- Comment on How are Americans supposed to survive the next 30 years? 9 minutes ago:
For the last 40 years through free trade we’ve had a large population join the market from countries like China, Russia, India etc.
Free trade with China has given us cheap consumer goods but at the cost of our own manufacturing which suppressed wage growth and inflation for a long time. We hit the peak of this just before Covid and we are now feeling the after affects.
China’s dramatically aging population along with geopolitical instability means that the logistics and manufacturing capacity that existed overseas for 20 years Is now failing. The US forced to reshore or nearshore (Mexico) much of its manufacturing capacity. Basically if we want to continue to have stuff we need to find somewhere else to make it besides China. This isn’t a cheap process and it won’t be as efficient as the old system.
Russia’s war with Ukraine has huge implications on resources and energy. Russia exports a lot of raw materials, fertilizer products, food, energy and aluminum. Taking them offline has affected international trade and has many many markets.
Our institutions that support labor have also withered over the last 40 years. Labor unions don’t have the sway they used too and politicians have ignored their needs for decades. Big business will not just give wage increases much like in the 20s and 30s Labor will need to grow and become more combative than it currently is to see any improvements.
In short the world order that we all grew up in is breaking down and changing. It will be at least a decade before these changes finish shaking out and we see solutions to the problems we are facing fully materialize.
- Comment on Why do the majority of women still take their partner's last name? 2 days ago:
A. Many men would not marry a woman who didn’t take their name.
B. Makes parenting more difficult in social settings by not sharing the last name of your kids. I.E. Picking up your kid at school or making medical decisions about kids and having a different last name as the child forces you to jump through a lot more hoops.
C. Women tend to grow up knowing they are going to change their last name it’s not even an afterthought. My girlfriend told me her and her friends would often talk about what their name would be if they married a guy they liked.
D. In some states it is very difficult for a man to change their last name but for women the processes is already in place.
- Comment on Why people consistently vote against their own interests to benefit the rich? 2 days ago:
I agree with all of your points but believe there is one more.
Many vote for their party because that is what their family has always done. To them it is like rooting for their Football or Baseball team. They just want the win and feed off any news stories that support that view. No matter how much of complete failure a Republican President is (G.W.B. Comes to mind) their popularity never drops below 28% - 35%.
- Comment on "Florida is a conservative Christian state" 1 week ago:
Soooo the 58% of Floridians who voted for banning anti abortion laws also want Fl to be a Christian state?
- Comment on What are the next steps for Americans to help prevent the worsening of genocide in Palestine? 1 week ago:
You could vote for the candidate least likely to Genocide. I think Kamala was her name…
No seriously, I hope Palestine gets the policies that all the Genocide Joes here voted for. You earned it for them! 🫡
- Comment on US Elections question: Bernie Sanders said that the Democrats abandoned the working class, and the working class abandoned them. How is this true? 1 week ago:
Did you happen to visit Kamala’s website during the election. She listed who she represented…. Black males, Latino Males, no mention of working class white peoples.
That is identity politics. If you wonder why white women voted for Trump, they did it for their sons who aren’t mentioned at all.
Both Kamala and Biden championed another assault weapons ban.
- Comment on US Elections question: Bernie Sanders said that the Democrats abandoned the working class, and the working class abandoned them. How is this true? 2 weeks ago:
Identity politics, gun control, immigration, lagging economic recovery for labor, inflation and a distinct lack of ability to formulate a simple message. Sank Dems with the working class.
Policies are nice but most Americans don’t have a clue and don’t research anything.
Kamala spouted a bunch of policies and no message of hope. Trump had a bunch of headline grabbing antics and one liners. Guess which one wins with most Americans.
- Comment on For my fellow Americans, when is enough enough? 2 weeks ago:
Meh, I did my part. 51% of America wants a criminal facist dictator supported by his MAGA cronies in all levels of government.
I’m just going to put my head down, make money and keep my family safe.
- Comment on Houses in my area increases 82% in just 4 years 2 weeks ago:
Work from home is the ultimate culprit.
A. People can migrate and buy in cheaper parts of the country and maintain jobs that would have required them to stay in a certain geographical area in the past.
B. Work from home has gutted the commercial real estate market. Leading investors to move into the home market. You’re going to see a lot of money flow into single family homes to rent over the next ten years.
You’re now competing against established professionals who are later on in the careers and institutional investors.

- Comment on Just for a moment 2 months ago:
I don’t think people understand that O’Brien represents the interests of his labor union and not the Democratic Party.
Going to the RNC and speaking at the convention was a shot across the bow to Democrats reminding them they need to pay attention to labor interests and not be taken for granted. Up until Biden no president in the last 40 years has done much for labor. Which is why Hilary lost in Michigan and Pennsylvania.
O’Briens speech was on point and focused on labor interests. It was a tacit reminder that Republicans won in 2016 because of Trumps populist appeal in those states and lost in 2020 because they did not have it. Trump has spent the last 4 years trying to appeal to labor on anti immigrantion, social issues, and racist dog whistles without giving them any economic promises.
I had a similar experience on the Star Trek Encounter in Las Vegas. They did an amazing job with the bridge of the Enterprise D!
I was genuinely sad when it shut down.

