Get two dishwashers and as dishes get dirty they migrate from one to the other. Never put them into or take them out of another useless non-washing cabinet again.
SeeMarkFly@lemmy.ml 3 days ago
Good idea.
Make the dish cabinet ANOTHER dishwasher.
okwhateverdude@lemmy.world 3 days ago
Exactly! It is so dumb that we’re schlepping dishes into useless cabinets.
Lemming6969@lemmy.world 2 days ago
This is a joke, but not really. For what, under $10,000 can be free of putting dishes away forever… Might literally do this with 3-4 dishwashers. Any actual downside?
okwhateverdude@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Mostly just need to figure out the plumbing and power. And running multiple at the same time might cause water pressure issues, but that would only be while they are filling/rinsing. There is also associated maintenance costs (would be spread out over multiple machines, so probably a wash (ha)).

Life is just one big, long, futile fight against the ever-increasing entropy of an inevitably doomed universe and we can only hope to carve out some sort of fleeting happiness and meaning in our short lives.
Benign@fedia.io 3 days ago
Sorry, i already had my existential crisis for today.

It’s like you’re in my head… while I’m washing more fucking dishes.

That’s why I just eat off my shirt. Already have to was it so 2 for 1. And I don’t have to worry about something falling on my shirt, it’s great peace of mind.
Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 3 days ago
This is why I also eat off of your shirt. I assume you’re going to wash it at some point anyways, so it’s not like I’m making any more work for anyone. And you should be happy to know that your work is going even farther than you realized!
ArbitraryValue@sh.itjust.works 3 days ago
Hah, a long time ago I tried to avoid building up a bunch of dirty dishes by having just one of each (one plate, one cup, one fork, etc.) but instead of washing those I ended up re-using them without washing. I know a person who is unashamed to use disposable dishes for everything and I don’t know if that’s degradation or liberation.
Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 3 days ago
Using disposable ones for everything is eco-terrorism

Depends, I think if they’re compostable it might be OK. Plastic or styrofoam would be horrific
elephantium@lemmy.world 3 days ago
I wonder what uses more water, manufacturing a paper plate or running the faucet to wash a ceramic plate?
Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 3 days ago
If ants wouldn’t eventually find my good food stores and just kept to cleaning up the crumbs, we could have a simbiotic relationship instead of me occasionally waging chemical warfare on them.
The_Hideous_Orgalorg@sh.itjust.works 3 days ago
Spotless, only if you don’t mind their urine all over your dishes. I guess what you can’t see doesn’t exist though, right? /s
ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 2 days ago
I use wooden plates and bowls. You just rinse them off and dry them with a paper towel, no temptation to throw them in a dishwasher (which I don’t have anyway).
Kolanaki@pawb.social 3 days ago
Dusting is the one that pisses me off. I don’t know how people manage to keep a big ass house dust free; it’s a long-ass chore even in my tiny apartment.
rumba@lemmy.zip 3 days ago
I have a big house, I replace the AC/Heating air filters very often and have a roomba that vacuums daily.
It’s not dust free, but you can get away with only dealing with it on a monthly basis

Dishes you may have to do, but remember, it doesn’t get any dirtier after 3 years.
HulkSmashBurgers@reddthat.com 3 days ago
Also the luandry (folding it specifically).
BeardedBlaze@lemmy.world 3 days ago
Epic waste of time.

I don’t know why I hate it but I’ll let the sink fill with dishes because I dread unloading the dishwasher…a 90 second task that seems like it take 20 minutes and requires extrenuous effort.
alternategait@lemmy.world 2 days ago
One of the best things about my marriage is that for 85% of tasks, our preferences and distastes compliment. Unloading the dishwasher and putting clothes away for me is a matter of 3-5 business days. My wife loves folding laundry and doesn’t mind putting away dishes. I have no problems loading the dishwasher or sorting dirty laundry/starting the machine. Its pretty great that it works out that way.
We both suck at planning and deciding what to make for dinner though.
Crackhappy@lemmy.world 3 days ago
I enjoy doing the dishes quite a bit, but my back doesn’t. I hate being so freaking tall.
Prior_Industry@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Have a dishwasher. I enjoy filling it up as its one of the few moments I get to catch up on podcasts.
DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 2 days ago
I simplified it. I make virtually the same two meals every day, and I use the same skillet, utencils, bowl, etc. every day. So, I just wash as I go. The sink always has the few items I use every day, but never gets full.
Here’s everything I use every day:
In the sink:
Fork
Spoon
Sharp knife
Large bowl
Small bowl (I don’t really need this, but it’s habit now)On the stove:
Skillet
TongsOn the counter:
Coffee mug
Large metal insulated tumbler for cold drinks Water glass for taking pillsSam_Bass@lemmy.world 2 days ago
yeah i used to buy paper plates all the time for that reason. they stopped making them here so now i buy more dishwasher pods

Mowing for me, especially in the middle of summer. If only the HOA fees for a townhouse (without lawns) weren’t so expensive, I would’ve chosen that instead of a SFH.
infinitesunrise@slrpnk.net 3 days ago
What happens if you don’t mow?
lyrial@anarchist.nexus 3 days ago
Usually a fine and sparking the petty ire of the kind of person that is willing to run an HOA

We must imagine the dishes happy.

Paper plates when I was younger. Didn’t have time for dishes.

If I ever get rich, I’m getting a maid and a chef. Or honestly if if android service bots become affordable, I’d get one. Idc if I’m at risk of a robot uprising…household chores are too annoying and never ending!!
gigastasio@sh.itjust.works 3 days ago
Think I’m gonna print this out and put it over my sink.

You know dishwashers exist, right? It’s like US-Americans have never heard of them.
DagwoodIII@piefed.social 3 days ago
Joan Rivers.
I hate being a housewife. Make the beds, wash the dishes, cook dinner, and do the laundry. Then six months go by and you have to do it all over again.
mrmisses@lemmy.world 3 days ago
I don’t get it. Was she known for being home once every 6 months?
snooggums@piefed.world 3 days ago
It was a joke she made for comedy.
