He won’t live long enough to face consequences. Let him pass in infamy as the most corrupt ever. Let him be featured only in history about how fragile democracy can be.
And dish out justice for his minions and sycophants, everyone who violated the constitution, broke laws or enriched themselves. Especially including his family

Nope. Pardoning Nixon was a mistake that should not be repeated.
Giving him a general pardon and not for specifics was the mistake. Alternate history for Nixon going to trial or any other course other than the one he took is a wild ride. As is most points in history, but it would have been an ugly America, so Ford's spoken motive had some merit. Whether Reagan makes it in seems to be a debated point, depending on how long the Nixon trial(s) go.

Even if Trump copied Nixon by resigning early so Vance could pardon him, he’d still be facing various state charges. (And he could always be extradited outside the US for war crimes.)
Ford was a loyalist who put party over country. We needed a reckoning and that never happened. If it had happened, you’d have found a much different Reagan and Trump presidency.

The pardon isn’t the problem, it’s who gets elected. The power of the pardon has existed for a thousand years or so in English Common Law.
The next president should arrest every other president and conscribe them to slave labor until the nation’s school lunch debts are repaid.
