âWe arenât really being persecuted, but imagine we were? Wow, that feels bad. That bad feeling justifies anything we want to do.â
The conservative thought process in a nutshell.
âI hate the smell of coffee. Letâs go to a coffee shop and demand it smell good TO MEâ is the one I grew up with
fascist*
conservative are christian democrats (in the US a close equivalent would be Rockefeller Reps, Ă la Charlie Baker. Those are the real Reps.
a conservative is interested in keeping things as is, stable, favouring democracy (even if imperfect).
a fascist opposes both; they above all break down labour rights and align with the reactionary, irresponsible bourgeoise, rather than the proletariat whose labour they employ. Fascism favours militarism to enforce their will, rather than building bridges through dialogue.
The dems in America are a lot closer to what conservatism classically is than republicans have been in over 50 years.
ike was the last of his kind. the civil rights acts of the 1960s broke the republican party⌠voter rights, desegregation⌠they could not (and still cannot) handle those people being equal. the âmodernâ republican party is defined by their hatred.
a conservative is interested in keeping things as is, stable, favouring democracy (even if imperfect).
This has never been the case. People calling themselves conservatives have always been all about tearing down existing systems in order to magically replace them with a fever dream about how it was âin the good old daysâ. Conservatism has always been a destructive and dangerous ideology.
Regressive militaristic enforcement of hierarchy and in/out groups is absolutely âconservatismâ at its core.
Some âconservativesâ may not agree with every single point but the ideology remains the same.
Nah, man. Conservatives are the basic irritation of an old man like myself not wanting to change, because itâs fine. I finally understand the world and then these transes come along and want me to change the way I talk? Canât they just pick a lane? Booo!
(I try not to listen to that urge in me, btw, and as a result I have accepted my bisexual self, got a cool trans-masc boyfriend at age 46 after a 20 year drought, had some seriously good sex, and gained a lot of fun new ideas. I understand conservatism, and I can respect it in some contexts, but I prefer progress.)
Reactionaries, though, they are spoiled brats. Instead of just refusing to change, they actively try to destroy what they fear. They try to control other people because they cannot accept that anyone else has rights. They are sociopaths, and they control the USA.
They call themselves conservatives, and they hide amomgst conservatives, but they are different.
Calling myself rich wonât make me rich.
Yeah, people always confuse reactionaries with conservatives. They are different philosophies entirely.
American conservatives are reactionaries
Love how this myth keeps being repeated
Just fork tesseract and replace the blocklist /s
Why the â\sâ? That sounds like a most optimal solution!
Just remove half the blocklist, and instead of having a pure bland expetience, youâll instead get extremism pure.
Whatâs there not to like?
Most criticism of tesseract was not necessarily the existence of the blocklist, but the lying about it to users and admins.
So this unironically, but be open about it so people know what theyâre opting into.
Or just think back to the mid-90s Internet, when conservatives still had 12:00 blinking on their VCRs.
Thatâs not entirely fair. I know a dude who was a tech for the US army and is conservative. Dipshit told me he voted for Trump 4 times in 2016, which is the last time we spoke. It was an, uh, interesting conversation
If he voted for Trump heâs not conservative, and neither is MAGA.
He told you four times, or he voted four times?
Should be fairly hard to vote four times. If you send in absentee ballots and then go vote, well, you only get one voter id, so the previous attempt is just overwritten.
Maybe he fooled himself?
If they censor your opponents, then they censor you next.
Or if you are AdmiralPatrick you censor the word censor
I love how billionaires act like theyâre arguing on behalf of the people they fleece, like theyâre all in it together. Itâs like a game of Lemmings. The ruling class leading them with rage bait and lies, and then walks them off a cliff when theyâre done with them.
Working class people that think theyâre in the big money club is as sad as it gets.
Also most of them defend billionaires fiercely. Its scary how easily so many people can be brainwashed with propaganda.
Yep. Well put.
Reminds also of the tactic of tacking totalitarianwards/tyrannywards, where identification on economics, or inconsequential cultural identifications, are played against each other, each professing to be the freedom side, and proclaiming the other the authoritarian side, while really the two sides both professing and proclaiming the other way, are in cahoots, and the sides they present, keep those identifying with the sides, fighting each other. Like the more libertarian left hoodwinked by the authoritarian left telling the libertarian left that the authoritarian left are just like them, the libertarian left, and that all the right are the authoritarians to fear. And the same on the other side, the authoritarian right telling the more libertarian right that the authoritarian right are just like them, the libertarian right, and that [classic McâCarthian redscare con here:] the left are all the authoritarians to fear. And then to hide this, placations are loudly given, each side, ((at least) professing to) return a freedom, âpersonalâ or âeconomicâ, depending on which side, while simultaneously quietly taking away two freedoms of the other ilk. The other side repeats this. Cons their side that they care, and are the strongman saviour you need to protect you against the other sideâs rampant scary authoritarianism. Back and forth it goes, tacking to totalitarianism and tyranny, for so long as we keep falling for it, keep identifying with these 1-bit binary groujpthink identifications of âleftâ and ârightâ with ignorance of the con. I say, lets stop falling for it.
