Carla was the prom queen!

Hollywood is so pitifully lacking any shred of risk taking or creativity.
TrickDacy@lemmy.world 1 year ago
But the former wrestler The Rock is a totally versatile and talented actor tho! /s
ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 1 year ago
People write roles for him to be that way
People aren’t paying for him to be someone else
Nothing about his acting ability
HootinNHollerin@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Haha so true! I only actually liked him in that movie with marky mark where he’s a coked out body builder
RGB3x3@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Watch Poor Things if you want risk taking and creativity. It was weird in the best of ways, imo.
The Lighthouse, Barbie, Oppenheimer, Infinity Pool, Beau is Afraid, the animated Spiderverse Movies, Jordan Peele’s movies, Talk to Me, and definitely more I haven’t seen.
There’s risk taking and creativity, but they’re much harder to find because they don’t get the advertising budget of the standard boring action-adventure bull crap.
Trae@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Add “The Northman” to this list. It’s amazing and Alexander Skarsgard is fantastic.
TheRealLinga@sh.itjust.works 1 year ago
The Lighthouse was awesome. Love me some crazy Willem
Holyhandgrenade@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Dune 2 sticks out like a lighthouse in a sea of mediocrity. One of the greatest, and boldest movies I have ever seen.
CitizenKong@lemmy.world 1 year ago
You mean the third adaptation of a widely popular book? Not exactly wildly original.
Still a great movie though.
bstix@feddit.dk 1 year ago
Money does that. The more it costs - the more safe it has to be.

That’s hilarious.

What I love about The Rock: he’s only got, like, the facial expressions and I don’t even care - I know he’s gonna make it worth it to watch him anyway! :D
chicagohuman@lemm.ee 1 year ago
At least two of these are Jumanjis, right?
What are the other two?
abysmalpoptart@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I would guess the rundown and walking tall. Both are actually decent
turmacar@lemmy.world 1 year ago
One is probably the Disney River Boat movie.
Decently entertaining for what it was.
ThunderclapSasquatch@startrek.website 1 year ago
Journey to the center of the Earth and probably The Rundown one of the better movies The Rocks been in. Christopher Walkens the villain
Pulptastic@midwest.social 1 year ago
TBF that’s the only collared shirt that fits him.
bamboo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 year ago
Obviously top left is a different movie, he’s got a different shirt on. The jury’s out on the other three though…

Now I’m just imagining Dwayne Johnson asking if he can bring his own jungle jacket.
Emperor@feddit.uk 1 year ago
Jungle wardrobe full of remarkably similar outfits. Hundreds of them.
some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 1 year ago
I have never seen a movie with this guy and I plan to keep it that way.
RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 1 year ago
The Rundown is actually pretty good.
Walken is in it.
PlantDadManGuy@lemmy.world 1 year ago
You mean you’ve never seen a movie with Dwayne The Rock motherfucking Johnson. Have you seen Moana?
nomous@lemmy.world 1 year ago
He’s apparently completely shameless in promoting himself or the numerous products he shills for but he’s a very charismatic guy and his movies aren’t horrible for what they are.
some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 1 year ago
I recognize the characters in the poster. I don’t know if I saw it or not because that came out at a time when I was suffering crippling depression and I was self-medicated pretty much 24/7. Let’s say I might have seen a movie with The Rock and didn’t know it at the time.
ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 1 year ago
You should see a movie with this guy
Raxiel@lemmy.world 1 year ago
He always goes to the movies with some guy

NGL the new Jumanji movies are way better than they have any right to be.
whereisk@lemmy.world 1 year ago
A drop of water in a desert of cash-grab remakes that are significantly worse than the originals because everyone in production knows it’s a cash grab and has no creative input other than pumping another one out.
JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 1 year ago
The new Jumanji movies aren’t really a remake, more a reimagining. Really pretty much the only thing kept from the original source material (book or movie) is “jungle game called Jumanji that becomes real”.
NatakuNox@lemmy.world 1 year ago
They are good but not iconic like the OG
Rooskie91@discuss.online 1 year ago
Yeah, but I often wonder if this has more to do with the original coming out during my childhood?
Nah, it’s probably Robin Williams that makes the OG so good.
