- Comment on How did old-money people of color maintain their wealth through racist times? 10 hours ago:
I mean, you are technically still benefiting from the racist systems set up by the elite even if you are working class, so you’re still technically (unwittingly) participating in it. But you can (and should) still do your best to not actively advance the system.
- Comment on When did the world change to the so called hashtag? When I was younger it was only the pound sign. So hashtag Taylor Swift still reads in my mind pound Taylor Swift? 1 week ago:
Ampersand is such a fun word
- Comment on Sunglasses suggestions 1 week ago:
Oh wow. I have a pair of ray bans that I picked up from my old bar’s lost and found after they sat for a few months. They have a crack on one of the lenses but I can’t see it when I wear them and nobody has ever noticed it. I didn’t realize they’re supposed to be that indestructible, but I guess I have had them for probably 10 years and have never been terribly careful with them.
- Comment on can i still consider myself to be a valid asexual? 2 weeks ago:
Yes you are valid. There is a microlabel that you may relate to, if you’re looking for it:
Reciprosexuals don’t feel sexual attraction until they know someone is attracted to them first. This can create a dynamic where attraction follows mutual interest rather than leading it, different from most other orientations.
But ace is ace is ace is ace. If you identify as being on the ace spectrum, you are valid. If you change your mind later, you were (and are) still valid. You do you boo.
- Comment on What are the most confusing false friends from your language to another that are spelt exactly the same? 2 weeks ago:
I’m going to spoiler tag this because it’s a slur but I’ve always found this one the most comical ::: spoiler spoiler puto ::: seco. In Tagalog = type of cookies In Spanish = dry (male) whore
- Comment on I worry that reading through Marxist books would be boring. Are there any fun and exciting ways to study without losing focus or getting bored quickly? 2 weeks ago:
I listen to audiobooks while doing something mindless like cross stitching, a mindless game, or chores. It keeps my brain from drifting or going into autopilot.
It might also help to find podcasts or commentary that breaks down the books, but also read the books before or after. Those types of breakdowns will usually connect the theory with current examples, which helps reinforce the learning.
- Comment on How would you actually tax the ultra wealthy? 3 weeks ago:
Idk how it is in the US but in Canada, they already have all our numbers. Really wouldn’t be hard to enforce except many billionaires wealth doesn’t come from their income.
- Comment on Lets say the Dems found a canindate with a criminal history and backed him or her who would it be or you like to be? Taking a page from Republican playbook. 3 weeks ago:
Civil disobedience maybe? Standing up for what you believe in isn’t always legal, especially under a shitty dictator.
- Comment on Has anyone tried making a free software, federated, advertising system? 3 weeks ago:
Opt in ads actually sound like a decent idea. The key being opt in so that if I cant afford a service but still like them, I could choose an “free” ad tier as a way to throw them some support, with the website itself still being actually free and ad-free. I doubt that advertisers would be into that though.
- Comment on What is likely to happen when/if trump dies? 4 weeks ago:
It’d probably be best if Pete Thiel just died also. That would be pretty cool.
- Comment on If you found out your cousin was a billionaire (non-famous) and the CEO of a Fortune 500 company, how would you react? Would you be mad he didn’t tell you? 4 weeks ago:
Being a billionaire usually involves murder in some indirect or direct way.
- Comment on With regards to cutlery, do you prefer a spoon or a fork for eating cake? 5 weeks ago:
I don’t have a preference, but the rest of my family has very strong preferences. My mom was convinced for the longest time that I was eating with the “wrong” one (I can’t remember what the “right” one is for her), so she’d always get me the “wrong” one, which is also what my sister likes. I just went along because I genuinely don’t care. Then my mom got very upset one day when I was using the “right” one, cause she was insistent that I always liked the other one. Nah, I just like cake.
- Comment on What's the point of specifically Americans identifying with other cultures if people born there will just make fun of them for it? 1 month ago:
So I’m not American but I do identify as Mexican-Canadian. I am an immigrant so for me that is a very important distinction.
In my perspective though, I wouldn’t ever want to make fun of someone for identifying as whatever. However, there is something about the cultural aspect of it that bothers me. If you are many generations in and have, for all intents and purposes, lost your connection with the hyphenated part of your culture, and don’t have any intent to learn with or contect with that culture other than by name, it does feel a bit preformative. If someone is actively reconnecting with their culture and trying to learn/understand more about their heritage, then it’s fine IMO, otherwise it seems disrespectful/appropriative. You can just as easily say “my ancestry is _____”, without claiming it as your culture.
- Comment on How do you feel about Trump's State of the Union address, and do you think people should study and read socialist theory as soon as they unlearn anticommunist propaganda? 1 month ago:
Haven’t seen it, not from the US, but people should definitely be reading socialist theory and finding local socialist/leftist organizations to work and learn with.
- Comment on Is it normal to be mildly exhausted after talk therapy? 2 months ago:
Yep, after therapy is usually a 1-2 hr cry followed by a 2-3 hr nap. Either that or I feel fantastic and lighter and super productive. There is no inbetween.
- Comment on Does it happen when the law arrest a drug kingpin or whatever and they off the cops something like 10mil a piece to let him/her go? Has anyone ever actually taken it? Or is movie trope? 2 months ago:
If you’re asking if criminals can/do own cops, yes, it happens. Look at the current state of the US or certain areas in Mexico. I only mention these two countries because I don’t know enough about other countries to make direct statements, but I am certain it happens. But it’s not like at a low level cop, it’s more likely the actual sheriffs or DAs or people in power. Those that have the power to let the criminals go.
In terms of low level cops taking bribes in general, and again I only mention Mexico from experience, but it is very common. Common enough that there’s a name for it (mordida), and that they’ll threaten regular folks who have maybe minor infractions to get some cash. (acab and all)

