Well, according to Ubisoft, they allow for a more unique experience by letting players personalize their characters or speed up progression. In other words, it makes things more fun… allegedly.

Yeah there’s no direct quote, and I can’t find what they’re referring to. I searched the doc for “unique”, “in-game”, and “microtransactions”, and didn’t see anything that might have been the source.

And regarding taking less time to progress, borrowing from South Park's "freemium" explanation, maybe making the gameplay loop a bit more than just barely fun would avoid the player's need for the game to hurry up? And if it involves gambling, it's a whole other can of worms.

More and more people avoid games with micro transactions. So I guess whoever stated that line lives in a different universe.
