  Every manual toaster I’ve had allows you to pull it up manually

  But somehow my current toaster needed to be electronic with buttons and an LED readout. There’s no manual release, just stick a knife in and try not to electrocute yourself. However it also has lasted far longer than any other toaster I’ve had, so ……

    My favourite is when a toaster with the lift function raises to a high point that’s lower than the high point on one without the lift.

    Or that time I went through every display toaster in the store to get the one that lifted the highest, then when I bought one and took it home the one in the box only lifted to a high point an inch lower than the display model.

  Just wanna say I own a set of medium silicone-tip Tongs which are useful in general but they would be my go-to in this situation.

  Also I recently saw toaster tongs somewhere for like $5 … They looked like wooden chopsticks but attached at one end

  But also I haven’t owned a toaster in 20y once I discovered the Toaster Oven, which fits more toast, has more granular control, and can cook other things. My current one is like 10yo I got it for $20.

  I forgot this was ever a problem actually until I saw those wooden tongs and within a week I see your post.

      Not a clamshell thing. A little oven with a door on the front that opens downward. Some of them also have air fryer capability. I’ve got a Ninja Flip and I’m quite happy with it. One nice feature about it is that you can stand it up on its back when not in use in order to save counter space. I threw away my regular-old bread toaster when I got it. And of course it’s great for pizzas or melting cheese on your toast or air frying tater tots or just using like you would an oven to roast or what have you.

    the walmart store brand sliced bread has been made so cheap now, there’s no ‘substance’. it can’t stand up in a toaster without literally “wilting”. so it will toast crooked and then not pop up because it gets stuck. i have an old toaster, probably from the 1980s. it has no safety cut-off on it… it will not shut off the heating elements when it gets stuck and can’t “pop up”. the whole thing is a fire hazard.

  If i remember correctly, this is a gimmick so you can have a romantic toast breakfast where it releases your toast at the same time (British culture, eh?). But when I heard about it, i instead honed in on THE FABULOUS resistance to getting ALL-CRUmBED-oUT, which is the problem you identify in your post
