Quick look at Melbourne Central on my way home from office and it was nuts. Went into one store and then straight on the train home, not in a crowded shopping centre mood at all. I mean I’m not sure if one is ever in that mood.

Probably very busy, but they’re big stations so I don’t think it will be shoulder-to-shoulder or anything like that. Depends on your / kids tolerance with crowds. I’m going to wait a few weeks to do the full tour, the stations aren’t going anywhere.

Being asked if I have plans on x day without telling me what they’re planning. I don’t fall for that. I need all the details upfront!

I don’t think I could go a full day with no food. I get hangry just skipping breakfast.

Been having poor / broken sleep lately and I think it’s from an increase in screen time, and at the wrong time (ie. on the couch just before going to bed). My mind was really racing last night. I’m going to try no phone 30 mins before bed tonight and see how I go, and then increase it to one hour. Get back into my reading instead during that time.

I’ve never even thought of reusing a teabag, but I only really drink black tea like Lipton etc, not a fancy tea drinker at all. I wouldn’t re-use Lipton.

Booked flights to Sydney - been invited to a client Christmas event which I can use as an excuse to claim flights / accom on the business, and also using the trip as my Christmas party for one. I’ve been feeling so wound up and stressed lately, looking forward to a couple of nights away.

I think you should take confidence from this experience - you were very close to getting the role if they requested references. You’ll be able to get the next one!

I’ve got my setting on very high (320kbps), do you think lossless makes a big difference? I did want to turn the setting on but I download my music so much more storage needed for lossless.

The old me would have stayed quite and put up with it, but not anymore.
I’ve also learned my lesson to call this behaviour out quickly. There’s a group of people from a business (not here today) who have been members longer than me who are so loud, so disruptive, and essentially untouchable (management won’t confront them after I complained). They also know they’re bothering me and give no shits. So as soon as there’s a new disruptive group, I approach very quickly to teach some workplace etiquette they should already know.

Two new people at my co-working space having Teams meetings on speaker and playing videos out loud. Put up with it for 30 minutes. Then went over and asked them to please stop playing videos from their computer on speaker loudly as it’s distracting to my work, and there are free meeting pods around if you need to make noise. No sorry, no speaking at all, just looked at me and each other like I was crazy for confronting them. Amazing how inconsiderate people can be.

Today sucked, just a crap day all around. Work is a lot right now, and on top of that some family drama popped up that I really don’t want to be a part of. Here’s hoping for a better rest of week.

Ooh metro tunnel opens 30 nov! I got a sneak peek ticket last month for State Library station, they’re huge and really well designed. Felt like I was in another city. Keen to check out the other new stations.

Assuming you’re going to Kyoto, most of the tourist attractions are on the outskirts of the city so choose a side for one day and focus on hitting up the attractions nearby to one another. Bamboo forest and monkey park are must-do for a first timer which you can visit in one day. I also enjoyed Ginkaku-ji and doing the Philosopher’s path to Nanzen-ji, the walk between the two temples is beautiful. Kiyomizu-dera is a must-visit temple, it’s enormous but very touristy, brace for crowds.
And if you have time, visit a smaller temple with less tourists where you can really soak in the atmosphere. And of course, visiting the alleyways of the Gion district, especially a night where you can bar hop.
The Yasaka Shrine is really cool at night (this is the one with the lanterns).
Kyoto is incredible, I want to go back!

back pain update - things are looking slightly up
The prescription anti-inflammatories I’m taking for my back are making me feel quite woozy and light-headed, but they are definitely helping with reducing the overall pain. Not out of the woods yet - it’s worst overnight / in the morning, tapers out during the day. At least I can move around more freely now and do some light exercising. Dr ChatGPT says my muscle strain could have healed already, but the inflammation remains. I have to push through the drug wooziness to get this under control. The x-ray / blood test results are back but the GP was booked out today, so I’m left on the edge of my seat until next week. I’m assuming no urgent phone call means nothing serious.

Can you go to the nearest station on another train line and uber from there? That is usually my strategy. And try DiDi too, often cheaper.

back pain update
Woke up very sore this morning so decided it was time to see a GP (had only seen a physio before). As the pain is not worsened by pressing down in the sore area, the GP suspects something deeper than a muscle issue. Got a blood test and x-ray done and some pain meds prescribed, now we wait. I am a little worried about how this is escalating, I really hope it’s nothing serious but better to be safe than sorry. I have a physio appointment tomorrow but not sure I will go, I think I want to rule out a deeper issue via the GP first.

Today is 3 weeks since my back muscle injury started and honestly I’m not sure I have seen any improvement. It’s less raw sore but the soreness level has gone down, up, down, up, and today is an up day. It’s really starting to affect me mentally. I don’t want to get out of bed most days because laying flat on my back is about the only position where the muscle feels completely “off”. I’ve never had a muscle injury like this that just keeps going and going. Just want this horror to end.

I saw a review of the KFC banh mi a couple days ago. Apparently it’s just the zinger fillet and slaw in a long roll, no pate, hoisin/soy or other key banh mi ingredients.
