There’s a couple of fires round Altona meadows and point Cook. I opened my window for so fresh air and immediately had to shut it again. Now the air purifier is going OFF!

Glad you are there ok. First day never goes to plan for me. If you are there and get a rest that’s a win!

I mean I have the Vic emergency app and listen to ABC Radio so it seems pretty clear. But I dunno…I know a few people who really should be across it (i.e. in catastrophic fire areas) that just didnt seem to know? One older mate in particular that really should know better. But I grew up with cyclones and some people just never cared then - couldn’t wait till go sightseeing through floodwaters. So just how it is I guess?

Thanks - I have lovely reddish lights but am regretting that now. Have upped the computer screen brightness. I also have a great app called myNoise that does awesome selection of nature and coloured / ambient noise. I will check out your suggestions. Hope you and melbcat are faring ok.
climate
I work with environmental stuffs and yeah, I’ve not been ok about it for a long time. I grew up with floods and cyclones and that was always exciting when i was young but now …ooof. Hard to deal with the grief in summer, that’s all.

Windows are west facing so not keen on that but did just go stand outside for a bit. I might set a timer for breaks

I am physically fine (apartment A/C is holding up and I am free to work here all week and not in a fire area) but I’m really jumpy today. I dunno if its just because I am back at work too soon or if I have just lived through too many general disasters + my general climate anxiety. I keep thinking I’m missing something and wanting to check here and the other place and vic emergency. Maybe its just the lack of natural light from closed blinds. Going to put some ambient music on and try to focus…

Just a PSA that a bunch of library services around Melbourne and Vic are running extended hours today to provide cool spaces for people. I know Mooney Ponds and Hobsons Bay are so assume a lot of them are doing the same.

Cheers to all the back to work people today. May our inboxes be quiet and may it be quiet enough to keep one eye on the cricket.

Paid nine Buckaroos for an ice cream at the beach the other day. From a dodgy van too. Bog standard

Personally (and YMMV - I am a short arse) I would pick an aisle seat even if there’s others in the row. Middle sucks on long haul. Aisle means you can put your feet out a bit and get up and stretch anytime. Seats can fill up and change at the last minute. And if there are empty seats near you you can move. Just wait until after take off and give a nod to the flight staff to check it’s ok

Wander along the waterfront and catch up at a local with some friends/fam early. Might stick around to see if I can see the 9:30 fireworks. Hopefully home in bed by 10:30 😊 which is just perfect in my books

I hear ya and I feel for you. I am planning to double down on anti-inflammatory foods etc in the new year because random inflammation/autoimmune shenanigans are kicking my arse…but they can prise the coffee out of my cold dead hands.

Despite the clouds and sunscreen I do believe I copped a bit of colour. Was a nice morning for it. Got cajoled into the cold cold sea by one of the family younguns and it was lots of fun. Am tired. Time for book and early night.

Yyyeessss…NYE late night party plans have changed due to small kids needing sleep. So a couple of us will go out for early drinks then I will pack them home by 9/10ish. Sweet

Beach done…last of Christmas icecream consumed for breakfast. Afternoon is haircut and car wash.
Also I appear to have been co-opted into a social new year’s eve with the out of town family. No CBD or crowds but still I do very much like my NYE tradition of quietly going to bed early then early morning beach. It’s nice to have family here…but…feeling a bit conflicted.

Two chairs (office chair and comfy chair) and one of two plant shelves constructed. Am tired. Taking break before the last push.
rambles
It very weird spending money on new things. I have spent my adult life thrifting but have also realised that making a one bedroom apartment function needs just the right things. And I am actually pretty impressed with the IKEA quality. And it will be nice for my plants to have a home in the sun and be able to sit among them.

Thanks! I have been wanting to find an easy way back into exercise without going to the gym. I like a plan because the thinking about what to do blocks me.
