  Earth will wash its hands of us, and life will continue. Even if we do cause extreme damage to the planet, and much of life is wiped out somehow, there’s still plenty of time left for another advanced civilization to eventually arise and possibly be much more successful than we’ve been.

  However, I do wonder if the competitive nature of life on Earth, and possibly everywhere in this universe, makes inevitable that every “intelligent” species eventually wipes itself out.
