Apparently using them like that can also help to remove a splinter. It didn’t work for me, but that’s probably because the “splinter” turned out to be a small stick requiring surgical intervention. But the whole osmotic pressure thing is supposed to work on normal splinters.

My favourite was the guy interested in my $5 fishing net, who asked if I could post it and told me he didn’t need the handle so I could cut it off with a hacksaw.
I’m a definite fan of giving stuff away, but stuff you can’t just drop down at the op shop is a pain. I’ve found if I put a low price on there will often be competition to take it off my hands, but some items seem to just bring out crazy people no matter what you do. The fishing net was a bit wild, I was totally flooded with enquiries for that one. According to the guy that bought it it’s a really good net for boat fishing because it’s really deep and has a lip you can use to pull the boat towards you, but I still think the 30+ enquiries I was flooded with in the first few hours is a bit odd.

Looks like my good run on marketplace is at an end. Today’s buyer was a no show, and the person who made an offer on another item yesterday has ghosted. I knew it was too good to last!

They are good. I’m pretty sure I used to have some, and am now wondering where they went. Unfortunately they wouldn’t help in this case though - it’s all stuff like old tools, including a really heavy old drill press that is designed to be mounted on a post - my guess it is around 40-50kg, with handles and things sticking out everywhere to make it even more awkward. The rest is at least only heavy because there are so many things - including a rediculous number of hand saws. I’m not even sure where they have all come from, but begin to suspect that someone has been sneaking into my shed to add extra struff! It’s amazing what 20 years of living in the same spot can see you accumulate.

I am very much over trying to move and photograph heavy things to sell. Especially because there is not much room to move them in. But I’ve been having a good run on Marketplace and hopefully these will all be cleared out and I can stop tripping over them. buying that antique post drill press seemed a much better idea when I didn’t realise how big and heavy it was! Getting it to the front door if I manage to sell it is going to be quite a workout.

I did get one good symptom - it killed my appetite for a while, and whilst it has come back it is currently still just at a fairly normal level instead of the weird constant peri-menopausal super hunger I’ve had for ages. I’m hoping it lasts as long as possible, it might actually be possible for me to lose some of my excessive weight - I’ve already lost enough that my clothes are fitting properly again.

It was a bit weird - I thought I was better, but I just couldn’t be bothered doing anything. Then I actually got better and realised I hadn’t actually been completely well after all! A bit like having a dream that you woke up, and then actually waking up.

Hi everyone, long time no see :-)
I’ve been absent for a bit - I think I crashed a bit after Covid, but I am alive and well and getting back on track.

Losing a tooth gives you money. Knowing exactly where the tooth is and wanting it to be forcibly evicted is the expensive bit.

Better to avoid if possible. The brain freeze, not the excessive icecream. I recommend eating slowly over a longer period.

Hot today. It would be great if you could all refrain from burning things, crashing cars, locking kids/pets inside cars, or doing anything else that forms a risk to life or property.

I started off the day with a lovely Sunday sleep in. Unfortunately I was supposed to be at work, so I followed up with a bit of a rush and a late mark. Why do these things only happen to me on high penalty shifts?

That’s who I get mine from last time, after WGAC annoyed me by reducing the minimum time for their subscription. The paper is ok but not great quality, probably equivalent to the WGAC standard recycled stuff. The wrapping for each roll has lots of animal pictures on it, which I consider to be a good feature.

I survived day 1 back at work and am back for another day today. It is nice just being off the couch. The next challenge will be getting back on top of the housework and things that I’ve been letting slide for the last couple of weeks. I was a bit displeased with past me who decided to put off filling the car with petrol which meant I had to do that yesterday.

It’s been nearly two weeks since covid and I’m back to work tomorrow. I don’t feel too bad until I try to do anything, then I get tired out really quickly. At this stage I’m not sure if it’s because I am still unwell or just the result of having not done anything for ages. I also have a lingering cough, hopefully having to talk lots at work won’t trigger that. My job is about 50% talking, so if I can’t do that without coughing it will be an issue.
I also have lots of life admin slowly piling up, and have had to reschedule a few appointments. I did just finish a week with an activity tracker for the study I am taking part in - they will log a distinct lack of activity for me this week.

Quitting is hard. Every attempt teaches us something we can use for the next attempt, eventually you hit on the right thing that works for you.
Just don’t use my Dad’s method. He tried to quit once. It didn’t work, so instead of trying again he just pretended he didn’t smoke and spent years furtively sneaking off to smoke and buy cigarettes like a teenager. He somehow seemed to fool himself into thinking no one knew, even though it was incredibly obvious. It was bizarre, and meant that when he was finally forced to quit (when he was physically incapable of accessing cigarettes on his own) he had to go through the withdrawal alone and unsupported because he still couldn’t admit he had been smoking the whole time.
