I feel the same about all media. I’m doing my part to hasten the collapse of capitalism by keeping my spending to an absolute minimum, pirating everything, buying second hand where possible, and eating as much at home as I can.

And here I am not realizing that food counts as media.

I remember that day of the “general strike” where the simple idea was to not spend any money on big corps. I got confused, because to me, that’s a 365-day-a-year lifestyle thing for me.
Maybe I’m lucky that I don’t have lifestyle needs like pet food, baby supplies, etc, and markets have been cornered there. But there’s plenty of forms of entertainment and leisure without giving it to Disney or Amazon and the like.

Being a pirate is what makes you free. All hail communism.

Be careful with what you are watching in the next few years. Hollywood gave itself a diverse face in the last few years. Put in black actors, had some strong women in lead roles, had some gay characters and so on. I’m afraid that we will see some movies pushing hart right MAGA topics in the next time. Movies that are pushing for traditional gender roles, have gay people as evil masterminds, immigrants as criminals and so on. We already saw that with all those movies with evil arab guys in the bush era. Hollywood was taken over by Trump’s tech billionaires, you will see this turn it in the media you are watching. That will influence you and maybe you shouldn’t watch such stuff

“Rambo’s right, these lesbian Democrat voters will stop at nothing.”INDIANA JONES
“Understood, Batman. We have to protect our billionaires’ way of life. And we’ve got might on our side. I know Hunt, McClane, and Reacher are in, and all the way from across the pond, so is Bond. But do we have Bourne and Skywalker?”CYBERDYNE SYSTEMS MODEL 101

This is true, but the bigger threat I see is the mainstream news media and social media, as the Ellisom empire expands it continues to encompass more and more news channels, it already contains CBS and TikTok, with the upcoming merger it’ll also include CNN. Other Trump supporters include Jeff Bezos who owns the Washington Post and Elon Musk who owns Twitter.

Is there any type of post that doesn’t belong in a shitposting community? Because I know some people have very strong opinions about what shitposting is around here. And personally, I don’t think this fits
sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 6 hours ago
Nah let the votes decide. Block people who consistently post what you don’t want to see. You can make your own experience and everyone gets the one they want
mfed1122@discuss.tchncs.de 6 hours ago
Its tricky because I don’t dislike this post, but I do feel like posts should be in the appropriate comms. And I’m just legitimately unclear on what belongs here. I guess the idea is just whatever people post?
CapuccinoCoretto@lemmy.world 5 hours ago
This is way too wholesome to be a shitpost.

I would go to the high seas but I don’t know where to start. I used to visit the high seas often about 10 years ago. But now. Shrugs shoulders.

Quick start guide:
- VPN, my recommendation: mullvadVPN. (You need this, because copyright trolls look for easy targets, such as people having their real IP exposed. You don’t want to be that, they won’t fight with the VPNs hosting partner, then with the VPN company, then with your ISP, just to get to you, they only extort people they can reach directly.)
- Download qBittorrent (FOSS) and install ALL search plugins
- Activate your VPN and search with the integrated search function, it will look through all sites you installed plugins for and present them to you directly in the programme.
- Enjoy a collection of TV and movies you actually own.
traxex@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 hours ago
There is a setting to bind qbittorrent to your vpn. PLEASE use this as using it without accidentally could get you in trouble. The binding is a last resort safety mechanism to prevent it from even working if the vpn is off.
StealthLizardDrop@piefed.social 7 hours ago
I keep hearing conflicting info on mullvard and sailing, do they block port forwarding? Which may affect seeding to some places? Like private… sailing seas? I am a bit unsure how this works, but if I am sailing for linux distros, I want to be able to seed them.
Rekorse@sh.itjust.works 8 hours ago
Main thing is to k ow if your ISP cares or not. Mine does, so I use a vpn. You can set qbittorrent to only use the vpn so if it gets turned off then just nothing will download.
You can do that on windows just downloading something like qbittorrent and mullvad vpn. You can also set them up in docker containers if you are familiar with that. It allows you to have the vpn only affect qbittorrent rather than your whole PC.
I do all of this on linux as well but had originally set it up on windows.

