Flat earth would be so cool if it was just sci-fantasy authors and not weird, return to christandom, anti-modernity types.

So, the Discworld. Yes, it is very cool.

They really do ruin everything

There’s some really amazing world building that’s been done with flat-earth art as a springboard
Can’t remember the name, but there’s one with concentric circles separated by ice walls with landmasses named after different mythologies’ deities. There’s a whole community built around writing lore for each landmass

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Only_Forward
Michael Marshall Smith does this theme, only different.

It’s the “possibly hallow” for me
starik@lemmy.zip 3 weeks ago
It would have to be, else the whole thing would be so massive, it would risk collapsing into a star. Except stars are smaller than planets in that picture, so never mind.

Why would the very center of the melted puddle also be just as cold and frozen as the edges?
ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 3 weeks ago
The Sun orbits around the center. That’s why seasons happen
Tiral@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Shhhh honey, we don’t use logic here. Just let it happen.
boogiebored@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
i love it, i’m in
onnekas@sopuli.xyz 3 weeks ago
OK, I love the big ice ball theory. However, I think the big ice ball might actually be flat. Idk would make more sense to me.
Alberat@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
but that flat ice ball is on a ball of lava
liuther9@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
And in fact this is not a lava but just a floor
BigBrownDog@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
If this is true, then why does my wife want to leave me for Devin from her work?
sundray@lemmus.org 3 weeks ago
He has a big dick.
HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Flat Devin theory. How much is a bulldozer?
TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 weeks ago
Devin knows the truth.
Leviathan@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
So you’re saying it’s a sphere…
osanna@lemmy.vg 3 weeks ago
Wait, they believe it’s a sphere of ice but not of rock?
anomnom@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
This is probably what it felt like to the first explorers trying to cross either pole.
Aqarius@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
…This is just Mistborn.
Or Disco Elysium for the multiple earths option.
lime@feddit.nu 3 weeks ago
gonna tell my children that this was the snowball earth hypothesis
mortalblade@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 weeks ago
so were just a bunch of apes duking it out on a giant disco ball essentially…

Are they progressing forward… or backward?
Rooster326@programming.dev 3 weeks ago
This is why Global Warming is such a big deal to Flat Earthers. They don’t want EarCe to collapse…
Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 3 weeks ago
Hollow earth theory was also a thing.
okwhateverdude@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I love that the sun supposedly melts a spot, but helpfully leaves the arctic ice sheet in the center.
wjrii@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I also love that this version of flat earth theory is perfectly okay with our living on the surface of a huge spherical object floating in space.
marcos@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
The sphere is so big that it will appear as flat for any purpose you can think of.
Oh, wait…
rockerface@lemmy.cafe 3 weeks ago
They’ve come around in the end, it seems
wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 3 weeks ago
So many hoops to jump through only to theorize that we are in fact on a spheroid planet…
Sualtam@lemmus.org 3 weeks ago
I guess this is mocking flat earthers. Not a real claim they make.
HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Because the sun likes cold drinks
spirinolas@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
There’s obviously a gigantic magnifying glass between the Sun an Earth!
