I dont utilize any of the patcher tools myself anymore because I deleted my Google account long ago, so I only keep up for friends who aren’t as down the rabbit hole as I am privacy wise.
I can however share the reddit thread that I originally saw when people started pushing Morphe over Revanced

The tl;dr is a bunch of the developers got upset that the maintainer acted like a shitty manager more than a FOSS project lead dev.

The protocol can be edited by clients, for example I believe FluffyChat and Commet both support user profiles, even though its not an official part of the spec yet.
