if you wanted a single image or chart or graph to illustrate what happened and when, to get where we (the u.s.) ‘are’ today…
this is it.
- Comment on Utopia 🌈 4 days ago:
ike was the last of his kind. the civil rights acts of the 1960s broke the republican party… voter rights, desegregation… they could not (and still cannot) handle those people being equal. the ‘modern’ republican party is defined by their hatred.

flight time is actually closer to 80-90 minutes between the two cities. plus taxi time of 10-20+ minutes at each end… plus dealing with getting to and from the airport, maybe parking, and random tsa shenanigans inside.
compare that to the actual 3.5 hour acela route that starts at ~ $74, that directly connects midtown manhattan to south station or back bay.

why stop at just a ‘clip’?

where i am, this type of work would require planning and submission to the state dept of natural resources (DNR) for approval.
they would not have given it.

when i lived in the city ~ 25 years ago, the ‘upscale’ grocery chain not only had wide aisles, but they were carpeted, too… and short people like my mom (~ 5ft) could reach the top shelf.

a buck a can, and you can buy one at a time. prime eligible.
it costs more to deliver it than to buy it.

single-use codes and ‘activation’ were around and gaining traction before steam came about. but steam did help dig the hole and put the some of the nails in the coffin.

given who’s running that show these days, i wouldn’t shed a tear if they got run out of business.

the boxes here say 56g per serving, 8 per us pound. but your estimation is what i end up with when i’m prepping… 5 containers with sauce per box (pound).

for me, it’s either half a regular-size box, or a whole box. there is no other way.

had to check mine, now. i don’t plug things into it very often. right-side up.
we do have several dell mini-towers of different generations. among them we got right-side up, we got left, and we got right. only missing the upside-down.

if a popular console platform became a ‘free for all’, i don’t think its ‘protections’ would last very long under what would become a globally crowdsourced endeavour.

i’ve never had a hddvd or bd drive. there was one in a laptop we took in for recycling once. didn’t even bother pulling it.
- Comment on Is using an ssd as a cache to speed up a harddrive still a thing? 4 weeks ago:
most consumer-grade hdd that size are smr, and that’s why they have a larger on-board cache.
- Comment on Is using an ssd as a cache to speed up a harddrive still a thing? 4 weeks ago:
i have small ssd and larger hdd on debian and play a few games on it. the games are 30-50+gb ea. they stay on the hdd with the wine files (prefixes/runners). i’m not gonna move that crap around constantly just to play, and i can then use btrfs on ssd more easily. no need to worry about disabling cow on certain game directories, or making different subvols so snapshots aren’t massive.
- Comment on Why it is that in the USA for most people the default color for a casual sock is white but in most other places the default is black? 4 weeks ago:
for me, it depends on the shoes.
sneakers (including black ones when i had them), get white socks. my black shoes that aren’t sneakers get black socks.
and right now i don’t have any other shoes, or any other socks for that matter.
- Comment on End of an era? 4 weeks ago:
sony probably figures they can get away with pulling all this shit since what else ya gonna do? buy a new gaming pc? at literally double or more what they cost last summer?
- Comment on 4 weeks ago:
it’s all i have now is a ‘portable’ one with the vent running to the window. the cheap window units just don’t last, was buying a new one every couple years. very small flat, so it’s enough.
the neighbor, in a similarly-sized space has two window units in now, side by side (and inside, they’d be in the same room). it looks absolutely ridiculous from the outside.

when i’m really exasperated, and ‘damn’ or ‘shit’ or ‘fuck’ just won’t suffice, one of my go-to’s is ‘fuck a duck!’
i shall now supplement that for the most special of occasions with ‘fuck a duck until it explodes’.
5/5 stars will come again.