âYou and I are not in the big club.â â George Carlin.
The internet has become so much less angry in the last few days since I rigorously block everyone arguing in bad faith, reich-wingers and lemmy.ml
Or that Garfield comic where on one side you got the grey Garfield toxically arguing a lot with people on Shitter, versus Garfield simply blocking.
I mean I read a technical manual last night to fall asleep
Honestly it would just be leftist cannibalism. Lefties telling other lefties they arenât left enough.
Hey you, reading this message, you arenât left enough. Be more left.
I turned 270° to the left, is this right?
Thats right but you need to turn 90° more.
Meanwhile right wing internet would be distributing khakis and trudgens.
I disagree people need to understand each other. On the other hand toxic right wing misinformation? That can go fuck itself and its creators lol.
On the other hand toxic right wing misinformation? That can go fuck itself
Thatâs what they said, âright wing contentâ.
The only measure by which âwe need police to protect people from criminalsâ is less toxic than âwe need to stop migration to preserve the white raceâ is how palatable it is to centrists. Both promote causing harm to millions of people while pretending to be necessary for the safety of you and me, tricking people into supporting egregious violence against vulnerable minorities.
Iâm not your mom, I canât tell you how to resolve your cognitive dissonance, but the boundary youâre proposing is merely a popularity contest.
This is the kind of toxic content I was referring to yes. People can claim to be leftist and generate toxic misinformation, people can also be conservative but go on about their lives while respecting. You may not be my mom but you definitely need one.
Any toxic information.
100% agreed, only said conservative because of the topic but toxic left misinformation should also go fuck itself and ita creator
How would I know who Iâm supposed to hate?
Anyone different than yourself, duh. Conservatism isnât difficult.
You would think
Just hate humans and worship cats.
Easy. Youâd just carry on hating anyone who points out your book already insists you âlove the sinner, hate the sinâ. World view intact. Just anyone who tries to offer you logic.
Imagine US Education where the lunatic writings of Dennis Prager arenât part of the curriculum.
Or where itâs held up as an example of âwhat not to doâ
itâd be bad, really bad.
Online Censorship is always really bad and thisâll just lead to more issues and echo chambers
Except theyâre he censorship party, not their opponents, so the only way this could be true is if they stop pushing it.
Censorship of unwanted/unpopular opinions is a bipartisan issue.
Imagine a world where the people were smart enough to not put conservative content out into the world
On the one hand, sure. On the other hand, this is exactly what AdmiralPatrick had in his mind.
No, AdmiralPatrick imagined a world where no one hears anyone say genocide is bad or trans people exist.
Like all centrists.
Then lets just censor thought terminating cliche, which makes up most of the conservative thought, and also stop billionaires funding chuds.
I know thatâs a joke, and itâs funny⌠but Iâm concerned for those for whom this reads straight, take it as a good idea, and donât realise theyâre opposaming, oblivious to the non-censoring possibilities and paradigms, not realising, as TORF said âIf they censor your opponents, then they censor you nextâ, the broader precedent setâŚ
Oh for more good ideas to help dispell the bad ideas. ⌠Maybe clearing the chemical lobotomy from the food supply would help. If we can accomplish that, past the crooks with their incentives to keep that in place⌠⌠then maybe thereâd be less of the compounding stupid that threatens us all.
Censorship yay!
UmmmâŚ. isnât that called a dictatorship?
While I agree that I donât like conservative content. Censorship is still censorship.
Hmmm, reminds me of something⌠oh, yeah!
Imagine all the people living life in peace
Whoâs in charge of what conservative is? Whoâs the decider?
(the only right answer is Vermin Supreme)
Whyâs that guy trying to get us to manifest his absence from our view?
On some level, he knows what he does is wrong, but cannot help himself. âŚAnd so, this is his cry for help?
Poor fool, apparently knows no other tool but the hammer, only questions which direction to swing it, and didnât question even that very much at all. Unthinkable to him, to cease wielding that hammer, and start to learn about other tools. ⌠Then maybe theyâd be out of the redscare psyopâs conflation; out of the authoritarian opposame; out of the arrogant naive-realist presumption; out of the agnotologically abused co-perpetration that he points his finger at, oblivious to the three pointing back.
Pesky adhominous strawmen division-sowing groupthink-calcifying asset-agents.
Iâd rather imagine a world without neither censorship diktats nor vapid inane poorly-veiled reverse-psychology gambits to induce groupthink. Yâknow, free speech, and no terrorism. ⌠Terrorism, yâknow, the application of terror for political gain. Like alluding to some scary slippery slope dystopian scenario to get people to conform to your political agenda. No matter how ineptly done, ~ or even, not inept, and works exactly as intended, strengthening the in-groupâs shared dogma and fear of the other, and keeping the other, the out-group, contemptuous of the sins of the in-group, which only furthers the division, eases the conquer, playing group vs group⌠while the crooks continue to run a muck. This is no time for falling for pitchforks vs torches. No time for falling for the divisive scams from such scammers and agents.
âconservative contentâ.
Conserve what?
Is a question more can benefit from asking any time anyone tries to induce you to their groupthink with this enticing pitcherplant of a Rorschach test.
Then maybe fewer would fall for it.

