  Yes some people enjoy minimalism but most of the time you only see minimalism like this in real estate. The goal of minimalism in real estate is to allow you to see a blank canvas. There are two schools of thought. You can show a potential buyer what you think is a good use of the space to give them an idea of what to do with it. Or you can show them next to nothing and allow them to fill in the blanks with the furnishings and decor they would be bringing with them into the home. I much prefer the latter when looking at a space to move into. I couldn’t live in such a sterile place but I can much better visualize where all my shit is going.

  Looks like the technology of color photography got lost in the meantime. I’ve seen photos from 1850 that look much more colourful than this.

  I would like to see how the home looks after it’s bought. I think the fortunate people who can afford this house will hire an interior designer and make this blank canvas their own.

  I do not care for the stark white walls everywhere. I don’t hate the monochrome, though, so long as there is still some mid-tones to break things up a bit. In my opinion, stark white should be used minimally, like for trim, the fireplace mantle, stair steps/railing, etc. More grays on the walls, more variety in tones. And then the occasional accent piece that has a a bright saturated color to it, or a warm tone, will stand out like crazy in the space and provide a distinct feel to the room.

  I don’t love the busy repeating wallpaper patterns in the original, but overall it has a very warm comfortable esthetic to it. Neither esthetic is bad. But I think the original was more cohesive and homey than the latter.

  Does anybody remember the blue square tiled kitchen counter with 1/4” grout? I cringe at it every time I watch the movie.

    No. Call me mentally ill, but I typically don’t notice or care about any kitchen countertops, in real life, or in movies.
