Just for fun, to see what the opinion of the Lemmy crowd is.
I’m planning to buy it, once it releases on PC.
I am a fan of the games though, and have been since the first one. GTA 5 had a great amount of replay value (a lot of my friends, and myself, have replayed it a few times).
If someone isn’t a fan of it, and they didn’t enjoy the story and such, then I can imagine it to be an easy pass. I’m looking forward to the madness of it lol.
I’ll buy it if/when it comes out on PC. I loved GTA 3, 4, and 5. I finished 3 and 4, never finished 5 but still love exploring and roaming the map.
I would if the game came on the disc. I’m not buying a license to play the game at Sony and Take-Twos leisure

For me, the satire was the best part of the GTA franchise. After San Andreas the quality of the writing really suffered IMHO.
I got V for free from epic, didn’t feel with me. If okay this for free only.
For me San Andreas was the best game. The mechanics were solid and the game had a whimsy to it that was completely thrown away with 4 and 5. I didn’t think the story writing was particularly good, but the characters and missions were super memorable and fun.
The last GTA I really got into was Vice City on PS2. I did get San Andreas as a gift but tbh it might still be in its shrinkwrap because WoW was around that time and since I stopped playing WoW, I’ve diversified my gaming to the point where I have a shitload of games I have yet to try across a variety of platforms. And I heard a lot of shit about V like getting griefed by cheaters that I never tried it and at this point the AAA label is more of a repulsor than attractor and I still have all those other games to try.
I hardly buy anything on release, only the occassional indie.

Maybe when the Ultimate version is <$50 on PC in a few years. That’ll give time for big bug fixes and dlc to come out. AAA games just aren’t worth getting at launch anymore.

Never played a GTA game, and I have no interest in starting.
The poll does not break down if people are not buying it because they object to some aspect of the release or they are not buying it because the game does not appeal to them. It makes it sound like there is a large boycott of the game when it could just be GTA indifferents (like me) stuffing the ballot box.
Will you buy it and which previous GTA games have you bought would probably be a better option.
If they get a physical copy some day then yes. Until then, no.
Currently at ~7% would buy one version or another on day one, about 33% would wait for a sale, ~60% dgaf
Voted yes day 1 standard edition but the reality is more I will wait a bit and see if it’s as enticing as have the other ones. So I won’t wait for a sale or anything. I used to buy consoles just for GTA games :-), not gonna do that but I might get hyped.
Right. From the spirit, its the day one answer you are looking for. Because I actually didn’t meant literally day one. It’s a totally normal and understandable approach.
No, because the only Rockstar game I have ever bought was Smuggler’s Run Warzone.

Its just curiosity and for fun, not for science or being really useful. I also enjoy the discussions that it brings, and their reasoning. So in a sense it is useful. :-) I hope…

Never really understood the appeal of it though the shitty DRM and PC ports they had didn’t help. Tried to play GTA SA(?) more than 10 years ago but the bicycle controls were so bad ona tenkeyless keyboard I couldn’t progress. Same thing with the drone controls in Vice City. GTA IV was unplayable due to securom nonsense which after I bypassed, ran into some GFWL error that I gave up on. GTAV was extremely boring for me with how slow the gameplay was. For a game called Grand Theft Auto I was expecting a lot more action. Being forced to do yoga and deliver cars was not at all enjoyable for me.
On the contrary, I found the pre-reboot Saints Row games really fun and so did Sleeping Dogs. All of those games scratches the itch that I had expected GTA to scratch and did it better than GTA did in my opinion. Maybe I’m just not the target audiemce.
Too overhyped, ridiculous price, it will melt my PC likely… nope, not interested.
If I avoid buying games with high storage requirements then I don’t need to spend much on SSDs. For large games the storage costs isn’t insignificant at this point
You are not entirely wrong, but you can always delete games which you currently not play. And redownload it later when you want to, provided your internet access is fast enough without a cap to make this strategy viable. I have enough space, but I still delete games often because their constant updates are annoying.

No but ill probably check some streams out just out of pure curiosity. I hope there will be RP that happens in this. That was by far the best thing to come out of gta5 for me.

Hmm, isn’t “Not interested” the answer you looking for then? I thought of this answer as a catch all for anyone who won’t buy.
The thing is: I am interested. I just want to wait for a week or two, hear what real people think. Magazines and YouTube reviewers cant be trusted imo. So I might buy it, but I’m not planning to buy it on the launch day.
I only have a pc so I’ll be waiting .
