Pet Peeve - someone messages you on teams with a question, you go to reply and their status is set to Busy or DND.
Check later and they’re offline and out of office until next week.
Are some people really that scatterbrained?

I’ve got a contract until end of this year. It being public service, the job is all but guaranteed until then. Looking at other departments now, cause I want to keep my entitlements at least, but could go private if necessary.
I’m fortunate enough to have a decent amount of time to make that decision, others don’t have that luxury.

Some shitty news at work this morning. A couple of vacated senior positions will not be back filled. That’s a few opportunities we won’t be getting. Time to start looking elsewhere methinks.

Holy shit dude, glad you’re better. That’s absolutely scary.

Same! We had the AC going till about 2:30 to keep the air moving which was nice. Woke up at 430 and it was too warm…took me too long to fall back asleep (generally do it in seconds).
Today will be a struggle.

I’ve got a pixel and love it. Quick and versatile.
The flexibility of moving files around without iTunes is the best.
File sharing with Google is easy between devices too.
I cannot complain

As much as I love tea, it’s always hot flavoured water to me.
Coffee is coffee though

I find the ritual more satisfying than the coffee.
However, this doesn’t work with tea.
Even if I chose to have a second one, it’s the occassion and circumstances rather than the brew.

I’ve cut down to one a day recently. Don’t really feel the difference, but once winter kicks in, it’s going to be a struggle.

Once a few trains pass over it’ll be ground into a slurry I would imagine. Might smell for a day or two, but could also feed the local fauna!
win-win?

Around 5k with flights. Definitely considering that option. I’ve also been bombarding MPs and Senators with inquires about our current state of Medicare. Won’t do much, but makes me feel better.

This happens regularly around Footscray and Sunshine. It’s either junkies or people with clear mental health issues.
I’m not saying we shouldn’t take care of our most vulnerable, but when does the burden on society end?

If a person sees train tracks and first instinct is to walk on them…maybe, just maybe, we might be better off without them.
Young children notwithstanding, then it’s on the parents.

I just think trains shouldn’t stop or slow down. Hose off the cartilage and viscera at night and she’ll be right.
People should not be delayed and inconvenienced because of fuckwits.

Our two tier health care system is doing my head in right now.
No private, means I could wait up to two years for a small procedure.
Getting private now, means I’m waiting 12 months before my coverage kicks in.
Going private without insurance could costs me upwards of 10k (which we don’t have).
Some days I hate what’s become of this country.

Those are okay, but they’re not great at making a good edge.
The best ones to use are these type
There’s a bit of an art to using them, but there’s plenty of tutorials on YouTube. Once you get the hang of it, it’s a very relaxing process.
You also don’t need the dual block set. I’ve got one with one double sided block, and it works great.
These will work on all quality knives and can make shitty ones into very sharp ones.
- Comment on Daily Discussion Thread: 🌚 Wednesday, 15 January, 2025 6 days ago:
If you can, get some sharpening whetstones (cheap ones work fine). Takes a bit of practice to use them, but once you learn, your knives will be the best tool in your kitchen.

Settled now, but not the way I wanted to start.

First train trip into the CBD since late November. So uneventful. Can’t even complain about it.
The intrepid ticket inspectors at Parliament we’re busy bullying young people though.

I dunno. I train with some islander lads, that would dance with food. Not stereotyping, they’re just happy party people that like to eat.

An hour each way is bearable I think, but does depend on a few things.
If I’m driving for an hour, I want to be driving. Not sitting in traffic. Used to work in Geelong and it was like an hour door to door. It was great, but also going against traffic.

Back to work today…about 300 odd emails to get through, thankfully less than 25% will be pertinent.
An old colleague reached out to me over the weekend, regarding a role at his current work (large company, pretty cool project). Emailed their recruiting person to get some more details about it.
Good news is, clothes might actually dry today outside!!

Oh man, just noticed another neighbour’s SUV is sitting their driveway with the sunroof open.
They’re away for the weekend too. I threw some large plastic bags over it and taped it to the windows. Hope it holds.
