How is this a science meme

Nearly my entire department uses it and the department below me and next to me to do STEM, would you like to tell us how to do our jobs better lol

Not even remotely close to what I was saying

I have 2 monitors + laptop and my setup isn’t even represented here (29" 16:9 and 34" 21:9)
UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 1 hour ago
These are my emotional support monitors

What’s wrong with #8? Looks like a normal trader setup to me.
My setup is off the charts, tho, as usual.
stormeuh@lemmy.world 3 hours ago
Aren’t traders supposed to be mentally ill?
ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 3 hours ago
Also, train dispatchers, power grid managers etc. Infrastructure control of any sort.

What’s gis?
fossilesque@mander.xyz 13 hours ago
Geographic Information Systems aka digital mapping
john_t@piefed.ee 59 minutes ago
I, too, gis’ed in my pants at work.
nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 13 hours ago
Kinda like SQL but in polar coordinates
Incogni@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 hours ago
The keyboard position of 3 and 13 implies that one would stare directly at the gap where the monitors meet. I hope nobody does that.
DonAntonioMagino@feddit.nl 1 hour ago
All monitors at the office I work at are in the #3 position, and everyone uses them like that. The first thing I do when I get there (there are no fixed desks, and I’m only there on Mondays) is move one screen to the left and one screen to the center. Then I use my laptop as a third screen, but pretty much only to display my todo list.
I also think it’s weird, but everyone here does it…
kureta@lemmy.ml 4 hours ago
I do it :(

7 is radiology
poinck@lemmy.world 3 hours ago
I am close to #1, but I have a 16:10 not 16:9 monitor. My laptop lid is always closed. I am a 100% one monitor person.
I am considering an ultrawide at home, but I fear that I will get problems at work if I cannot have the same there. I am not sure, if the linear window manager I am using makes sense with an ultrawide. And third issue: My existing monitor is still good and and awesome features which seem to be rare on other except gaming monitors: auto brightness and presense sensor. At work I can live without these two things, because the desk space has alsways the same brightness.
Suck_on_my_Presence@lemmy.world 13 hours ago
As a GIS tech, there’s one missing - the keyboard next to an ultrawide. Optional normal monitor to the side :P
But yes, as a former weather forecaster, the 4 in a square is insane and unfortunately it was necessary on bad weather days. At one of my locations, we also had the PC hooked up to a television running behind us and had a separate real time data monitor to the side. So… Yeah.
fossilesque@mander.xyz 13 hours ago
One of us. In my old job I ran two gaming rigs for processing on a KVM switch. GIS is all about the rig. Only need one or two screens lol.
troot@piefed.blahaj.zone 5 hours ago
I’m 5, because I’m writing and reading a lot. It makes no sense to have a horizontal screen for text.
whiskers165@hexbear.net 10 hours ago
This is my mental illness, I change, rearrange, add, and substract screens constantly in my array. It’s mostly for leaving ambient video playing in the background at my house, kinda like a little zen garden. I dream of programming all the TVs at a club.
I got five computers in the array when this pic was taken. Three 2012 MacBook Pros, one on MacOS 10.15 Catalina, one on Windows 10, and one on Mint. Down low I have two gaming PCs, a 2014 build running Fedora and a 2017 build on Ubuntu.
You can’t see my face but I’m cheesing so hard, this was one of the more ridiculous arrangements I’ve set up. I will use between three and seven screens at once on a normal day, but eight was an accomplishment lol

NorthWestWind@lemmy.world 10 hours ago
My bed is right behind this picture and I sometimes lie down and turn right to look at the main monitor. Turning left-up balances it.

I ain’t moving this has been my setup for 2 years at this point
SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 10 hours ago
Lmg, the top one is for playing music off YouTube?
NorthWestWind@lemmy.world 8 hours ago
It’s for messaging. I put Matrix and Discord over there. Chat and OBS also goes there when I stream.
So all I do is occasionally look over at it. It’s not really a problem for my neck.

Mental illness is almost all of finance. That checks out 100%.
someguy3@lemmy.world 11 hours ago
Which one is most common for finance?
Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 11 hours ago
8,11 16

When I was in college I worked a data entry job at an investment advisor firm. One of the financial planners had #8 as their setup.
spinne@sh.itjust.works 13 hours ago
Look, I’m not here to GIS anything. That’s my pinball monitor.
HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 7 hours ago
I’m none of these. I have two normal and one rotated 90 degrees for the odd legal sized document that gets scanned in. When I was doing a lot of data entry in one of my jobs, it helped.
Candera@lemmy.world 4 hours ago
What is wrong with #10?
OhStopYellingAtMe@lemmy.world 3 hours ago
Yeah #10 is how mine is set up. Except the center monitor is an extra wide curved monitor.
ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 3 hours ago
You mean which mental illness? Hard to tell. My guess is SAD.
TerHu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 hours ago
my guess is bunny ears
Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 hours ago
#13 but the laptop’s in between monitors. Does that count as mental illness?

Do you like maps?

More importantly, do you like doing the work of a fullstack developer but getting paid and treated like a barely-tier 2 support desk person?

FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 11 hours ago

umbrella@lemmy.ml 8 hours ago
id argue that laptop + screen and mousekeyboard is normal. most normies that want a sit down sorta table station get that setup.
Atropos@lemmy.world 7 hours ago
I’m none of these.
One large center monitor, a smaller 1080p to the left and right, and above the center large one for a total of four.
Perfect for being a DM.
dkppunk@piefed.social 7 hours ago
For work use I’m #13, except I remove the keyboard, put the laptop in front to use that keyboard, then center the monitors behind it.
For personal use, I’m #3
Ontimp@feddit.org 4 hours ago
Same

#7 is pretty common for radiologists
