CEO of Spotify invested in an ai military company.
OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 4 days ago
Dude every tech bro is fucking evil. This is getting crazy. Can we not trust anyone but our own moms anymore?!
REDACTED@infosec.pub 4 days ago
Invested in a drone company that’s providing drones to Ukraine, which, as usual, triggered Russia into a disinfo wave and now half of the world is mad without realizing that it’s not some Israeli company, but for EU sovereignity (ie. No longer relying on American drones).
It was part of series B funding and spotify joined other EU companies: helsing.ai/…/helsing-raises-eur600m-to-invest-in-…
If you now hate spotify because EU wants to produce it’s own drones that are being (already) supplied to Ukraine, then congratulations, you’re an useful fool to Russia.

So, what are the best spotify alternatives that actually pay the artists? Does that exist? The only semi-viable alternative I know is Deezer. Tidal apparently is for audiophiles
TerHu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 days ago
im using tidal because it supposedly pays more than spotify, deezer and apple music. (also because of privacy concerns with spotify) i’m not an audiophile and tidal works a little different to spotify, but it’s good.
just know that there’s no hand-off or remote controlling of different sessions (i.e. spotify plays through your browser and you control it from your phone), unless devices are specifically built for that (like speakers with tidal support)
PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 4 days ago
does tidal have a good library? I listen to some weird shit lol

Bandcamp, especially on (the now rare) bandcamp fridays

I’m ditched Spotify for Qobuz and am having a good time so far.
BackgrndNoize@lemmy.world 4 days ago
I just use YT music in brave browser on my iPhone cause it blocks all Ads and I had a app that did that for Android revanced I think, works for now, someday I’d prefer to setup my own self hosted music server and then only use YT music, Spotify etc to discover new songs
Jumi@lemmy.world 5 days ago
I switched to Qobuz who are from France

Spotify is Nordic, which is arguibly more moral place than western Europe.
Jumi@lemmy.world 4 days ago
Even if that’s true its CEO is not supporting the military industrial complex. And I will not begin to argue which part of Europe is more “moral” when we undoubtedly have bigger fish to fry.

I just swapped to Qobuz this month. So far it is pretty decent!
pineapplelover@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 days ago
I use adblockers on Spotify and made a cool playlist on here. A bit lazy unless I pay for tidal or qobuz. I’m broke so I’m not paying for the latter
garbagebagel@lemmy.world 4 days ago
Oh I’m about to cancel my spotify but was worried about some of the music I like which I couldn’t transfer over to qobuz. Didn’t even think that an ad block would work on it… Does it work with something like Rethink for the app or are you talking browser only?
pineapplelover@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 days ago
On my desktop I use the spotify spotx bash script. On mobile I used to use revanced spotify but that has been broken
Turret3857@infosec.pub 5 days ago

InnerTune
InnerTune (fork)
Kreate
Bloomee
Harmony
Yattee (The only option I’m aware of for iOS)
Self Hosted solutions:
Finamp for Jellyfin (iOS)
Fintunes for Jellyfin (iOS)
YouAmp for Subsonic
DSub2000 for Subsonic

I so so so want to but if you listen to ANY amount of underground music there are a lot of artists that ONLY drop music on Spotify. I’ve tested tidal and qobuz and I’d lose like 60%~ of my library
Turret3857@infosec.pub 5 days ago
They don’t release on YouTube Music at all?
If they don’t, thats odd. It’d be very limiting for reach to only release on one platform, and if they’re that underground you could always ask them to make their music purchasable on sites like Bandcamp. Doesn’t mean they will but it doesn’t hurt either.
There’s also other ways to obtain music, but don’t do anything illegal :p
PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 5 days ago
Spotube got hit with a cease and desist. Do you maybe know anything else to move over my existing playlists?
Turret3857@infosec.pub 5 days ago
SpotDL will download youtube music equivalents to Spotify tracks in 128kbps or 256kbps if you have YT premium
Spotify Import for Jellyfin will import your Spotify playlists to Jellyfin (provided the songs already exist in your Jellyfin server)
Lidarr allows you to import Spotify playlists. (I do not endorse piracy, use Lidarr in ways legal to your local laws and regulations ;p )
TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works 5 days ago
I appreciate the list. I’m on my families subscription and (due to some personal issues) we can’t cancel for the next ~6 months, so we’re gonna weigh the pros/cons then
abbadon420@sh.itjust.works 5 days ago
Or, have one subscribtion that you share with your entire company.
Turret3857@infosec.pub 5 days ago
They’ll easily catch on and ban the account that has 8 different IP addresses that are on at the same time, and that’s still financially supporting them. None of the software Ive shared financially supports the abusive aspects of the industry in any meaningful way.
