Not surprised, cost of living is way up and it’s been on the market for half a decade now

I know it’s true, but it just doesn’t feel right. I even worked with PS5s for 4 years and it still doesn’t seem right
Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net 3 weeks ago
I still remember driving home with my damn PS4 to play the new God of War like it was yesterday. This time business needs to slow tf down.

besides the HCOL, producing slop games as an AAA isnt exactly attracting old or new customers.

For AI that no one asked for and at best seems to be used to make comical videos of unphysical unrealistic situations that never happened.

Cause everyone is broke and gas prices keep rising making everything in our lives more expensive.
Prox@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
And the console is like 8 years old, so anyone who wants one already has one.
Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 weeks ago
its less than 6 years old, but 5+years is a long time to not produce any GOOD GAMES.
Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 weeks ago
excluding those 2 things, the high price of the console and games itself isnt exactly a worthy thing to buy. if the games are crappy too.
TheVoiceOfRaison@thelemmy.club 3 weeks ago
Companies would be foolish to release new consoles any time in the next 3 to 5 years. None of this is going away anytime soon.
Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 weeks ago
they are hoping enough people buy into thier SLOP machines, so it woudnt matter.
meowmeow@quokk.au 3 weeks ago
It’s not going to go away….ever. They’ve decided to control every thing and never let go this time.
Dead_or_Alive@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
It seems like consoles are in a death spiral of price increases and lower sales.
I’m in a good spot financially and can afford new games and consoles on release date if I choose to. However I generally wait a few years after their release.
I haven’t bought a new release game or console for myself in over a decade and I’ve only bought one or two titles at full price for my kids in the last three years.
It just doesn’t seem worth it.
deft@lemmy.wtf 3 weeks ago
Same. Been just playing random indie games that I find on sale. Way more fun. The only game I’m even eyeballing is baldurs gate which I’ll play one day so I’m in no rush.
dantheclamman@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I am in a similar boat. I’ve usually bought consoles a few years in when prices were lower. But since they’re higher, I’m just sticking with PS4 and playing through that backlog
Regrettable_incident@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Yeah exactly. New games are often buggy and I just can’t justify the cost. If they’re interesting, I put em on my steam wishlist and get them when they’re on offer.
Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 weeks ago
people are only interested in playing on thier phones, or PAD at this point. people who have a pc might just stick with pc games.
bestbry@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Thank you! I am one of the same with you, I could buy, but I choose to wait. Everyone deserves e better prices and I think everyone should wait to buy their games. Companies get greedy fast
bluegreenpurplepink@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I recently looked into buying one, and the cost is just so prohibitive, especially when you take into account that you have to buy another controller and a stand because the stand isn’t even included. And I would also want one of those chargers. And that doesn’t even include the games that are expensive too.
I also noticed that whenever I look at games for the PS4, it says in a disclaimer that the game might not work right on the PS5. I don’t know what’s going on with that, but it doesn’t inspire confidence.
ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 3 weeks ago
It’s just a cover-their-ass disclaimer. PS4 compatibility is pretty good in general, I think only like two games don’t work.
Don’t forget that you also have to pay them $10 a month of you want the luxury of playing those expensive games online
ThomasWilliams@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
This is actually worse than the headline because the sales collapsed over Christmas.
newthrowaway20@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Well it has what, 6 exclusive games?
ltxrtquq@lemmy.ml 3 weeks ago
I wanted to make a joke about foamstars, but it’s also available for the ps4.
Instead, here’s the wikipedia article with all 23 present and future ps5 exclusive games.
vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
23 fucking games. I’m pretty sure the PS1, 2, 3, AND 4 had that many within a year of their releases. The fuck are you doing sony?
makyo@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Yeah they are so weird about supporting their stuff. Speaking as a former PS VR owner…
And don’t get me started about the very few games that really take advantage of the PS5 hardware.
Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 weeks ago
You can use it on PC! :D
yggstyle@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
mysteriousquote@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Well at least PlayStation Studio games will also be coming to PC to help sales numbers…

Screw consoles and high end computer gaming. Games started looking very good since the PS2 gen. They were just low res. Low end PC gaming is where it’s at. Recently I went back to replay emulated Viewtiful Joe, the old KOTOR games PC version, emulated god of war - they look great. On Steam bought the first Rage and it runs on a basic cheap computer now and I think it looks great. Steam Deck is PS4 level. Don’t need a PS5 and definitely won’t need a PS6. The future is gameplay not graphics
als@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 weeks ago
I’m sure that there’s some rule of economics that says once most consumers who would buy something have bought it, sales will drop.

It’s not the hardware that matters, it’s the openness of the software.
Zetta@mander.xyz 3 weeks ago
I’m positive pc sales have slumped probably just as much, it’s getting really quite expensive to build or buy a pc again.
FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I cannot get big picture mode to work for shit, it’s probably my tv but I have a bunch of steam stuff unplayed.

Sony: “I can’t hear you over the sound of me shooting myself in the foot.”
bridgeburner@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Doesn’t matter. People will buy the PS5 in masses when GTA6 releases, no matter the price.

This generation is the first time that a console that is half a decade old has continued to rise in price instead of falling.
samus12345@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
They want us to pay an assload up front and also pay more for games and to play online compared to PC? This will probably be my last console.
Dwayne_Elizondo_Mountain_Dew_Camacho@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
Paying to play online is what got me off the consoles.
100$ per year x 10 years = a pretty decent pc. (At least until recently).
The PS4 is the last console I’ll ever own.
cybervseas@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Also iirc they’re adding age verification for a bunch of online features, like chat. But not for the online store, because of course not :P
Ulrich@feddit.org 3 weeks ago
It may be your last but this is the way it’s been for decades. People keep buying them.
FatVegan@leminal.space 3 weeks ago
Please buy our 6 year old console for an increased price that we kind of forgot to make games for.
