He’s phenomenally good at pushing/negotiating for them to get the infrastructure and services they need. Don’t underestimate the power of that in a rural seat.
He’s a bit of a meme, but he’s exactly what you want in your local member

It helps more than not doing it would.
As for belonging to multiple marginalised groups…Melbs, so do I

Go through life trying to be decent to people. That’s within your reach, and is an excellent start

Wow. The Coalition guy speaking now on ABC is being amazingly honest. I’m impressed

I always forget that the seat of Bradfield exists.
The Bradfields are my people. There has been at least one famous one

As I said earlier, voters are never wrong. They can’t be.
If the far right bull isn’t something voters respond to, they’ll have to change if they ever want to win those votes back

The thing is, he does actually seem to have been a very good local member. He was dreadful as opposition leader, but as “the local rep” in a single seat he was competent and conscientious.
It’s a weird dichotomy. His performance as a single member might have won him a longer leash to be opposition leader

He handled that well, I can give him that. On what’s clearly a challenging day for him personally, he’s been quite dignified in defeat

My train ride home intersected with a bucks party. Nice boys

Dad’s involved in the counting for Kooyong. Obviously he’s limited to very simple communications, but he sounds like he’s having a ball
- Comment on Discussion Thread 🗳️ Saturday 3 May 2025 1 day ago:
You’re all enjoying the count. The polls haven’t even shut here yet

If we hadn’t just been shown exactly what that actually means - behold, the United States! - it might be more popular. But we have, and for all that Australians love a good bitch about politicians…we don’t love it enough to burn the place down

I have yet to find my pub for the evening to watch it

Then that was a misunderstanding, not a mistake.
Any given voter’s choice, regardless of who they vote for or if they vote at all, is always a valid and correct one. There are no wrong answers. Even if the decision ends up being one they find they disagree with later on for Reasons.
Melbs hasn’t made a mistake - no voter can - so there’s no point stressing herself sick over the possibility of error.
- Comment on Discussion Thread 🗳️ Saturday 3 May 2025 1 day ago:
Your single vote will not empower dipshits.
Even if it could…voters are never wrong. Sometimes the choices of voters have unforeseen consequences, but as a voter exercising your rights you cannot make a wrong choice doing it. Whatever you picked is right.

I’m having a quiet night in watching the footy, as I’m expecting a busy quokka filled election day. Bought a salad and a Woolies quarter chicken and settled in.
Also bought Masters spearmint milk, because that’s A Thing over here apparently…and it’s legitimately great? I don’t understand why we don’t also have minty milk?
