If this shit impacts overwintering of my chillis I’m gonna write a stern letter. To someone.

Got done by a lemon tree thorn a few days ago. Tiny little prick but it’s really puffed up. Headed over to Dr. google and learnt a new word:
Phytophotodermatitis, where when you get done, then expose it to UVA it flares up. Most common from lemon trees apparently.
Little fucker packs a punch. I had no idea.
I will wear gloves next time.

I wouldn’t jump on that.

Before you know it you’ll be reverse mortgaging for a second floor extension and then cat will be asking for help to get down.

I just use paper towel (2-3 layers) in a colander over a bowl. Slowly drips through. Seems to work and not much mess.

Super deep sleep last night.
Also didn’t get any afterdrop after the swim last night. Puts monocle on… One theory is that afterdrop happens when your core tries to continue to warm up peripherals (due to peripheral vasoconstriction from the cold).
So the experiment is what happens if you dilate them blood tubes with chilli before jumping in. Body wants to restrict blood to limbs but can’t, so core temp drops more quickly, but that activates the trusty brown fat (BAT). The idea is to see if chilli can reduce the symptoms of mild hypothermia (mainly shivering and lethargy) by inducing it before jumping in.
Seems counter-intuitive af BUT not the first person to think of it
“Capsaicinoids have another advantage in that they could be administered to patients in the field as an initial response or could even be used in combination with physical cooling methods to reduce the need for sedatives and muscle relaxants and create a stable, more controllable hypothermia in people.”
Thank you for reading my pseudo probably incorrect scientific report.

I will never forgive the pigeon that stole my whopper junior (with cheese) at fed square at 3am many moons ago. I wasn’t in the best state so it wasn’t a fair fight.
The resident magpie down here takes them out for sport which I fully support.

Handrail done!
Have to say I am fond of squabbling with the old man about how to go about the DIY stuff. There’s never any love lost but it is hilarious when there’s disagreement.
Sort of a pseudo argument. You can be both right but wrong. You agree to disagree, then disagree on agreeing to finally agree to agree, but deep down you disagree.
I guess that’s bonding.

Installing a little outdoor handrail for the p’s today. Just 5 steps.
Safe to say I have no idea what I’m doing.
I have watched the youchoobs though so with any luck they won’t fall down.

Ooh was thinking powder maybe. Would love to do something like hot honey or chilli jam though.
My rando tomato plant is also doing the same thing as yours! heh. So late to the party. I don’t have the heart to pull it out.

Still punching out chillies late june!
had to clear a metric fucktonne of oxalis (again) to find them heh.
I guess the great thing about these things being near the coast is there’s little frost.

Decided to take the kukri (further sharpened today on a silicone carbide stone) to the lemon tree for the first time as it needed pruning. Turns out to be a good fast tool for that work. Hit those little branches at 45 degrees… straight through.
Ended up with 22kg (!) and heaps more to go :)

Just got rid of a whole lotta concrete at the tip. Nearly died when they were trying to charge $151. Got it for $31.50 instead.
But that was very satisfying throwing it on the pile, loud noises breaking shit. Threw one bit up the top of the pile and caused an impressive concrete avalanche.
But jeez the matress disposal area… most of those were better than mine.

My brown fat is generating so much heat this morning but I’m still putting 2 sheets of toilet paper on the toilet seat before jumping on to ease the pain. I know it’s wasteful but we must do what we can to survive this icy blast.

First ever dish completely performed by the almost restored kukri:
So amazed by whoever(s) made that knife (I am working on it buddy trust me). Wasn’t great on fresh small chilli but the already dead calamari and lemon never stood a chance.

Absolutely wild night of dreams and trips to the loo (uh oh, last time that happened was hit by el rones a day or so after).
None of them made any sense and moved so fast. Get back from the loo, head hits pillow and bam, jump straight back into a very strange dreamworld.
And hyper sensitive hearing… Road noise dead of night was super deafening. In the shower this morning the white noise from the water led me to hallucinate that was I listening to carnival music ever so slightly in the background. I mean it was catchy, but I would’ve preferred a different genre.
I hope I’m not going mad yikes.
Lowkey though hope that happens again tonight (except the loo part)… Free trip!
