for my entirely too long life, Rs have been “States rights”, one of the few issues where I agree with them.

I must have missed the news. What is Trump doing now regarding the 2nd amendment?
Last I heard it was after the Alex Pretti killing. He was beaten without ever drawing his legally obtained firearm he had in the small of his back. During the beating, ICE found the firearm, disarmed him, and then proceeded to execute him in the street. After the killing, a bunch of room temperature IQ Republicans said he shouldn’t have brought his legally obtained (gonna keep stressing that) firearm to a “peaceful protest.”
If there’s anything else along to their apparent effort of pulling back on the 2nd Amendment, well, I haven’t been informed.

It was never about the 2^nd amendment. It was all about restricting gun ownership for “the ideologically wrong people”.
Just look at how they came down on the Black Panthers in the 60s, and how “stand your ground” laws work in wildly disproportionate ways for only white cis people.
It’s a racist and bigoted strategy that has absolutely nothing to do with “rights”, except for the selective restriction of them.
It is not even that. It is all about the money. Seriously, the 2nd amendment is a marketing ploy at this point.
There are as many guns in the US as their are people. No one is restricted from getting a gun unless they are purchasing at a gun shop.
I swear the whole racist bigot angle is also marketing to get dischenfranchised groups to buy guns at this point.

I think that for the gun industry/lobby it is all about the money, but it is about hatred, fear, and revulsion of the outgroup for the rank and file. Most businesses (even ones riddled with MAGA) would happily sell their wares to trans, browns, gays, muslims, etc. out of one side of their mouth, while decrying these groups and their rights out of the other side.

A reminder that’s exactly what Reagan did in California, with NRA support. The Black Panthers started to arm themselves and cop watch and that couldn’t be allowed clearly. California gun control really started with Reagan.
