Maybe it’s nostalgia bait, but I don’t care. I hate the minimalist era that we’ve been in for awhile. Give me 80s or 90s styled stuff any day.

Perfect logo for upcoming nostalgia bait remasters of their older games. Absolute garbage company.
WanderWisley@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
This 1000%

Yep MS has failed hard to gain any market share with the generation of gamers that came after millennials. So now they are trying to win back millennials and Gen X gamers who used to own an Xbox with nostalgia bait. They already did the rebranding to the old XBOX logo and the release of the limited edition green console.

It matches their overall nostalgia farming corporate strategy. Looks very retro. Maybe it can get some to buy yet another version of Skyrim.
SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 2 weeks ago
I refuse to call Skyrim retro.

I too think we‘re long past the point of calling games that released as recent as 15 years ago retro because they simply don‘t evolve in the speed they used to.
Imagine looking back at 1993 when you’re in 2008. Yeah, that’s a huge leap in technology. But look back at 2011 now and you realize that stuff doesn‘t feel nearly as ancient.
From all I know a game needs to be at least 20 years old to be considered retro these days. That‘s the most common definition you will find these days.

Why would anyone buy a game, because of a company logo?
BoosBeau@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
I can hear Shuntaro Furukawa laughing from here…
SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
Have you seen the response when MS rebranded the Xbox logo to the old version? They immediately put Asha Sharma on a pedestal. Many adult gamers that are my age (30+ year olds) are idiots who want to wallow in nostalgia.
HeartyOfGlass@piefed.social 2 weeks ago
As with everything Bethesda makes I’m sure this will be better once the modding community gets their hands on it.
Alandrus_Sun@ttrpg.network 2 weeks ago
This is something that has made me angry about post Skyrim games. They feel purposefully hollow to be filled with mods. But, mods are the garnish on your meal-not the meal. Mods won’t save a bad game. No different than putting a bit of thyme on a burnt steak will make it anymore edible.
saltesc@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
Bethesda still releases new stuff?
arudesalad@piefed.ca 2 weeks ago
Yes! A few weeks ago they releasedca statement saying they were still working on the elder scrolls 6
KoboldCoterie@pawb.social 2 weeks ago
Look how long it took Team Cherry to make Silksong, and look what we got for it. Maybe this is a sign that ES6 will be a masterpiece and won’t be a buggy mess propped up by a rampant modding community willing to put in the work to fix it all.

Pretty damn cool. Still not enthusiastic about what they put out nowadays but I like the logo
FreddiesLantern@leminal.space 2 weeks ago
So yeah Stranger things was pretty good.
Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 2 weeks ago
Unless it has ‘under new management’ on it, I don’t think anyone is going to care.

Microsoft “Hey Bethesda, we need some more distractions”
AgentSeven@lemmy.zip 2 weeks ago
Bethesda on point with a course correction already! Damn son, slow your roll. A new logo? Shit, fuck the Elder Scrolls, we got a new logo.

It’s their 1986–2000 one. logos.fandom.com/wiki/Bethesda_Softworks

After closing a dozen popups on that shitty site, I determined… eh, not really, but similar. Inspired by.
Darkenfolk@sh.itjust.works 2 weeks ago
May I bring you the good word of our lord and saviour ublock origin?
RightHandOfIkaros@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
I hope they actually release a Bethesda game so they can put this logo on it.
makeitwonderful@lemmy.today 2 weeks ago
The established date doesn’t mean much if you’ve laid off the employees that helped created your big titles.
Ilixtze@lemmy.ml 2 weeks ago
Looks like a joke logo you see for a split seconds among hundred others in the mock credits of a Gaspar Noé movie.
OldQWERTYbastard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 weeks ago
LMAO. All my old ass sees is a stolen SNES logo with neon colors added.
That whole studio is a goddamn joke. I feel sorry for the creative geniuses keeping it afloat. They deserve better. Much much better.
Aatube@piefed.social 2 weeks ago
is there any similarity at all besides “they’re both red”? SNES logo. A red sans-serif font in italics
in fact, if there is a “stolen”, then SNES is doing the stealing. here’s Bethesda’s 1986–2000 logo:
the new logo is clearly modified from this
if you checked the headline of the article, you’ll see that it’s a nod to their retro days. i’ve heard of not reading the body content of the article, but this is the first time i’ve seen someone not even read the headline.
thingsiplay@lemmy.ml 2 weeks ago
HAHAHAH… you serious?
You really think Nintendo invented this style of logo creation, with the main title in big and a bottom subtitles, and the font in Red. This logo doesn’t even look like SNES logo. Oh wait, every company stole the SNES logo, because it has letters in red in it! Oh yeah how could I forgot that. Now when I look the images side by side, I realize that I should have named the files accordingly, because I forgot which one is the original. Have a look:
Coupable@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
Old enough to remember the snes logo, but your criticism sounds like something an adolescent would say for attention.
Frenchgeek@lemmy.ml 2 weeks ago
Does it fly away at the speed of light if you tilt it?
Bonje@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
I thought that said battlefield and was excited for a 2142 remake. It’s been a long day.
cattywampas@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
That’s cool I wish they would unveil Elder Scrolls 6.
Apeman42@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
It’s been longer since that teaser than the time between Skyrim’s original release and the teaser.
acosmichippo@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
I thought for sure you were wrong but that was EIGHT years ago.
velma@sh.itjust.works 2 weeks ago
gasp
It really has been that long.
jedibob5@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
I maintain to this day that they had barely started on anything relating to the actual game when the teaser was released, and it was entirely just an attempt to save face from FO76’s disastrous launch.
acosmichippo@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
Now that they finished the logo they can get to work on it.
