Hopefully you can get a second opinion from a different psychiatrist. I have heard stories before of people having additional conditions to adhd, which get missed because adhd symptoms can overlap with other things. If the medication is causing your life quality to be lower than without it, this sounds like it’s definitely the wrong stuff and needs a review. Taking it should be helpful, not make things worse.

An automated daily posting would be the right way to go, if it’s possible. It means it’s not dependant on any specific user being awake, remembering, or have obligations to remain a user here, in case they ever wish to delete their account. A lot of people find value in the community here and it would be a pity to loose that. I feel terrible about the interactions I saw yesterday. I hope Baku and Spud both Ok and would like to come back when they are ready.

I’m leaning to dog whistle, not accident. Gesture was very distinct and decisive, and he did it twice. Disgusting. I’m horrified. But even if it was just ‘a gesture’, racists will see a message, think he is signalling them. This needs to be instantly and strongly denounced by Musk. Groups like The Proud Boys are Trump worshippers, they feel he represents them. Some of the crazier ones might feel they have freedom to act on their beliefs now. I’m scared for Australia too. I just hope we have enough good people to counter it and weather the storm.

Well this escalated. Umm so I kinda feel uncomfortable. It’s a tough day but I didn’t read anything nefarious in Baku’s comment. It’s a magpie, with a comment to say it’s to distract from the heavier stuff. No big deal. There’s plenty of other lighter posts here today for the same reason. Like you said, 17.

I’m jealous. My local IGA is rubbish. Dirty fridges, saggy fruit and veg, no special products. Once I bought milk there and it was off the next day, suspect it wasn’t refrigerated properly. I don’t shop there even though it’s closer than colesworth and I like the idea of supporting independents. But it’s just not an appealing place to buy food from.

Sadly I agree. Historically war and large socially inequality is the normal state of affairs for humans, not peace.

I’ve never noticed it that frequently. I would guess once a quarter where I live. I would call the gas company to check what’s going on. It costs them money to send people out so they wouldn’t do it for no reason?

In the midst of today’s gloom about the times we live in, (and gloomy it is), here is a small but significant Nice Thing appreciation. We live in a time where there is a machine in my kitchen that can keep stuff cold, and it even has a special section where it can keep flavoured creamy and icy confections frozen, and keep frozen water for my drinks. A delight on a hot day.

Happy Birthday! Hope despite your feels, you have a good day. Could have written this myself, I also get the birthday sads, for the exact same reasons. I don’t have a solution just sympathy, and letting you know you’re not the only one. Stay away from social media for a few days (or forever!) where your friends/family are posting about achievements and having fun. Comparison can hurt. Also remember, people rarely post the bad stuff, and frequently embellish the good stuff.

Gina Rinehart putting a full page ad praising Trump in the Wall Street Journal is unsettling. And that photo, just weird. I’d like to get off this 2025 timeline and go back to the normal one please.

So the tv show Severance season 2 is finally here. It’s being released weekly instead of all at once, so I was debating with myself whether I wait for it to be all available to binge it, or watch week by week. Have decided I can’t wait and just watched the first episode. Worth it. It’s masterful how they can put so many discombobulating elements into it.

I think best first step is have a chat with him. If he is elderly maybe he has someone already helping him with gardening, maybe ask the leaves be swept from your side too? But you would need to give them access. But genuinely, why not just sweep and put it in the green bin? Why would you blow it into the street? I live in a leafy area. Sometimes neighbours trees leaves fall in my yard. Sometimes mine fall in theirs. Sometimes street tree leaves blow in everyone’s yards. Put it in the bin and enjoy having a nice tree around.

I think there’s a huge difference between people who are homeless due to things like bad luck, domestic violence and economic circumstances; and people who have severe mental health issues, violent antisocial behaviours, debilitating drug dependence. If there was a way of separating them, then temporary basic accomodation might work for the nonviolent group? With fast track supports to get them back into housing and independence. And the remainder need to go to more specialised facilities for long term care, because it might be that they will never be well enough to live independently. But I’m sure that would be very controversial. I wish we could actually try solutions based on objective outcomes rather than political vote getter policies.

Some weekends are just like that. Also I LOVE Severance. I’m up to ep7 of my rewatch. It’s just as awesome second time around.

Very much agree. It’s all about maximum volume sales, maximum consumption, minimum possible manufacturing costs. If stuff is crap people will be forced to buy more, yay for the shareholders! It’s hard to find quality items anymore even if you try and are willing to pay more.

This AO match between Borges and Alcaraz is a good tennis. Lots of rallies and interesting shots. Much more engaging than when you get 2 players whose style is big serves.

So sorry to hear that. I’ve also had the experience of finding out direct relatives I’ve never met had died. I never feel anything except maybe a curiosity about who they may have been, would we have got along. But nothing more personal. They were a stranger. I don’t think sharing DNA means anything, really. It’s knowing people and interacting that has meaning. But also, I never had any expectation that we would ever meet, so that probably affects my take on things. Knowing you closely missed out on a meeting would be more difficult. There would a sense of loss if it were me. Hope you can work through it and feel OK.

I wouldn’t say it’s something I’m ‘in to’ specifically. I do read/watch sci-fi, but it’s not the dominant or only genre for me. I happily enjoy literature, crime, non-fiction, general fiction, biography. Sci-fi is so broad, it’s not just spaceships and laser beams. Just like any other genre, there’s unreadable junk and then also brilliant works that leave you thinking long after you’ve read them. I like the same things about it that I do in other genres, eg human struggles, mysteries to solve, comedy, redemption, action, discovery, drama etc. I mostly read the softer stuff where the sci-fi is not really the point of the story, just happens to allow a ‘what if’ scenario that our current reality doesn’t.

Yes that’s a good take, the employers need to be held accountable for unfair dismissals. Perhaps the affected people could investigate their rights through fair work Australia or one of those law firms that specialise in this kind of stuff.

What a mess. I feel sorry for everyone involved in this story. I don’t know enough about the law to know if she has committed any crimes, under what laws? But if there’s a chance for the wrongly accused people to clear their reputations and get some compensation for their lives being disrupted then they should pursue it. The wife may not even understand she had done anything wrong and may not understand any penalties, and it certainly won’t cure her, so legal action probably wouldn’t have any affect on her thoughts or future behaviours. It’s purely for the benefit of the victims.

Wow! I thought my 290hrs this year was a high amount but not even close! It listed my top category as Literature and Fiction which only slightly edged out sci fi and myster/thriller categories which had a similar number of hours. It said I earned a ‘genre hopper ribbon’.

Just think of the money you will have wasted if you ruin your new engine straight away. Patience is required.
