking ridiculous trade war. The democrats aren’t going to do shit to reverse the damage that’s been done in my country.
While I’m happy that people might suffer less in the US (I won’t hold my breath), the apathy, complacency, and outright hatred that created this situation has spread like a fucking virus and I will not forgive for that.

Sorry, I searched, what is DIC?
LwL@lemmy.world 6 hours ago
Dick in chief probably or something like that. In any case a derogatory way of referring to trump.
Kintarian@lemmy.world 6 hours ago
Wow. I would have been right. I was thinking Dickhead in Charge.
lepinkainen@lemmy.world 1 day ago
America has a systemic issue, they were handed the tools to start fixing it. Abolishing the electoral college should be doable now for example. Also lying to congressional committees should carry a penalty.
I’ll see after the next presidential election if they’re worth forgiving.
Eat_Your_Paisley@lemmy.world 1 day ago
We have spent years demeaning and undermining our allies, you don’t just get that trust back because of one day of voting
yukichigai@kbin.earth 16 hours ago
We're a schizophrenic in a period of lucidity. That doesn't mean you should trust us around the sharp objects.
fraksken@infosec.pub 15 hours ago
Nothing changed. Talk again in 2,5y and see if you keep it up.
dan1101@lemmy.world 8 hours ago
Yes we are working on it, but Americans need to constantly tell their reps what they want and VOTE in future elections. Or the pendulum will just swing back to the right again in 2-4 years.
anothermember@feddit.uk 21 hours ago
I still wouldn’t trust them, glad to see the Trumpists fail but I feel like Trump is more of a symptom.
DudeImMacGyver@kbin.earth 21 hours ago
American here: He is.
Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca 8 hours ago
None of it matters if Schumer and Jefferies keep leadership
None of it matters if the Democrats don’t make meaningful change.
None of it matters if people change their minds in 2 years and go right back to red.
It will take a lot longer than 1 week for the world to warm up to America again.
TheJesusaurus@piefed.ca 22 hours ago
It’s been 3 minutes, what are you even talking about
slazer2au@lemmy.world 1 day ago
No difference. It doesn’t matter who you have in charge of one part of your gov they all answer to the same money masters.
The same fascist laws will be passed and none will be repealed.
BooBees@fedinsfw.app 1 day ago
The dnc leadership, the neo-liberals, are definitely slaves to the same masters, but you absolutely can’t earnestly say with evidence that both parties pass the same fascist policies. Pretending or claiming they are the same after the Trump presidencies shows immediately the claimant is either ignorant and just parrots divisive rhetoric they read on edgy social media outlets, or they’re actively pushing destructive narratives to divide what has been shown to be a very cohesive movement when it needed to be. Both parties do not appoint the same quality Supreme Court justices, they don’t pass the same types of laws, the presidents don’t behave the same or treat people the same. Are there problems with both? Absolutely, big ones. But they are not the same, that’s obvious to anyone with two brain cells these days.
slazer2au@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Because how may laws were repealed when the “blue” team were in charge last time?
Surely not signing away a strike by rail workers, maintaining ice funding put in place by previous congresses.
ikidd@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 hours ago
We’ll talk in a few decades. Until then, don’t call is, we’ll call you.
Buffalox@lemmy.world 23 hours ago
I won’t lie, there’s a sigh of relief for me personally.
Trump will be a lame duck now, so the messes he can make will be fewer.
But I’m not sure I trust the American people quite yet. They still elected Trump twice.
As a European, I also don’t think we can return to business as usual, because USA is still an unreliable partner.
Even a new relatively good president in the next presidential election will not change that.Nixon, Reagan, Bush, Bush Jr. 2 times, and now Trump 2 times, paints a pretty horrible picture of American politics.
And even Obama was a war criminal, even though he was better than average, and very liked in Europe. He was not the humanitarian he painted himself as in his speeches. He was still all about American exceptionalism. So I think we will have to wait about 12 years to know if USA is on a better path or not. Until then extreme caution is recommended.
glimse@lemmy.world 7 hours ago
Hey small selection of fediverse users, what is the opinion of the entire world on this vague question
Zwuzelmaus@feddit.org 1 day ago
“in control”? LMAO.
Buffalox@lemmy.world 22 hours ago
In control like not touching the steering wheel much, they could if they would but they won’t.
Best thing is less extremism which is great, worst thing is nothing really changes. They are happy keeping the defunct democracy where they share power with the Republicans, and both sides work mainly for Wall Street and the 1%.
Luckily there are more DSA people among Democrats now, so some things may improve slightly. But they do not have the power to make real changes, at least not yet.Patnou@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Sorry. Perceived Control

Let’s at least wait until Russ Vought let’s them take the oath.
JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 22 hours ago
I don’t imagine it’ll change for a while yet.
GreenBeard@lemmy.ca 22 hours ago
I can’t speak for the whole of Canada, let alone the world, but as far as I’m concerned as long as one monstrous Republican shill still draws breath and sits in Congress, it will never be safe to trust America. If it’s so easy for America to fall to fascism once, it can and will fall again until there is massive systemic reform. It will be a generation before people like me are willing to put the past behind us. You are still engaged in illegal wars, holding foreign heads of state hostage, keeping refugees in internment camps and every masked ice agent still walks freely on your streets.
Talk to me when the Dems actually do something about the incalculable harm America has done to the world. Boycott, divest, and sanction, for all genocidal rogue states, America included.
EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 hours ago
As an American, I agree 100%.
