That friend I was talking about the other day, the one who had that breakup.

He’s completely imploded. He’s done some stuff that’s basically pushed almost all his friends away. Just crazy stuff, like stealing from friends etc

I’m taking a biiiiig step back.

It’s sad to see, but I don’t think I’m going to have much to do with him for a long while.

How does one go from a break-up to stealing?

I mean stupid drunk stuff, I get?

      source
      • Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone ⁨1⁩ ⁨year⁩ ago

He was trying to get back at her by stealing some of her stuff. Fucking moron.

I’m so sorry. That person is either some kind of psycho or is on a tragic self destructive streak.

I taught the boys to wave at busses and they do it without fail now. I think it’s time to take them for a ride on a bus

Don’t forget the trains! Some drivers will toot if kids wave, to add extra excitement

      source
      • Nath@aussie.zone ⁨1⁩ ⁨year⁩ ago

Once the driver let my kid actually toot the horn. He was our neighbor and knew us. That was 2016 and it’s a core childhood memory. The kid is still obsessed with trains.

Sometimes around Monday/Tuesday I passed a milestone of six months on my running streak. Every day since October 16, I’ve gone for a run. I’ve averaged about 6 hours a week running, or roughly 24 hours running every 4 weeks.

I wonder whether I’ll make it to a year? It would mean not getting sick for a year. Seems unlikely.

Right on. Currently my body can only handle about every second day. So my day streak is perpetually on 1.

I feel very Melburnian today. Instead of my usual cuppa tea I French pressed some coffee. I should go and line up at a register at Coles with my puffer jacket on and buy some croissants for that all round Melbourne experience.

    • tombruzzo@aussie.zone ⁨1⁩ ⁨year⁩ ago

You buy your croissants from Coles and not the expensive bakery or food store that’s mostly a cafe?

    Hypothetical situation.

You are having an extremely busy week at work. You have to bring your work home with you, to the point where you’re not having time for much else, like taking care of yourself.

You have a partner you don’t live with. You tell your partner you can’t see them for a couple of weeks because you’re too busy and having trouble coping. What do you do as the partner in this situation?

Being overseas I’m reminded once again that cafe culture and laneway art is really not unique to Melbourne and yet it’s spruiked here as tbe best thing since sliced bread.

    source
    • Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone ⁨1⁩ ⁨year⁩ ago

I always found that really kind of, I don’t know, a bit sad I guess? It’s all we have to celebrate culture wise in a way. Or I’m misreading the vibe.

      source
      • wscholermann@aussie.zone ⁨1⁩ ⁨year⁩ ago

It feels like clutching at straws for something to celebrate about the city. The truth is the city of Melbourne itself is nothing remarkable.

It’s all the things just outside it that are nicer ie Dandenong Kinglake national park Wilson’s prom great ocean road etc.

Nah there is always something going on in Melbourne. Cricket, Australia Open, Formula One, Moomba (usually), Comedy Festival, AFL, etc etc. Then there are dozens of little festivals throughout the year. Plus there are several theatres and concerts always happening.

You don’t really see it all when it’s all you’ve known. But it’s a lot.

I feel like Melbourne is at best middling amongst tourist cities. There’s not any great architecture, natural wonders like mountains or harbour, no history due to being a young city, no particular cultural vibe. It’s nice enough but it’s not a destination city. Way more interesting places to visit.

        source
    • Nath@aussie.zone ⁨1⁩ ⁨year⁩ ago

My theory is that Melbourne’s awful weather is the cause. The city has adapted to have a lot of indoor type options to go. There’s a lot of exploring involved. I don’t know where it started, I think one of the first was The Waiter’s restaurant - a place that ignores all the rules of being on the main drag and trying to attract customers. This place is hidden up stairs down an alley up the end of Bourke St. It’s been there since the 40’s.

People like finding these hidden places and Melbourne has loads of them. It isn’t unique around the world, I’m sure, but Perth sure doesn’t have hidden places like this.

I’ve been having a headache that’s as much nausea as head pain. Don’t tell me the migraines are back. Then again dark chocolate is sometimes a headache trigger for me.

I’m having insights that are telling me I need to get good at art fundamentals but I don’t have the discipline to practice. It’s so boring and stressful to make yourself fail for the purpose of learning and draw incomplete imperfect things. Right now it seems to be enough of a challenge to get through each day.

I still haven’t been able to figure out what went wrong with the computer before but it hasn’t happened again, and I’m hoping it stays like that. My driver was out of date so I updated it but that’s about all I’ve done.

I did notice some funkiness in HWMonitor though. My copy utilisation was being… Weird. It was normal, then I checked 20 minutes later, and HWM reported it peaked at 8000%. I thought that was weird but just chalked it up to an error. Then half an hour later it was saying it had peaked at 54,645%. Now it’s saying it peaked at “18112064992…%” and my 3D utilisation apparently peaked at 9027.2%. I’ve got no clue what’s causing that, but there’s that ig.

I’ve also kept an eye on the other values and nothing seems too out of place, although apparently it’s dedicated RAM has ranged from 400Mhz to 6001Mhz. The temperatures have not gone above 48c.

So key takeaway: idk what’s going on, I’m just hoping it doesn’t happen again

I can’t even bear to finish For All Mankind because it got so ridiculous and poorly written.

Instead blasted through Shrinking and even though the writing is a little on the nose with the modern vernacular, it is really breezy, hilarious and sweet and just what I needed 😊

It’s such a fun show, makes me wish I had boisterous Americans as friends for a second *. Also, I absolutely loved uber-sarcastic Harrison Ford, he absolutely killed it.

    • while forgetting how insanely privileged/unrealistic it is for these people to have so much free time… and for the main character not to be deregistered as a therapist ages ago for having his client live in his own house lol.
