Back at the end of October last year, my broke ass could finally afford to build my first PC in ten years. After replacing my old i7-6700k machine, I popped in a 4TB Samsung nvme SSD in the new rig and it clicked along fine until a couple of months ago.
One day I catch a BSOD and my 25+ years of troubleshooting skills were getting nowhere. I finally noticed that the BIOS was no longer seeing the Samsung SSD so, being the impatient little turd that I am, I bought the equivalent 4 GB Western Digital drive from Best Buy and started a warranty claim on the Samsung unit with plans to throw it up on eBay.
I paid $300 for that sucker at the tail end of October 2025. MSRP is now $900.

The matinee prices range from 15 to 20% off so still a ripoff IMO. Especially when I’m more than capable of finding quality films online via other means.
They do have half price tickets on Wednesdays and Thursdays, but I’m exhausted at the end of a workday.

My wife and I 100% Super Mario Wonder high off our asses on edibles. All on a PC emulator. I’m old and patient as hell. Emulation is our friend!

Exactly! They’ll cut jobs and trim the fat until they run out of half-assed, short-term methods of increasing quarterly profits year over year. Then they’ll remember PC gamers are almost exclusively adults and some of those adults have deep pockets and no interest in the closed ecosystems that consoles provide.
Just watch.

Consoles are a joke now.
I totally abandoned consoles in 2006 right before the release of the PS3 and never looked back. My shiny new 8800 GTX was a much better use of that cash.
20 years later and my gaming backlog spans decades. All of which are perfectly playable today.

IIRC that Tegra X1 chip was launched in 2015 so the Switch launched with an obsolete SoC. It’s surprising to see how much performance they’ve been able to wring out of that old tech for nearly a decade. Color me impressed.

The Sega Game Gear. That sucker could drain six AA batteries in about three hours. Do you know how hard it was to find a place to buy AA batteries on Christmas day?
While a rechargeable battery pack fixed that problem, most of the games were garbage compared to the GameBoy. The first party games were the best, but most everything else was ‘meh.’
I never did get that TV tuner add-on either.

Meh. I had the original Starfox 64 VHS promo cassette that hyped the game and rumble pak. The game got bumped as my birthday gift request by GoldenEye 007, but I eventually bought the game in its chunky cardboard box; Rumble Pak and all.
I thoroughly enjoyed the N64 game and had more exposure to that one than the original SNES title, but I think I’ll wait for either PC emulation or I cave and buy a Switch 2. The former is more likely at the moment.
It looks nice, but it’s no “killer app.”
