Last day of in-office work before I go away for a month (where I might do a bit of occasional remote work because the money would be nice…) Really dry and boring document review to do today but it could be worse.
Things remain generally very quiet though (compared to the utter craziness that we had all of last financial year), so I’m actually legitimately a bit worried about how the business will keep up especially after I come back. Eh, that’s not a problem for today. Maybe it’s the universe prompting me to think a bit broader.
indisin@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Jfc I’m pretty damn glad I pirated 28 Years Later and didn’t go to the cinema to watch it like I’d planned. I hadn’t watched any trailers or read any reviews.
And, what in the ever loving shit was that pile of utter wank thrust upon my eyes?
1/10 and it gets the 1 point purely for the Power Rangers scene because by that point I genuinely didn’t think it could possibly get any worse but nope, to my utter disbelief they managed to subvert my expectations and pull it off.
That film has no redeeming features and I want money back for my time wasted.
Fucking hell, I really hated that film. I should’ve turned it off 5 minutes in when it became apparent that the opening scene wasn’t a parody.
If they’d have called it “Monty Python’s 28 inches later” it would’ve still been a shit Monty Python film by their standards, but at least I would’ve known what to expect.
StudChud@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I have not seen it, but I am here for your rage
useless_modern_god@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
This is a wildly hot take. Love it.
SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
This is beautiful enough to make me wonder if you downloaded a Monty Python Parody. Well done.

Hotel club lounge have got me pegged. Take the empty plate, leave the empty glass because it will be refilled.
Snorkelling today, was absolutely stunning out there. Calm, sunny and filled with beautiful fish and coral.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
sounds like heaven 💖
so jelly re the snorkling,
here in wintry Seaholme I pick up bits of coral and shells and use my imagination

Yup, just passed the half way point of 8 nights in Cairns!

wonderful day to tackle mount washmore.
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I did most of my washing a couple of days ago, so only had to tackle Molehill Washmore. But the load of towels is outside drying with a touch of sun and a bit of a breeze.

Duenan@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Managed to get into work.
Not to most comforable to walk around unfortunately.
Going to try and do as little on my feet today as possible.
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I hope you heal quickly. Nails are one of those things that give me the heebie jeebies.
Duenan@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Thanks Ceo.
Nail might be ok but my toe was swollen and I spent most of the day with ice on my foot.
I’ll do another ice pack session today after I finish work, I hope I haven’t aggrevated it today by coming back to work.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
can you ice up during lunch break?
Duenan@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Possibly?
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I have a rental inspection this morning, which means I can’t slob around in my pyjamas all day. I should probably find somewhere else for those random things I threw in the bath tub yesterday to give me more room to sort things. Mr Woof is going to be very upset, two visitors in the same week, that’s like a full on invasion of our territory!
mertn22@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I just moved in to my brother’s house. He moved to Vietnam. No more inspections. I was getting two inspections a week because the old place was up for sale. Bunch of randos coming to visit and gawk. No more inspections!
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
That would be a nightmare. Not just because of the frequency, but because people who are looking to buy want to be able to poke into everything, plus the added stress that if they buy the place these people will either be taking over as your landlord or evicting you at the end of the lease. I am really hoping I don’t get stuck in that situation.

Anthem for the Year 2000 - Silverchair still hits hard.
Fuck that album is so damn good
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Melbcat has been checked out, given a vitamin b shot and blood test, and her blood pressure med is going up to a whole tablet.
The little black spot on her nose will be monitored as it could be precancerous, and if it gets large again there’s a cream that can resolve it.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
so , Melbcat is being looked after well and everything is under control 😊
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I’m still worried as the black spot may be precancerous and could turn into squamous cell carcinoma. What’s currently happening is very slow growing and might not turn bad but it’s not a nice thought
Duenan@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Why, why do people keep coming to interrupt me during my lunch break?
I’m playing games on my Switch, is that not sign enough that I should be left alone?
SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
So glad I’ve trained my workplace to NOT do that. If I’m in a bad enough mood, I closed the lunch room door - but the people whoever share my lunch break time know they’re perfectly welcome.
Duenan@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I have no door :/
I was trying to play Splatoon 3.
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Inspection done. Mr Woof was as upset about the invasion as expected and Miss Meow is still in hiding.
The sun has come out and it’s a fairly decent day outside, I’m hoping it’s enough to get a load of towels dry.
Edit: Miss Meow has just emerged from underneath the couch.

I saw the band Ulthar are playing the Bendigo Hotel this Saturday. They’re the sort of band I thought would be too small to ever come here.
Check them out if you like the idea of an album being two 20 minute songs full of blackened death metal rifs