I played it on game pass. It was a pretty good experience until I used up all the side quests. The main quest held no interest for me. I had no interest in becoming starborn.
Trying to load the game on busy days was probably the biggest negative I can think of.
- Comment on Reddit Undeleted all my posts and comments 2 months ago:
I’ve replaced all of my Reddit comments for the past year with AI generated nonsense. It seems to have stuck. I plan on going through all of my past comments but will spread it out over time so that it’s harder to restore.
IMO the key is making a post that writes gibberish but that is good enough to suck a user in to read it for a few seconds before they realize it is BS. That kills the user experience and poisons the site.

Welcome, it’s not better.
- Comment on MrBeast displaying his real personality. 3 months ago:
There is a lot of creative editing in the video. Whenever the guy makes a negative remark the video has a second panel zooms in awkwardly on Mr. Beasts face. It’s not even consistent sometime it’s the entire face most of the time it is part of his face it emphasizing whatever facial expression he’s having and making Mr. Beast seem sinister.
IMO it’s clickbait, cringy and not very convincing. The creative editing goes out of its way to make Mr. Beast seem sinister just because he is exhibiting a normal reaction. Everyone including Mr Beast is allowed to show negative emotions or surprised reactions when someone criticizes our work or something we believe in.
Part of being an adult is taking that negative feedback and reining in that negative emotion. Then using that criticism to improve and better understand yourself or your product. But it doesn’t mean those negative emotions aren’t there.
- Comment on Why is there no sense of "camaderie" in the workplace? 3 months ago:
In my experience Boomers, Gen X and older Millennials generally want to socialize at work. They grew up in a office environment where you were constantly around your coworkers and social media was in its infancy.
Younger Millennials and GenZ mostly want to make a paycheck and go home. They generally don’t want to socialize with people outside of their circle. I sometimes think genZ is way happier at home 24/7 and don’t want human interaction. Could also be they just don’t have the money for it.
- Comment on Would I get banned here for being over active? I got banned from reddit because they thought I was a bot. And don't want to repeat the same mistake here. Thank you ahead of time. 3 months ago:
Welcome brother, I was also banned from Reddit after being active on it since the great Digg exodus. For reference the post that got me banned was when I pointed out that American ADA laws guaranteeing public access have been around much longer than EU laws which is why they likely did not see as many disabled people in public places in Europe as they just can’t physically access them until the architecture catches up. Apparently that was considered bigotry in a European sub and was the final straw that got me permanently banned.
Lemmie is by and large much more liberal and left leaning than Reddit is. (at least the subs I’ve visited have been.) I haven’t seen the retaliation or pre-emptive bans for just joining or posting in a particular sub that I saw over the last few years on Reddit though. I also haven’t seen any bans due to frequency or activity.
Much like Reddit if you make a comment that goes against a subs meta or against the beliefs of the moderators they will find some way to ban you from their sub. I’d say many subs in Lemmie are less encouraging of discourse that does not fit within their beliefs.
So even if you probably can’t get a site wide Lemmie ban you can still be banned from individual subs.
Post and comment away, just keep in mind if your content does not fit the subs meta they will probably find a way to ban you from the sub.
- Comment on Halo on Paramount+ has been canceled after only two seasons 4 months ago:
I agree it was fine, a little slow at times but not a bad show. I enjoyed watching it, it’s too bad they cancelled it just as it was getting good.
Halo at its core is a first person shooter with a lot of lore built up around it. The show did a good job with respecting the lore and world building.

Your mental gymnastics deserve a gold medal for that performance.

Well, New York is American soil, if Terrorists were hiding under a building there I hope our government can surgically remove them. I then hope that our government would glass whatever shit hole those terrorists came from.
Tel Aviv is Israelis territory, it’s response is up to their leadership and the will of populace.
- Comment on The lamest countries 10 months ago:
But the current chapter does. Gaza would look a lot different today if the October 7th attack had not happened.
Shit it would look like a fucking paradise if they had taken one of the many two state solution deals they were offered.

Wow that is some amazing mental gymnastics there. I sure do hope you don’t strain yourself with all those logical fallacies you are jumping through.

lol Serbians don’t need a majority. If there were two Serbs and a cup living in a given city, Serbia would claim it and ethically cleanse the shit out of it.

- Comment on This person's rejection reason 11 months ago:
It’s silly but it addresses a real problem. You don’t see job ads stating no women, Blacks, Mexicans, people with disabilities, etc. (This was very much a thing in the not too distant past, just look at job ads in the USA from the 60s)
Age was added later because employers prefer hiring younger people as they can often pay them significantly less and get more work out of them because of their inexperience.
There are examples of employers firing all of their older workers to save money (though many of these companies turned out as terrible for the long term health of the company).
Older people tend to vote more and the state doesn’t want to pay unemployment to people so hence the law was amended.
This is just another example of age and deviousness triumphing over youth and enthusiasm.

Wow you certainly cited some excellent sources there. Based on your well educated and certainly unbiased expertise I’m sure printing unlimited money by the government won’t have negative consequences. There can’t be any examples of real world bad monetary policy that has nothing to do with US partisan politics…

Ohh sorry I must have had to clear my throat there.

But on a more serious note, money does practically grow on trees when viewed from the government’s perspective.
:Looks at record inflation of the past two years: No, I’m pretty sure there is a cost that will eventually be paid.
