My 375 lb brother is going to get a month of GLP 1's, is there side effects to it? I heard it's not like speed or anything but your not suppose to have an energy drink on it for some reason.

That is a question your brother needs to ask their doctor.

Warm him that he shouldn’t get too far from a toilet for the first few weeks, and don’t trust any farts.

I had the opposite effect. 2 or 3 days between poops.

Speaking from my own experience, I started tirzepatide back in August.

My starting weight was 260lbs, I’m currently 220.

The biggest change for me was the elimination of food noise. My hunger pangs were INSANE. I actually have to force myself to eat nowadays, sometimes I forget.

I had some heavy nausea a couple times with some vomiting, but only when my stomach was empty.

I lost about 10-15lbs in the first few weeks but that slowed down to about 1-2lbs lost per week.

The entire first month I was on a half dose, after 1 month I began to titrate to my next dosage.

This. Not having the urge to snack all the time has been life changing.

      Side Effects

The only one I’ve had is occasional constipation. Dolcolax takes care of it no problem.

I can’t tell if I’m constipated or genuinely not eating enough to keep up with my usual “schedule”. Probably a bit of both

Downright miraculous. My only other reference point was an article written by a child of a heavy family and parents where the mom got supermodel type results and pressured the Dad to get it but unfortunately Dad died. Then she turned the writers bro on to the same meds

My wife says everything tastes like metal now. That’s a known rare side effect. You also can go into kidney failure if you aren’t supervised by a doctor and have the right preexisting conditions. It’s dangerous to lose a lot of weight fast, which is why they ramp you up slowly and monitor you professionally. A month isn’t a long time. I think I read you only lose like 3 percent in the first few months or something with the first gen of peptides. The newest ones shed more over time but they all take time.

Theres also the risk of your gut slowly down to a halt and destroying your ability to process food. But that’s a rare occurrence. I’m sure there’s others, I just am not an expert or doctor.

Metal taste? I would get my liver and kidneys checked.

She’s under professional care. “Ozempic tongue” is a known symptom, it’s thought to be a result of several things, the drugs reduce saliva, which changes how taste is perceived, it can increase or worsen existing acid reflux problems, an issue she’s always had, along with minor nutritional and mineral changes that are also known to affect taste. No abdominal pain, no vomiting, no tongue or mouth issues otherwise, no bad panels.

If it is set for a limited time, don’t do it.

It will suppress hunger for that time, allowing fat cells to drain, and once you end taking it, those empty fat cells scream “feed me” like you never experienced before.

If you have an iron will and support, you might be able to deal with it, but most overweight people are overweight because they lack this level of food discipline in the first place.

You have to taper the dose up because the gastrointestinal side effects can be hard. Nausea, constipation and heart burn for me, but everyone is different. Im also on the highest dose for diabetes, I don’t know if I’m different from somebody taking it for weight loss. My husband is on the same dose for weight loss and his experience is similar. I recommend asking for zolfran for the nausea. I’ve never heard anything about restricting energy drinks but always listen to your doctor about stuff like that.

I did tirzepatide. Like others have said, the food noise went away and I lost about 2.5lbs a week. Mild constipation and having a drink didn’t give me the same “hit” of pleasure. Make sure he gets enough protein and works out to prevent losing too much muscle. It definitely felt like a miracle drug but being off of it for a month, I can see why people stay on long term. The food cravings came back and I’m having to be real careful not to eat too much and gain it all back.

Tbh one month is probably useless, he will lose a few pounds and yoyo back, this might be more harmful than just staying at the same weight.

Unless you’re one of the rare unluckies that get optical nerve damage.

Dont worry, you can go blind from obesity related side effects too.

Things work different for different people, you can’t get a universal answer to this question.
Your brother should pay attention to is he experiences any side effects, and hopefully he has a good doctor that pays attention if he has any questions.
The principle of GLP 1 is quite elegant IMO, but that’s the case for most medicine that works. Doesn’t mean there can’t be minor or even serious side effect.

There is a danger of malnutrition if you overdo it, and malnutrition can lead to all sorts of conditions. But I really really hope he is being well informed by his doctor.

Best of luck to your brother. 👍