I recently read that ABC article on how a faecal transplant allegedly treated a woman’s bipolar. Would you do such a transplant?
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Shit yeah
Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
They’re using faecal transplants for a number of issues now. Notably obesity and diabetes and other such issues linked to the gut biome. Even regular depression and some addictions. Makes sense to me. Yes, I’d give it a whirl.
Pilk@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I would want a gastro specialist to really go through the risks for my specific circumstances before I signed up for it.
The reason it can be so powerful are the same that can make it risky – people have died from poop that contained bad infectious material that was not picked up in screening, but also it might result in a transplant of traits from donors (food preferences, susceptibility to mental health concerns, weight changes etc.). That said, I also have an illness for which I would try any reasonably achievable treatment, even if the possibility of cure was low, and I’d be willing to take on more risk.
I used to conceptualise FMT as a very broad spectrum pro-biotic, but probiotics typically just pass right on through. An FMT really is a total re-colonisation an important system we still barely understand.
SituationCake@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I don’t know much about bipolar but it seems like a pretty awful experience. The chance of a a permanent cure would be tempting.
just_kitten@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
If nothing else seemed to be working I’d consider it. Definitely a strong link between the gut and brain so it doesn’t seem that out there even if the thought of it is gross (it’s not like I have to see or ingest or touch the stuff at least).
Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I would take a da poo.
Pretty crazy to think it works.
Catfish@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Yes. The idea is viscerally revolting, but same asmedical maggots makes sense. I could deal with the poop as a msy invisible process. Not maggots!
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
there is a better way
I think I would kiss people on the face lips to get the germs/biomass I need
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
omg, The young Seagoon’s local beach is under tsunami alert, luckily they live on a hill about a km away
just_kitten@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
That earthquake off the coast of Kamchatka has set off so many tsunami warnings across the Pacific! 8.8 is big though.
SituationCake@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
NZ far away. They are saying the risk is strong currents and surges, but no evacuations needed as there are no land areas at risk. Just don’t go swimming or boating until the warning is lifted.

Thoughts on Deb mashed potato? Seems to be all that’s in supermarkets for instant mashed potato. I have been randomly craving mashed potato and wanna try.
TheWitchofThornbury@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Deb is fake mashed potato. It also goes very very gluey unless made up veerry carefully and not stirred too much. I wouldn’t bother with it. For shelf stable spuds, buy brushed potatoes, put them in a brown paper bag with a dry wettex/foam sponge in your fridge crisper drawer - they will last 6 months at least and maybe longer. Toss any that grow green sprouts or get very wrinkly, but most will still be good at least that long and will taste much much better than Deb. Also a shittonne cheaper. If you can, go to Vic Market and get a 5kg bag which will last a long time.
Also, for the absolute best mashed spud, chop well-scrubbed brushed spuds into largish chunks (no need to peel), put in COLD water and bring up to a boil very slowly. The 15 mins starts as the water begins to simmer. This does wunnnderful things as the cell walls of the spud slowly degrade but the starch grains don’t, so the resulting mash is never gluey and tastes intensely of potato. Once tender, press/rub through a colander or sieve and beat a bit with a wooden spoon rather than using a potato masher, then steam off residual moisture before adding salt/pepper/milk/butter/cheeee to taste.
This mix can also be used to make pretty damn nice hash browns. Chill the mash in a lined loaf tin, then slice into convenient size(s), dust with seasoned flour and fry. You can even egg/panko the slices for extra crunch. Coated slices can be frozen for instant hash browns as needed. And you are fully in control of the shape …
Force_majeure123@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
That was an excellent post. However. YOLO Deb
bacon@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Make your own
SituationCake@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Have never tried it and have no intention to. Leave that ultra processed chalk on the shelf. If you can boil water you can make mashed potato. No skills required. Peel and chop potato, boil in salted water until done. Drain, mash, add some butter and milk. Fluffy goodness done.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
okay guys I gotta change seats and do some walking at home to ease my back
tombruzzo@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I got Spaghetti Kart working on a laptop at home, it’s a decompiling of Mario Kart 64 that makes it work more like a native pc game with improved resolutions and framerates.
It makes a huge difference and the game feels so much nicer. Also, I’m proud to announce my boys are more interested in chasing the train in that one level than doing the race, as you should be.

Well my day didn’t as planned in regards to my toe.
Needless to say I freaked out and got quite stressed.
Toe details
When I got home I checked the dressing around my toe and noticed a coloured spot. Turned out I had agitated it a bit and it was some sort of liquid and made my toe wet. In addition to that I noticed my toenail was lifting more than what it seemed to be a couple of days ago, I may have made it worse by going to work today. I’ve booked into another clinic with a new doctor but I think I’m going to have to face reality that I’ll end up losing my pinky nail.

geebus, I’m reading the local Detroit newspaper with no adblock, I’m getting ads for tasers, engine blocks and scales that measure in grams 😧
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
got a really nice small lamp thru aliexpress
when aliexpress do good they do really good 👍
and it’s such a beautiful day, I won’t go to beach or do errands because back so I will read by a sunny window ( I have so much to do 😔) I read a short book on Australian landscape painters yesterday , I really like Charles Condor and Lloyd Rees but Heysen landscapes are the places I grew up with, they resonate. The bright yellow skies, colours faded from the sun , the dry air, the heat, the quiet, old old trees, and farms.
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I’m wavering on getting rid of this tv. Maybe I could get a PS2 off eBay as they play dvds too. I regret getting rid of my old one.
But then I’d have to find games and dvds I wanted to play/watch and find a non-awkward place to put it. I’m trying to pare my possessions down dammit
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Sorry for the repeated negative posts but still feel shit from the sleep thing today.
I just want things to go back to normal. It’s fucking me up at work. Tired, demoralised.
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
You’re ok mate. Vent all you like. I’m about to get personal…
I know you were having constipation problems. Is that still the case? Because that can have a big impact on your sleep and well-being. If your not shitting every day or atleast every second day something is wrong.
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I appreciate it, I just hate being so negative.
That other issue cleared up. It’s this anti depressant that’s the problem. Since I started taking it (also works to quit smoking) sleep has been shit but it does a great job with other stuff.
Now it has to be one or the other.
It’s tough tbh.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
change in meds can do that
SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Between 3/day and once every three days is medically acceptable.
