Little guy would of made it if he had just shot his web straight up and attached himself to the sun.
A metaphor for capitalism?

I feel bad for the spider, but I have admit the web in the glass is really cool looking, like a piece of art. I’d probably preserve that if I could (minus the spider corpse)
Catoblepas@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 days ago
The spider corpse is an important piece of the art! It adds a memento mori aspect to what is otherwise just a cool place a web was spun.
floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 day ago
It’s also the author of it, so it would definitely belong
distantsounds@lemmy.world 2 days ago
The spider gives context and removing it would diminish everything
whostosay@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Yeah that could be a horse web for all we know.
atlien51@lemm.ee 2 days ago
I hate spiders and even I feel bad abt this shit. It’s just a cruel scenario
milicent_bystandr@lemm.ee 1 day ago
Last time this was posted, the some answers said it’s actually likely a nest (funnel web spider or something?) and the “dead spider” shed skin.
So the metaphor for capitalism is… The Rich carry on eating the produce of the Poor, while the socialists look on and think the system is dying? Haha! Checkmate Poors!

My stepdad worked hard all his life. He managed to buy his own plane and fly it all around. To some flying up in a plane might seem somewhat insignificant, but most people never get to fly at all.
We’ve only got so much time to get a plane.
DarkCloud@lemmy.world 2 days ago
You can get kit planes. I heard the Dyke Delta is the holygrail.

Pretty sure what we already do to collect spider silk on an industrial scale is worse than this.
captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works 1 day ago
Do we collect spider silk on an industrial scale?
I remember seeing something about genetically modifying goats such that they would produce the proteins in spider silk in their milk, so the milk could be processed and then silk could be mechanically spun. This is a half-remembered TV documentary from years and years ago, so.
Anomalocaris@lemm.ee 1 day ago
ok, hear he out, we make the cup so it’s tall enough for them to make silk to escape, but short enough so it’s only a mild inconvenience for them. less labour than current system and easier in the spiders.
problem is we don’t get a long single thread but just bundles of nets which can be spun into threads.
andros_rex@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Y’all know that spiders can climb right?
And that spiders often make webs that look like this? Famously, funnel spiders?
MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 1 day ago
[deleted]Madison420@lemmy.world 1 day ago
You say that but many have similar structures that use the same force to climb and cling.
DarkCloud@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Sine wave formation might have been more efficient and hence resulted in survival, but I’m uncertain as to whether the web structure and anchor points would have allowed for it.
CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 2 days ago
What in the middle management is this? Gonna tell a spider how to spin their web… ppfffttt lol

Can’t they just climb the glass?
musubibreakfast@lemm.ee 1 day ago
I’m sure the spider tried
soran0allsmark@reddthat.com 1 day ago
Lol no.
SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca 2 days ago
Or a metaphor for socialism… lacking the economic freedom to buy more silk, the spider couldn’t escape an artificially designed system run by a central authority that didn’t predict this scenario, because it isn’t feasible for a central authority to predict every scenario.
Or maybe, given that the looks like the glass is outside on the ground so maybe the spider was put into the glass on purpose to make the photo? So the spider was sent to a gulag to die because it wasn’t ideologically pure enough.
Or maybe it’s just a spider in a glass and you can stretch a metaphor in any direction you want.

My fella here wasting their time and energy defending the system that’s currently destroying earth and supporting the genocide of Palestinians
SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca 1 day ago
If people here were saying racist shit about Palestinians I’d be arguing with them. I don’t see that happen on this site, but I see there’s a bit of an antisemitism problem and that’s something someone needs to address. When people get into a bubble like this and are constantly doing stochastic terrorism talk, some fucked up things can happen if no one pipes in to make people consider they might be going off the rails a little bit.
So I’m taking a break from countering racism and stochastic terrorism on this site to poke some fun at some leftists in a shitpost thread.
Is this really the best forum to discuss genocide? If you’re looking at my comment history, maybe just reply to one of the comments where that’s already being discussed. Well if you can get in a reply before my comments get deleted, that is. Not sure if that happens in an attempt the censor other points of views or to sane-wash out the crazy replies I get when I merely offer the point of view that most people in the world hold about a subject. Either way, at least some people that see them are reminded that not everyone in the world believes the crazy things that get posted here. You obviously saw some of my comments before they got deleted, so that’s a win.
I’ve had multiple people thank me for doing this in my DMs, so there’s dozens of us! And it saddens me the intimidation tactics that get used to squelch discussion of certain subjects on this site.
So, anyway stochastic terrorism is bad, antisemitism is bad, and socialism has failed many times in history. Lets see if I get banned from the “shitpost” community for saying these outrageous things, LOL.

Your problem is that you didn’t present just a critique of Socialism, you veered into praising Capitalism unnecessarily (which means a new system was introduced uncritically).
The metaphor for socialism would be that the one party controls the means of production, and that under true socialism there’d be a pile of dead spiders (heros and villains of the revolutionary period), and the web (which defines this epoch’s age of technology) would escape the glass.
Possibly the most educated spider from the party’s politburo would be able to step out of the glass… They would then climb into the next glass and try to foment a revolution there.
But all of the above is still dealing in an archiac propagandists ghost of 1950s Socialism (which wasn’t even like that to begin with)… And many parts of it are in fact a better critique of modern Capitalism with its industrial powerhouses forming monopolies and cartels interoperating with governments, and the culture industry to press people into further wealth disparity and corrupt democracy until it simulates a one party set of state Capitalist values.
