Oof, sorry to hear about the TBI, that definitely doesn’t help with symptoms. It sounds like you recognize some of the red flags in your behavior. I don’t know you, but isn’t it possible he’s worried about you and frustrated? It’s mentally and physically exhausting caring for and getting help for loved ones (my dad has dementia, it’s tough). Just be careful with yourself. Manic states quiet the analytical centers of the brain and limit meta cognition. My friend didn’t realize how illogical and destructive he was behaving until he came down, it may be the same for you. I’ll just reiterate my urge to be honest with your doctors and seek treatment.
Just like with physics, “what goes up, must come down”. I’d hate for you to be ill prepared for that moment.

My concern with that is you may be experiencing the high of a manic episode. I’m no doctor, but when my buddy was manic it ultimately led him to doing some self-destructive things. He got himself fired from a job by calling his boss some horrible things in front of the entire staff, he’d burn his money on nonsensical get rich quick schemes, and ultimately he got nabbed for driving intoxicated and attempting to flee from the scene.
I think he’d be in a worse spot if he just told the doctors what he thought they wanted to hear rather than advocating for himself and working with them to get himself to a point where he’s on meds to guard him from burning himself out on a manic tear while also not so heavily medicated he’s a zombie. It can be done! Good luck, stranger

My buddy had a serious manic episode years ago; it was really scary and got him into some legal trouble. Along with some of his friends and family, I came down to attempt him to convince him to enter treatment. It took HOURS, and just as we were losing hope of getting through to him, a switch flipped in his head and he said “alright let’s do this!” And we got him to an inpatient treatment center.
They had him on lithium for a while. I hated it (internally, I didn’t want to fuck up his treatment) because he was so robotic and lethargic whenever we chatted. He told me how he didn’t like how it was making him feel at all. It felt like he went from one extreme to the other. That said, he was honest with his doctors and as he continued to do well, they adjusted his meds. It’s been years now. He’s back to the guy I remember from college. He’s stayed out of trouble, met and married a great women, and found a career.
Most people don’t become doctors for malicious reasons. Sure some do it for status or money, but they’re still a profession centered around helping people. They take an oath. I’d encourage you to find a doctor you can trust and follow their guidance and treatment. My friend’s doctors gave him his life back when he was on a path to destruction.

- Comment on What are your gaming highlights of 2025? 5 days ago:
Metroid Dread left such an impression on me after playing earlier this year that I bought and modded an OG GBA with a better screen. It was fun and frustrating all at once! My first time soldering since I was a teen. I proceeded to beat Metroid Fusion for the first time despite having the cartridge for probably as long as it had been since my last time soldering. I’m now playing Prime 4, although I’m not yet sure if that qualifies as a highlight.
Besides that, I also got sucked into Hades 2. I didn’t get the true ending to the first game but I did roll credits on this one! What a game. Pokémon Unbound romhack was also on the list of time sinks, but I gotta get back to beating that.

Class traitors suck. People that lean into the crab in the bucket mentality is part of the reason we’re in this mess. Sorry you dealt with that.

I agree that it’s harder to find tech that doesn’t require EULA acceptance, service subscription upsells, or other modern BS, but they’re out there. I just remember how difficult getting a lot of stuff working was 20-30 years ago.

It happened to me a decade ago before I switched careers. I did substitute teaching and once I hit 29 hours for the week they’d send me home so I wouldn’t qualify for healthcare. I was regularly told I was one of the good subs, and I loved working with the staff and kids.
I tore my rotator cuff one summer and just had to grin and bear it for a year because I had no coverage and was worried about the bills. Thanks Uncle Sam!

When did shit ever work? Only reason I’m a programmer is because I had to figure out how to get janky drivers running or how port forwarding worked before I could play vidya as a kid.

Yup. It’s pretty easy to build a case that the Israeli government is in the wrong and blatantly genocidal based on Ben-Gvir’s comments alone; I don’t need to point to tik tok videos of starving children. Liebensraum was wrong in the 1930’s and 40’s and it’s still wrong today.

Now I’m interested to hear her complete her thought because as far as I’m concerned yes the weak and powerless should be protected from overwhelming force they’re unable to stop or defend themselves from. My guess is some manner of “but Hamas”

I had so much fun with dread earlier this year. It motivated me to buy and mod an original GBA so I could finally beat the copy of Fusion I’ve had since I was a kid. That really got the ball rolling on me finishing as many Metroids as I can ahead of Prime 4. I think I’ve finished 4-5 now. Still haven’t done Super Metroid, which everyone tells me is the best, but I’m a snob and I want to get a Super Nintendo controller to play it with.

- Comment on Alberto Mielgo defends the Marathon cinematic as "not AI," denies his team touched Bungie’s plagiarized material and calls the art theft incident a genuine mistake that was "blown out of proportion" 4 weeks ago:
Yeah his framing is pretty trumpian which is gross even in the (doubtful) event he’s actually right. God forbid journalists do journalism and cover a company which has been caught stealing IP multiple times, and god forbid someone ask someone involved what their take was on the matter. Dumb.
- Comment on Alberto Mielgo defends the Marathon cinematic as "not AI," denies his team touched Bungie’s plagiarized material and calls the art theft incident a genuine mistake that was "blown out of proportion" 4 weeks ago:
“I understand that you like to stir up controversy, so here you go: the whistleblower, the truth seeker. This is my account, so here’s how I actually feel: you’re wrong and misinformed,” Mielgo replied. “No assets. As far as I know, Bungie accidentally used a texture, mostly typos and fonts, all lost in a wonderful massive creative pipeline.
“All this ass it was genuinely a mistake, blown out of proportion by people like you and hungry sphincter press. Regardless, to your pseudowistle, none of the text/fonts ever reached our team. The Bungie team is fantastic, and the work they did before us was f****ng outstanding. I loved working with them.”
It’s fuckin weird for a creative to act this dismissive towards IP theft, even if it was just one texture. How does one even accidentally steal a texture someone else made?

I don’t even think they really hid it from the console space. Their entire PS3 launch was peak hubris. They just don’t step on rakes as much as Microsoft does, and Nintendo would shoot a litter of puppies if it helped them protect their IP rights, so they look better in comparison.

Turning into? They’ve always been this way. It’s been like 20 years since they decided it was ok to install rootkits on people’s PCs to protect their IP rights.