Just stay completely in the walls of any Lemmy or piefed instance.
That is exactly why im here. You dont have to sell me Lemmy twice.
Sure, if you want to pass Physics I while only studying from a heavy and voluminous book.
I think you are misinterpreting the post above. This is not a user with a âstop censoring meâ avatar making a post about censoring others.
âPrager Uâ is a very conservative organization, they are not advocating for censoring conservatives.
The Simpsons image was not part of the original post, and is a reference to a scene where a lawyer said âimagine a world without lawyersâ while shuddering in disgust and horror at the utopia he imagines.

I see. Thanks for making things clear. I will delete my comment

Legitimately the Internet was a better place before conservatives figured out how to use it.
Quetzalcutlass@lemmy.world â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
They got in early. I remember researching the Holocaust for a school assignment in the late nineties/early aughts and the top result was a conspiracy theorist/Holocaust denial screed. An openly racist one with slurs and epithets throughout, no less. The early internet was wild.
There was also Stormfront, a white supremacist forum with hundreds of thousands of members where racists openly detailed their plans to infiltrate police precincts and federal agencies by having fellow members already employed there vouch for them, with the goal of creating a network of supporters throughout the entire law enforcement apparatus to protect them. Looking at the news, itâs not hard to imagine they succeeded.
Noel_Skum@sh.itjust.works â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Fucking Stormfront. What an absolute abomination. I havenât thought about them for yearsâŚ
Sometime probably around the turn of the century I was emailed a link to like a Q & A or advice section on the site.
This nazi had to learn a second language and wanted to know where people drew the line as acceptable foreign languages.
Some said English only⌠but that Danish, German, Polish, Russian etc were kinda acceptable. Spanish, Italian, French etc was shaky ground and best avoided. Anything outside of Europe you might as well kill yourself before we do. That was the gist of the answers.
It was hilarious, terrifying and pitiful in equal measuresâŚ

âLegitimately the Internet was a better place before âŚâ it became more like TV and a corporate shopping mall, and less like a Library and a village fair.
djsoren19@lemmy.blahaj.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
soâŚnever?
just because they werenât old boomers doesnât mean the nazi 14 yr olds were somehow not conservatives. If you could find any of the old longbeards from early unix forums and asked them their opinions on minorities Iâm sure youâd get fun responses. They were always here, the difference is that they didnât feel legitimized.
chunes@lemmy.world â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Before nerds made it easy enough for conservatives and normies to use it. We did this.

I joined a fb group in 2004 protesting the decision to open it to people without an edu address. Fortunately fuckerberg made the right decision and nothing bad has happened since then.
