- Comment on Why do russian parents insist on being treated to home cooked meals? 1 day ago:
There’s a common old world view that going to a restaurant is either for rich people with too much money or for stupid people that don’t know how to cook. So it’s more a class based frugality thing that then also is a comfort thing because doing something outside the norm would be to be in public and not be in a private space where everyone can be themselves and follow the usual family dynamics. Restaurants are also commonly a special occasion thing too but seems your folks don’t have the memo on that one. Devils advocate, they probably want you to save your money and want more quality time with you and give you the “opportunity” to host them as they have done for you and others in the past and probably they enjoyed doing so?
- Comment on The Wheel That Went to Court (or, did you know Pixar sued DMA Design - who ended up becoming Rockstar North - because they made a game about a unicycle? 3 days ago:
I had no idea. I remember hiring it from blockbuster and thinking how 3d the graphics were. I don’t think I ever saw it on the shelves in a store though but I did spend more time in blockbuster than the stores.
- Comment on Is ironing clothes significantly less common now? 4 days ago:
People used to care about appearances and wear their clothes for longer and so a level of maintenance and care was inherent that extended into clothes and their care. Fast fashion, a lack of social stigma on casual clothing, and ever increasing lack of time and increase in multitasking has lead to people ngaf.

- Comment on ‘Starfleet Academy’ Episode 5 Trailer Reveals ‘Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’ Connection 1 week ago:
Why is the trailer cut off and vertical, is this new Star Trek narrowing the vast expanse of space into a few inches?
- Comment on Should I replace my laptop battery, and are third-party batteries safe? 3 weeks ago:
I replaced a dell xps13 with a battery from ifixit two years ago and it gave it a new lease on life. Battery went from 20mins at best, to hrs of use in a day which is amazing and it’s still going strong. So yeah, replace it and reclaim your hardware and don’t give into this disposable, planned obsolescence world.
- Comment on Promoting and inciting racial hatred - the proposed new Australian offence | Constitutional Clarion 4 weeks ago:
What are facts and common sense but things that are to be debated and enforced with the rule of law, after all, people feelings are getting hurt by the truth so we have to make it less obvious otherwise these people might look bad.

- Comment on Librarians in UK increasingly asked to remove books, as influence of US pressure groups spreads 9 months ago:
The suppression of knowledge and non-conservative views by American politicians and fundamentalist groups is all lip service when it comes to banning books because information these days is no longer bound to libraries it’s on the internet.

How do people like this not get roped into countless meetings? Do workplaces exist in the digital space that actually communicate without a meeting culture?
- Comment on Has Anyone Else Noticed Jellico's Face Constantly Changes in Prodigy? 11 months ago:
I honestly can’t tell the differences and think the lighting and emotion is what makes these screenshots look different. The model and textures seem pretty much the same. There’s a chance the blendshapes used for certain poses go off model or make the textures look different as they swim or pull with the geometry but to me it looks the least like TNG Jelico when certain expressions are used which are out of character for him rather than a different face itself.
Knowing how productions run as well, usually assets are approved before they are used in any episodes. Things do change slightly for performance reasons to make a character achieve certain things needed in the script but the model designs are usually approved well in advance of animation. Changing models in production is costly and usually problematic. There’s a chance maybe that you could make changes between seasons but it would be rare as seasons are in production back to back.
- Comment on [deleted] 11 months ago:
I think the show Severance covers this topic well even though the premise is slightly different, I believe the result would be the same. You have a fork of your existence basically since the self and its experiences are local to the entity of the particular snapshot and you’d grow and diverge. How much you diverge depends on the environment and stimuli you experience.

- Comment on How Hollywood movie studios abandoned hand drawn animation at speed 1 year ago:
There’s still a lot of “2D” tv and less so film, but it’s just less manual and digitally drawn… the magic is just a little different now. Also, not all 2D is hand drawn frame by frame but there’s studios still pushing for this despite crippling unrealistic deadlines.