qbittorrent, use the search tab

Additionally to the other answers, take a look at stremio with Torrentio. A few of my friends use it (I’m using a private tracker), it’s basically as convenient as using Netflix AFAICS.
Sylvartas@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 hours ago
Note that a VPN might be required to avoid getting fined in some countries as stremio is basically simply torrenting videos sequentially and simultaneously playing them, and torrent is often monitored by authorities
miniinstance@lemmy.today 6 hours ago
The best way to start is to visit fmhy just search it on the web. Learn and be a pirate sail the seas and keep information to yourself and not spread out your gold to the public like a true pirate
SethTaylor@lemmy.world 10 hours ago
Or you could ignore those services and watch indie stuff instead and pay for those directly
There’s art out there that’s worth buying. You don’t have to pirate anything
invalensname@piefed.social 3 hours ago
This is the ideal and one of the reasons I watched Youtube in the first place. I’ve found amazing stuff over time, like Veritasium, but I miss oldschool scripted media. Especially calmer stuff with fewer cuts. So much modern cinema is too fast.
If anyone has any recommendations for indies, I’d love to hear them.
hogmomma@lemmy.world 9 hours ago
watch indie stuff instead
Indie ≠ comparable. Indie ≠ good. I’m not going to watch something BECAUSE it’s indie. Am I misunderstanding?

If only the masses had the will to fight their own subjugation.
bearboiblake@pawb.social 6 hours ago
Ah, back to spreading nihilism again, I see. I’ll share the same thing I said last time:
I understand how you feel, but we actually do have the power to change our world. We need to first recognize that something needs to be done, build a popular consensus, network and build connections with like-minded people, and start a real movement for change.
Electoralism has not solved our problems in the past, and it won’t do so in the future. At best, it is harm prevention, and at worst, it’s a distraction from more effective efforts. I encourage people to vote for the candidates they feel best, but to be aware that it’s not a real, long term solution. It’s always just the best of two terrible candidates, both of whom ultimately serve the ruling class.
The problems we have did not start and will not end with Trump, they are in the fundamental roots of our society, and the road to change our society is a long and difficult one, but it is a journey we have to undertake. We are going to have to act if we want to live in a better world. Simply giving in to nihlism is not an option.
minorkeys@lemmy.world 5 hours ago
You have no actual plan other than a plea to “try”. Funny that you criticize the nihilist’s lack of trying but not the general population’s. Even though both result in the same inaction. Atleast the nihilist usually once cared, unlike the masses who can’t be bothered to ever care. Good luck though. Keep pleading with the wall of indifference, laziness and self-interest that keeps people from ever taking group action.

It goes without saying that boycotts by themselves are an ineffective system of effecting change, and that everyone who wants to fight against fascism must take further action.
I encourage everyone to get involved in local activist efforts, join or form a union, join the IWW, read through an anarchist FAQ, get involved in protests, vote for the most progressive candidates possible including in primaries, and use every possible tool and avenue of resistance at your disposal, both legal and illegal.
Your link is broken btw

Speaking of which, if anyone has an invite to spare for a good private tracker, please DM me. Private tracker I used since highschool has finally lost the plot.
mrbutterscotch@feddit.org 11 hours ago
How much do private trackers improve the experience? My friend that pirates says he hasn’t had any problems with public ones yet.
fuck_u_spez_in_particular@lemmy.world 7 hours ago
I mean downloads basically limited by your bandwidth, usually the highest quality (like blu-ray rip 4k, almost no compression) etc.
But if you don’t have issues, well probably don’t bother.
Another thing if you aren’t using a VPN (which you probably should), they’re safer, as well… they’re private.
GaMEChld@lemmy.world 10 hours ago
I’m mainly using it to fill a small niche gap in my existing pirate fleet.
Passerby6497@lemmy.world 11 hours ago
If you’re willing to spend a bit of money to pirate, just go with usenet. I was a private tracker guy for years, but I got sick of keeping up ratio when I mainly wanted shit that wasn’t super in demand. Have been so much happier since I made the move, and my downloads finish much faster than they ever did before.
bebabalula@feddit.dk 11 hours ago
Got a link to a “pirate on Usenet for dummies”?
GaMEChld@lemmy.world 11 hours ago
Right on brother, I’m already on Usenet, mainly looking for a private tracker as a next to last resort.
