Ugh the place I do contract work for is absolutely pummelling me with new projects to take on. Looks like they’ve had some staff leave recently. No, I can’t do your work full time. I feel bad for ignoring the project offers but they are a stop-gap at the end of day, not my full-time gig. They definitely have enough work to hire someone with my experience full time, but it’s cheaper to just use the contractor I guess. They also don’t pay me nearly enough to take on the extra burden of their staff shortages.
I’m planning to use this situation to my advantage to get a better deal on fees, they obviously need me and I’ve been working for them long enough now to have some leverage. I’ve booked a call with the head manager next week, let’s see how we go! I’m becoming more ruthless in business by the day haha. But also, I need to earn the $$.

Tidying up around the house, there’s crap everywhere after a busy week. Dealing with laundry. Watering the indoor plants. Gym & pool in the afternoon. Have a massive pasta craving so will make for dinner. Then tennis watching & chill.

Having rooftop cocktails with some friends for my bday. The AO evening ground passes were sold out by the time I went to buy them and kinda turned out for that best as the weather went crappy. There’s a nice view of Parliament House from here. It’s been a fun day.

Today I am super tired and emotional, and have not achieved much with work. There’s a new house being built nearby and they started with the multiple nail guns very early this morning, probably trying to beat the heat. I was already having a terrible night’s sleep as well. It’ll be an earlier night tonight so I’ve had a decent sleep by the time they start up again tomorrow 😞

Bats are congregating in my yard. The next door neighbour doesn’t pick his apricot tree, they grab the fruit, hang off my trees and drop the leftovers below for me to clean up. The sounds they make are funny, like monsters.

There’s nothing worse than running around from place to place trying to see everything, that ain’t a holiday. I’ve done that style before and all it achieves is getting home feeling exhausted. You see what you see, you do what you do, going with the flow holidays are the best. If you miss seeing certain things, all the more reason to go back.

Sunny days between 20 and 27.5 degrees, not too much wind. Overnight low between 10 to 15 degrees for comfortable sleeping. This year round with occasionally balmier / beach days (around 30 degrees), and some occasional rainy days for moodier times and for the gardens.

Someone sat right behind me in co-working and started having an online meeting, out in the open because we all want to hear about it of course. I just did some subtle turning around with body language communicating “what’s that annoying and distracting sound that I suddenly hear”. Within a few minutes he moved into one of the sound proof booths. I’m getting very good at communicating my annoyance in ways that don’t involve any words. 😇

This is the exact centre I’m talking about. It is bonkers on hot days, but I do enjoy walking right in to the cool gym while looking at the poor sods lining up for the pool.

Leaving the gym earlier, there was a ridiculous line (easy 100 people deep) waiting to get into the crowded indoor pools that are part of the complex. Having to wait for people to leave before letting a new group in. The line snaked around outside too, all these people waiting in the heat for crowds and craziness. No thank you.

Last day of break, rushing around to tick off a few final holiday tasks. Every year I always do less than I expect to, but I need relax time as well.

What’s everyone’s NYE plans? For me, a friend hosts a gathering each year with a small group of regulars. It’s close to home so getting there & home is easy. There’s usually a spit and other yummy foods and a bonfire. I may get quite drunk as a fitting send-off to this year.

Super productive day tackling tasks that only get done on holidays. Cleaned out and reorganised the pantry, found foods buried in there with embarrassingly old use by dates. Cleaned the fridge and freezer out as well, pulled out all the shelves / compartments and washed them. Also patched up some plaster movements cracks that appeared like more than a year ago that stare me in the face every day, just needs to paint the areas tomorrow. I’ve never done this DIY fix before so hopefully it works once I paint. Even fit in some exercise too. That’s enough for today, now I chill.

Had a great time at Thornbury Witch’s xmas event. My first time meeting anyone from the DT (including from the Reddit days) and it was so nice for this little corner of the internet to come to real life in the way it did.
