Did the Lego star wars exhibition at the museum today. E kids are a bit young for star wars but they enjoyed it anyway. I haven’t kept up with all the shows or watched the last movie so it can feel weird to see Lego sets and characters I don’t know. I’m so used to seeing rehashed Lego sets from the same 6 movies as they try milk everything they can from the franchise

As far as I know I’m not autistic. But I imagine it would feel like when you walk into a chemist warehouse and they have those TVs playing at the end of every isle and they’re all playing the same thing slightly out of sync. They all have volume on as well so you don’t know which one to focus on and it adds so much aural clutter to an already visually busy store.

My kids are obsessed with intergalactic by the Beastie boys so the present from their great grandfather was a collectible action figure set of the robot and the octopus. It was great to hear them say it was their favourite present when they opened it

That would have been a better car gift. It was a Mazda 323, nothing special. I know they did it because my brother had personalised plates but he had a Subaru Liberty that was much more interesting and he’s much more of a car guy than me

My parents gave me personalised numberplates one time. This was up in NSW where you have to pay a fee to have personalised plates, so they essentially got me an extra $100 on top of my rego every year.
And I drove a silver car so they got me gold number plates. I know no one would have actually cared but I felt like everyone was looking at my car when I drove out of the RTA with the new plates on because they clashed so much

A weird win today with one of my laptops. It was running out off space because a busted Windows partition was taking up so much room. It also stopped doing system updates to Linux, which I thought was because Secureboot was on and blocking it. I took the SSD out, reformatted it, even unplugged the battery to the motherboard clock, and turned it all back on. Secureboot was still on and locked by the BIOS, but Fedora has reinstalled anyway.
Now I just need to check if it slows down on Google websites like before. If Google sites work smoothly it will feel like a new laptop all over again

Had a bit of an embarrassing miscommunication yesterday. I saw I had a missed call, I thought they tried to call me twice, so I called them back. The guy said he was trying to return a call I made.
Then I remembered I tried to call the place I get coffee beans from but forgot about it because it went straight to voicemail. I couldn’t call him back after that, so I picked up beans near where we were at the time and they’re pretty good

Went to the new park I’ve been keeping an eye on because it’s finally open. It’s a decent area, certainly things that child have been done better. But more importantly, I need to check it out for riding to and from work, that’s what I’ve been waiting for with this park

Just heard Nathan Sadowski on an episode of Download This Show. I never thought I’d hear him on there. I was a little concerned when Rae Johnston was going to take over from Marc Fennel but she’s doing a great job and is bringing more tech skepticism to the show than Marc’s intended neutral tech news premise

Turns out a stomach bug is going through the house so I’ve decided to work from home instead off risking what would have otherwise been an interesting work trip to round out the year. I went in and showed my manager how to use some of our camera equipment so I’m praying we get some decent shots that I can turn around before the end of the day

And I had the weirdest chance encounter today. I ran into the former singer of Twelve Foot Ninja where he currently works. I got to tell him how my kids are obsessed with ‘Sickman’ as we’ve dubbed him from their Sick music video. Although I felt like it needed a bit of context as to why we were showing 3 year olds (who were younger at the time they first watched it) the Sick music video.

You can get their stuff so much cheaper on Aliexpress than the regular stores around here. I got the rapoo mt760l and it has been perfectly serviceable. They also do a keyboard/trackpad combo like the Logitech one I really like. I may get one of those later just for the heck of it

I don’t know if anyone has had any particular problems with Logitech but I’ve been using this Rapoo mouse I got off Aliexpress for a while and I’d be quite willing to sell my soul and swap ecosystems. It’s not quite as good, but for a bit over $50 for a Master series replacement you really can’t complain.
