- Comment on During the lead up to the Holocaust did the N... regime just kidnap people who they even thought were Jews? Kind of like ICE is doing to citizens today? 1 week ago:
They worked towards this using the [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuremberg_Laws](Nuremberg Laws) and the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kennkarte. Most Jews identified themselves as Jewish because the alternative was worse.
Anyways, suspicion was good enough to jail possible Jews. And it got worse and worse in the lead up to the war.

Most awful idea of a skill. It’s literally a minigame.

- Comment on ANTI PEE PAINT 2 weeks ago:
Imo they should be funded by public budgets the way libraries, school buses, roads etc are.
They are, and many low traffic toilets are completely free.
However, in high traffic areas, some arguments they tend to give against this:
- Asking for a small amount of money deters a vandalism because people would only go in there to use the toilet. Not many people would pay to go and trash the place or put some tags in there.
- It’s an easy way to get extra money for maintenance
- In case of drug users it could help because some of them might already spend all their money on the drugs themselves thus making the small cost bothersome. (Although strong blue lights are a better deterrent because they hide your veins)
A lot of toilets in Europe in low traffic areas tend to be free. There’s also quite some open air urinals in heavy traffic areas that are free but they smell horrible.
There’s also some European countries that allow/tolerate public urination but limit it to non-privately owned natural bushes and require you to do it decently. (Not showing any genitals)
If you gotta pee and you don’t have any Euros on you, what else are you supposed to fucking do?? Literally what are your options at that point?
In places where they ask for money you can often plead your case and can enter without paying. Many places also ask for money without actually having somebody present or blocking your entry if you do not. I’ve seen a lot of little plates with cash just laying there without anybody being present.

- Comment on ISP tricked customers about fiber optics being used in their internet service, German court rules — 'full fiber' customers found to have 'last mile' copper connections 2 weeks ago:
There’s two arguments I have against your comment:
- Fiber is fiber. If even 1% of the connection is not fiber you can’t claim FULL fiber. That’s just not correct. It’s like claiming a dish is completely vegan, ignoring the fact it includes eggs, which makes it not vegan.
- There’s definitely a difference in fiber and copper wiring. Fiber is faster and allows for more bandwidth. For most home connections this is overkill and not noticeable. But an IT guy like me definitely prefers fiber over copper.
In my country it’s illegal to call it full fiber if it isn’t 100% fiber. That’s why the ISPs found a loophole and now call it “dynamic fiber”. They made me waste a shit ton of time troubleshooting why I wasn’t getting the fiber speeds, only to see a tiny print on the bottom of some KB article that said “only for those who have full fiber” after which I had to waste even more time trying to figure out what type of connection I had. I literally bought the “fiber” pack.

For developers in similar situations, where the corporate overlords make your life miserable; use dead man’s triggers Instead of a simple killswitch: manually start handling certificates, introduce memory leaks that you can easily clear, have excessive disk filling logs that you can daily clear, and all kinds of other stuff that is a perpetual dumpster fire that you extinguish as part of your job. Oh, and don’t forget to forget commenting and documenting. The next developer should instantly learn the pressure they have been putting on you.

Belgium. For the Dutch speaking part there’s VDAB, which handles the path from unemployment to employment. They are the ones that help you get a job, which is a requirement for unemployment benefits, so they are quite active. They currently have 246 different types of jobs listed that need more people. This list is actively referenced to by schools, especially on the degrees that lead to a job in this list, as well as all the school counselors that help you figure out what you want. There’s also many jobs in the list that do not require a degree or course, often for less wanted jobs that are harder to find people for.
- Comment on 🤡 We've all been played for fools. 🤡 2 months ago:
Where I live this is always mentioned. There are also many resources that list what jobs have too many people or not enough people. These are often linked to on the websites of schools right next to the degrees they offer. I remember being happy because the degree I went for had a gold star next to it telling me this is would lead to good job opportunities and a high pay. Also, the jobs with not enough people often have cheap or even free courses that are subsidized by my government. There was a big need for (well paid) underwater welders for example, and the full courses were completely free.
God I love socialism.
