Somehow, I completely neglected to put “wallet” on my packing list and had pretty much left the building to get into the uber before I remembered in a panic at the last possible second. Thank fuck, given that I’m renting a car in WA in about a week and would need my physical driver’s licence most likely. Although, worst case I could’ve gotten my friend (who has keys to my place) to express post it over but anyway, crisis averted.
I’m sure I’ll remember some other thing I wanted to take over and forgot about, but it’s too late now! 😎 I have the most important things and clothes to suit every damn weather condition so I’m set. Off to try and be a human again…

Argh yes the periodic changeover of providers… That’s top of the list of Admin Shit I’ll Sort Out Once I’m Several Thousand Kilometres Away From It All. I actually like my current provider and will be using basically no energy until 6 Sep but I know I won’t have the headspace to think about it when I get back, and why pay more per day for just connection rates?

Frogurts are banned in this weather. Cursed or otherwise… (that’s good)

We could all do with a defrost after recent conditions. Even for work it’ll be nice to get a bit of warmth!! Enjoy!

Sad: Realised this library book I’ve been procrastinating on reading can’t be renewed any more and is due while I’m away. Have to drive quite a ways away to return it.
Glad: realised I could borrow the same title from a different library system on the way back, and it’s closer to home (they were all on loan last month).
Sad: couldn’t find my library card. Shit shit shit.
Glad: library staff extremely helpful in getting me a barcode to use. Book borrowed and ready to read in detail on my holiday!
Sad: well now it’s late and traffic and gah. Will I run out of time to do everything tonight?
Glad: oh wait I booked my flight for tomorrow late arvo, not midday like my brain thought. So I have plenty of time. Yey.

This is a really good point re: the passport. For example, getting the highest level of security on myID (which you might want to lock out scammers etc) requires an Australian passport.

I haven’t started packing yet and I’m heading into the office for lunch as my colleagues are taking me out to celebrate finishing my degree. I guess I’d better start now 🥱 😴 😳 🏃🏽♀️

It makes sense to put apartments there but boy the traffic is going to be even more heinous. I guess they were planning on shutting the place down anyway, it’s so dingy and unrenovated, and all the other shops in that block have progressively closed down (first the vegetarian restaurant, then Laurent, and I suppose the $2 shop is next)
I hope this doesn’t mean the excellent (in terms of range) Kew Woolies doesn’t start enshittifying because they have less competition. And that toscanos can up their game.

Lots of running (driving) around for gifts and things today. Used to be so much more excited about hunting down truly local gifts from Melbourne but idk these days I haven’t got the energy.
Leo’s in Kew is apparently closing down - after the Heidelberg one was shuttered - so that’s a big loss of random imported fancy groceries. Gonna grab my Monsieur Truffe for the last time in a long time I guess…
sigh I came home for a pit stop that lasted 45 minutes but it’s time to get my arse in motion again before traffic becomes deathly

That earthquake off the coast of Kamchatka has set off so many tsunami warnings across the Pacific! 8.8 is big though.

If nothing else seemed to be working I’d consider it. Definitely a strong link between the gut and brain so it doesn’t seem that out there even if the thought of it is gross (it’s not like I have to see or ingest or touch the stuff at least).

Last day of in-office work before I go away for a month (where I might do a bit of occasional remote work because the money would be nice…) Really dry and boring document review to do today but it could be worse.
Things remain generally very quiet though (compared to the utter craziness that we had all of last financial year), so I’m actually legitimately a bit worried about how the business will keep up especially after I come back. Eh, that’s not a problem for today. Maybe it’s the universe prompting me to think a bit broader.

I won’t be in Melbourne for Parasite Live In Concert - watching the film with the orchestral score played live - but if I was I would’ve been very tempted to book a ticket.

Yeah, that’d definitely do it. The times I’ve been stressed out on long PT trips (excluding delays, bad weather, external factors), it’s often been because of the others on the bus or train and my own often subconscious tension/discomfort

Owwww. But also, understandable. It really is the definition of “in your face”. I think after I got a tooth yanked out under local anaesthesia I’ve become a bit more numb to whatever they do to my teeth… that and my gums are so perpetually inflamed I think they can’t feel much pain any more

Traffic was absolutely cunted everywhere on my way home from the north east. Guess there’s too much stuff happening and too many road closures. After a solid afternoon of (futile) weeding, shoveling, scrubbing the bejesus out of a sink with turpentine, and moving a bunch of other stuff at my aunt’s place, I reckon I deserve tonight’s blob out.
Tomorrow: tree planting in the cold and maybe wet. Brrr!

Building on yesterday’s awesome news, I finally got a follow up call from the ATO today and yes, there was some weirdass error by my super where they definitely did not send through any information the first time (not even the notice of intent to claim; the deduction was missing entirely), and I was told that they are actually legally required to do it within 10 business days, so they 100% messed up as by the time I did my tax return it should’ve been done…
And even then, trying to check it on my own is a pain as as even after the super fund does submit the data (which they did do right after I called them last week to go WTF), it can ages for it to show up on my ATO portal - it’s been over a week, and I can’t still see any contribution on my end - but the ATO dude could see it on his end, and only because he did a deep-dive into the raw data, and that’s because the case was escalated to that level, so…
Long story short, at least it’s all sorted out now, and I will get an updated tax assessment in about 5-7 business days with a refund of ~$950 like I expected to, instead of a tax bill of $2.5k like I currently have. SIGH.
Will have to draft up a stern email to the super about please not letting it happen again kthx.
