  Acknowledged.

  But an addition: humans aren’t meant to handle the mental crush of globalization, IMO. It’s nice to know what’s going on so one can be actionable, but it also takes a severe toll after a while. I didn’t come here for any echo chamber, and I love how down to earth lemmy feels, but I also don’t visit any politics or world news subs.

  I help where I can locally and I do my best to make other people smile because we’re all on edge, but I’m not able to to stay mentally well enough to do so without shrinking down the world around me and becoming ignorant of the greater picture.

  I always play Shy Guy. He’s cute and his sounds are absolutely hilarious and never get annoying to me. And I’m also super shy, so it all works out.

  If you have any decent spatial skills, maybe look into GIS. I see positions for GIS developers constantly. More than I ever see positions for GIS Techs or Analysts.

  Also if you’re in the US, check out BLS.gov, it can help you find similar career fields or specialties that maybe you didn’t know about.

  Can attest that Short Hike and Holedown are good. I’ve had the latter on my phone for forever and still play it often.

  I’ll add an asterisk to your statements. As a woman, things don’t generally slide right in (ymmv), and usually there’s still a little bit of intentionality to get to the good parts. Of course, something with tiny girth might slide in, but generally, phallic-type objects can still take a little work.

  I’m not sure if it is boss or not, but the xenomorph in Alien: Isolation has a great AI that does some wickedly mean things.

  I didn’t make any friends in college (health issues+ I was a little older), but I did my work and asked questions. Apparently that was enough for my main professor to bend over backwards for me. He basically hand delivered two internships to me along with a personal project for credit.

  Even if you don’t know many people, gaining opportunities really still comes down to who you know and being decent to them.

  My mother literally had a gynaecologist just tell her that they’re putting her under general anesthesia for a surgery where other clinics won’t because “we don’t believe in torturing our patients”.

  Thank you to that clinic. We need so many more of those in the world.

  Gosh, absolutely. I’ll go on a nostalgia trip now and again, but there are soooo many artists doing such fantastic things nowadays.
