These chilli oils are generally designed to be tasty but not necessarily very hot. I used to eat lao gan ma out of the jar and this stuff is probably not as spicy (this brand appears to be marketed at westeners).
I did get one made locally brand at some Asian shop a couple years ago that was definitely on the much hotter side. Wish I remembered the name. Took me over a year to finish it. Strong onion presence which I love

For real. I estimated I saved about $20 on a 3/4 refill. Worth the detour. Especially if you’re doing long drives. Hopefully the cycle will be coming down next time you need to fill up! I’m kind of annoyed because I thought low crude oil prices = low fuel prices overall but nope, they’re still going to go up when the petrol station cartel decides to…
- Comment on Discussion Thread 🃏 Friday 30 May 2025 1 day ago:
I filled up yesterday after I forgot on Wednesday and a whole chunk of places had upped their prices overnight. 20c is one thing but 50-60c is an easy minimum $20 saving on a full tank. Luckily there was no queue at the place yesterday, I once went to fill up at the last cheap station in the western suburbs a few months ago and it took 20 mins just to get to the fuel pump. Tensions were running high with traffic blocking the side street and what have you.

I have managed to shift to a more comfy position and get the joy of stroking her and ruffling her chin every so often. This is life 🥰

Success, I am now trapped on the couch by a warm and purry feline. … I’m just not in the most comfortable position to hold but I mustn’t move the cat.

I gave her a Churu knockoff earlier to improve the mood all around, I think I might actually steal her cat bed and wear it to see if she’ll come snuggle on the couch

The blues are here even with soxcat around. Some sad news lately that just seems to put a damper on things and my lack of progress lately on the thesis ain’t good.
Try again tomorrow… Gonna disappear into a chip packet for now and ponder AI taking over everything again after watching some VEO 3 clips.
Also I can’t get over how unbelievably soft sox’s fur is. And she still smells like baby powder. Even though she only eats dine crap at home…
- Comment on Discussion Thread 😺Thursday 29 May 2025 2 days ago:
I don’t think soxcat would be very nutritious as she is about 90% fur. But yeah some snuggles would be nice (although not helping me actually address part of the cause of my malaise which is not finishing this stupid thesis)

Yes, I don’t think she was too happy at all about having to move and was certainly upset about it at the beginning. But I think food and warmth trumps a lot of misgivings and she definitely remembers me now even though I’m not in the same place.

When she was younger and she lived in the same apartment complex at me she was pretty chilled out even on the first day, though it took her longer to get comfy enough for lap time.
This time around she’s started off hot but then gone a lot further. I guess there’s not much else for her to do in this tiny apt either…

Pretty awful day to be out and about but it was made bearable through teamwork (can’t believe I said that). I might do some work from home tomorrow and see if the cat can be enticed to enjoy some lap time on the oodie. In fact, I might do a bit of that tonight if I feel up to it… sox was remarkably affectionate when I got back and even did a bit of lap sitting in order to furiously headbutt my gloved hand. I suppose she must love the hand that feeds her the treats 😁

Oooh shit going up that much again? So much for oil prices coming down or whatever. I’d better fuel up, I’m down to 30%. Thanks for the heads up!

Huh, so apparently all that wind has been blowing over a ton of dust as well - explains why my car looked like someone had splashed a light layer of mud all over it today. Fieldwork went well enough despite the gusts, and it was nice to be back doing something I feel competent in…
Glad to be out of the elements this evening just as the wind hits. It’s nice to be spending my evening gazing at sox, who is still too slinky and elusive to photograph properly in the dim light of this apartment, and is still busy marking her scent on everything possible, including power cords, paper bags and plant pots. She herself smells remarkably of baby powder.
No more hissing, though I think it’ll be a couple of days yet before we get to snuggle time. She was a bit unsettled by the wind noise and kept glancing up nervously while eating, but I think my standing near her while she ate helped calm her down.

She’s randomly hissed and panted at me out of nowhere twice but seems to be mostly just investigating and figuring shit out. The first night is harder now that her owner and I aren’t in the same building and she can’t visualise my place as an extension of her old home. It’s her first time in this apartment too. But she’ll settle down soon enough I think. As long as she keeps to gnawing cardboard and not my houseplants.

You’ve inspired me to get off the usual screens and finally get started on a book I’ve been meaning to read for a while - Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. It’s starting off really well! I’m going to go back to it after this comment, but…
I had a closer relationship to lower living standards growing up, still very much first world but things like your own patch of grass, the space to not live constantly surrounded by others, a relaxed way of living, wide open spaces and yes, having a car for many people, were all almost unattainable privileges. And just one generation removed my family came from a country that definitely had much less: I remember the constant power cuts, military checkpoints, curfews when I visited (and we were considered privileged back there, having migrated away from it all). Parents had their stories of lining up for rations, the bombings, the terror…
Yet I still often fall into the trap of the hedonistic treadmill and forget how absolutely, blinking, freaking lucky and rich I am to be where I am right now. It’s easy to get caught up in how unaffordable housing is, etc, and it’s not like those things shouldn’t change, but holy shit most people in the world would still kill to be here in our places. We never, ever genuinely have to worry about starving… What a blessing.
And Peeler, you yourself have such a generous, creative, loving personality that is its own richness regardless of material wealth ☺️ the minis are blessed to have you as their mum indeed!

There was one awful scraggly one in a stupid location at an old sharehouse that I foolishly tried to pull out (failed) and then mow over several times, both when I first lived there ten years ago and then more recently about 4-5 years ago.
I’m pretty sure the bastard is still alive.

Hmm so I don’t think I had the cold after all, I think I was going through a caffeine withdrawal - built up far too much of a tolerance and wasn’t flushing it out of my system properly all these weeks, hence constantly feeling tired (and then trying to drink more to keep myself going).
After a full day of hell with the headaches, nausea and not getting out of bed, I feel heaps better - woke up clear-headed, without feeling lethargic (haven’t felt that way in a while), naturally got out of bed at 8am, put away my dishes and having a light breakfast with a SMALL amount of coffee.
I can’t wait to finish this thing so I can properly investigate dialling down my caffiene intake altogether, maybe switch back to green tea like I did years ago.

Man, I think I caught a bit of whatever’s going around. No respiratory issues whatsoever, don’t think I even have a fever but the headache came back with a vengeance and I’ve been so fatigued with so little appetite that I only got out of bed for the first time at 9:30 PM - yes, PM, nearly 24 hrs straight in bed - to pee (an unholy dark liquid) and eat and drink something. Feel full after a couple of bites although my stomach is making all the food noises. Managed to keep down dinner, took two Nurofen with an antacid, back in bed and I hope to HELL that I’ll feel better tomorrow.