- Comment on Nova Launcher unashamedly inserts malware ads into your home screen now. 2 months ago:
Hey, me too! I tried a couple of other ones I saw here like lawnchair and Niagara but I think Hyperion is the closest so far. I miss the side slide drawer, I hate scrolling down, but other than that its pretty close.
I had nova for so long too, I hate this shit.
- Comment on Are there any quick ways I can study, read and process socialist/communist theory? 2 months ago:
If you want a very quick and extremely easy to read overview that covers the basic concepts, I highly recommend “it’s not you, it’s capitalism” by Malaika Jabali.
It discusses theory in a more modern way and is set up as beginner reading but gives a lot of jumping off points for further reading. It is very US-centric.
- Comment on I CAN'T go outside without permission - is there any way I can help fight for a better world from the comfort of my bedroom? 3 months ago:
I know plenty of local groups that appreciate volunteer support that doesn’t require leaving your house. The hard part is finding them.
You could search on social media or community/city sites, reach out to organizations that you align with and see if they need any administrative support or anything you can do from home. A lot of people need help managing emails for their orgs for example, or proof reading documents. If you believe in any local politicians, you can see if they’re doing phone banks, etc.
Once you find and start working with groups where you feel like you’re making a positive impact in the world, the optimism follows.
- Comment on What's it going to take to truly stop the US? 3 months ago:
Organize to educate and unite people on a class front. It’s not about left or right, it’s up or down.
Mamdani won support from Trump voters by listening and running on a class campaign. People just want to eat.
- Comment on What's it going to take to truly stop the US? 3 months ago:
I think a workers revolution could do the trick. Get yourselves organized down there and get some head’s rolling.
- Comment on Should leftists who are anti-authoritarian use the term "comrade"? 3 months ago:
You’re not wrong though. I’ve definitely had pretty left leaning (not overtly socialist) friends see the word “comrade” and immediately assume communism. I don’t like the word personally but I’m learning to get used to it as I find more socialist circles irl. It’s hard to separate it from the memes.

A lot of the time autistic people will just tell you the truth and not hide it between the dumb bullshit “niceties” or whatever. I don’t think I’m autistic but I sure AF prefer direct communication to having to read minds or have a crystal clear understanding of all the intricasies of a culture.

- Comment on should I go back to my old job now that several people, some of them more knowledgeable than me have told me they don't understand my decision to quit it? 4 months ago:
Essentially what everyone else in this thread has said already but mental health > money/career prestige IMO.
In my line of work I constantly get told I’m underutilized and people always tell me I should be x or y. The thing is x and y do not align with my morals and I know I would be miserable in those jobs. I know I’d be very good at them and I understand people think they’re giving me a compliment, but I have always just wanted to have a job where I could pay my bills (which I can right now) and not have my career consume my life (which I do right now). If I went into one of the other types of jobs, the likelihood that my work/life balance would be skewed is high, or I’d be put into a position in my work where I’m enacting things that I am not comfortable with. I made my decision for myself, and if I want to “waste” my skills, that’s my fucking choice and they need to leave me tf alone.
Anyway, all that to say, fuck those guys and fuck the capitalistic hierarchial bullshit that states that your job defines your worth. You do you.
- Comment on What's going on with Quentin Tarantino? 4 months ago:
If it’s a sexual thing that would normally require consent (like any other fetish), and Tarantino is using his power as director to persuade women actors to show their feet (e.g. Margaret Qualley), then yes, absolutely it is hurting someone and he is using his power to appease his fetish, which is gross. The fetish itself is not gross, idgaf if someone’s into feet, but it’s not okay to force others into your fetish.
- Comment on Whats a good and proper alternative google message thats clean but better with privacy? - for texting 4 months ago:
Im not sure about the ethics of this company, which is Australian based, but I’ve been using Textra for probably 10 years now. It does base off the base messenger app, so messages are still put through google but I’m not sure that any apps can avoid that.
Otherwise though it’s clean and customizable. Pretty basic features like blocking, group messaging, reactions all work. The thing I like best is you can compose a message and reply directly from the notification bar. I think it’s something like $3 to remove ads forever, I paid forever ago and haven’t had any issues transferring through phones.
- Comment on Is there a word for when someone is not capable of, or doesn't try to understand verbal communication in a language, they are fluent in similar to functionally illiterate but for speech? 4 months ago:
I would still use illiterate in that case, and would argue that is the correct term at least according to Merriam Webster:
a : violating approved patterns of speaking or writing b : showing or marked by a lack of familiarity with language and literature
Or even just at its most basic:
having little or no education
