- Comment on Is it the American way to complain about the US, or is it that other countries aren't worth complaining about? 1 day ago:
Every person I have ever met from has issues with their home countries.
One of my best friends was from Pakistan and when I asked him about why he left, he used to bitch that “the three things my country doesn’t have are…
L
A
W s
I work with a guy basically ran away from Sierra Leona in the late 90s with nothing but the clothes he had on. Then spent 3 months as a slave on a fishing boat until winding up in a refugee camp and then working his way to America.
This past weekend I had a conversation with a women in NYC who had to flee her home country of Peru in the early 90s because a group called Shining Path were killing everyone around her.
She spent years workin in cruise ships and the hotel/resort industrybefore seeing a classified add that told people to apply for the citizenship lottery in the US. She did and she won, she got to NYC in 98 with 600 bucks in her pocket.
So yeah we all have issues with our home countries, some significant and some trivial and contrived.
- Comment on When you send old camcorder cassettes to a digitising service, do they watch the contents? 2 days ago:
… If somethings should stay memories, why are you getting it digitized?
I am sure they watch some of it, just as a QA check, I suspect that they don’t give a shit about most of it,
- Comment on Can people tell sex of a dog just by looking at the dog? 2 days ago:
No…
- Comment on How come if my dog is sick and I take him to get put out of his misery its ok? On a human its not? How come human laws don't apply to animals? I think of our dog as family and he's one of us? 5 days ago:
Absolutely!
- Comment on How does one who doesn’t have a ‘home’ choose their team? 6 days ago:
In my experience no one picks a team, it is typically geography that does it, or it can be you saw a particular game that made you dig a team. Or someone important to you gets you into a team.
Growing up I was mostly indifferent to sports, I joined the Army was the same until I got married. My wife who spent her formative years in Texas was a huge American football fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the TCU Hornfrogs, so I was indoctrinated.
The Army stationed us in Maryland and we settled here so we became Ravens fans and she never lost her love for TCU.
Now I did love one sport growing up and that was Lacrosse. One drizzly night my friends and I were wondering around the grounds of the University of Virginia and we walked into Scott Stadium, as the gates were wide open and I watched The University of Maryland play UVA in lacrosse and it was fucking unreal watching those guys play. As I was a total townie I had to hate UVA soo…
I fell in love with the UM LAX team and have followed them for decades, as much as I could we not TV and pre-internet days.
I can count the number of ways that having Maryland as my last duty station benefitted my family and how lucky it was.

- Comment on Nier Automata 6 days ago:
So here I am much further along in the game than when I started this thread and holy shit I am done with this mess.
The game mechanics are maddening, The save, travel and death mechanics are just utter shit. The vagueness of the story and the endless wandering around just isn’t worth it.
Finally I just can’t deal with the best visual in the game thus being 2B’s rock hard ass. I love a rock hard ass a much as the next guy but good lord I cant take the upskirt views of this thing seriously…

Good lord it is way past time to allow people to Euthanize themselves.

This is why I love those things at the bottom of the door that lets you open the door with your foot.

The key to getting affordable Hockey Games tickets like all pro sporting games is timing.
Last year my wife and I wanted to see a Capitals Game (NHL team in Washington DC) so we made dinner reservations across the street from the rink and saw that the tickets were like 350 a head. So we decided to just do dinner and roll home. While getting our apps she checked the price of the tickets and they were now 120 a head. We got the tickets and missed a bit of the start of the game, but the seat were three rows from the glass and we got to see Ovechkin tie Wayne Gretzky’s scoring record.
Not being a big hockey follower we were oblivious that was even happening. So Gretsky was at the game.
The next time the Capital were playing was in New York at the islander’s rink and the tickets were going or 3500 bucks a piece.
Sooooo… plan your stadium trip around games and just be willing to be flexible about getting tickets and you should be able to do it for pretty affordable.
Also look for teams that have loosing records then tend to not sell out…
- Comment on Why did USAF pilot survival kits have nylons? 1 week ago:
Nylons if worn under the uniform do a great job of keeping you warm and prevent chaffing.
- Comment on When is the last time you had actual conversations with friends? 1 week ago:
In the summer when we see each other more at least weekly.
In the winter it is a lot more hibernating and activities of daily living so less frequently.
- Comment on California father arrested after repainting crosswalk, adding stop signs near children’s park 1 week ago:
Traffic control is a massive issue that involves numerous factors beyond “danger”.
So yes you can not have random entities making those decisions, There has to be a single governing body.
- Comment on California father arrested after repainting crosswalk, adding stop signs near children’s park 1 week ago:
I don’t have a problem with this.
Random people don’t get to decide where stop signs go and do not go.
How about if someone just decided to remove a stop sign.
- Comment on Whatever you feel about Bond Films, Do you think it wouldn't be best they just ended it with the last film. 1 week ago:
I stopped watching Bond Movies decades ago. I loved The Connery and Moore era and got bored of the character in the Dalton era and maybe did half of one of the Bosnan movie. The character has runs its course for me.

- Comment on What was the first game you ever bought ? 1 week ago:
I don’t remember the name of the title. It was probably an Atari 2600 game sometime in the 80s.
In 95 I was stationed in Germany and I know I bought a number of PC games from the post exchange but again I don’t remember any of the names.
Sometime around 98 I know I bought Doom. That’s probably the first game I bought when I remember the title.

- Comment on If someone opened a store and just sold stuff at cost, which undercuts every other competitors by alot. Would this not for the big corps to come way down on their prices? 1 week ago:
As others have said that is a business strategy that has been employed many times.
It is all about who can outlast the competition.
