thanks. i needed you outweird my coworker.
Now we just need Jim Carrey crawling out of his asshole
That sounds like parthenogenesis to me.
The stingray ended up being sick and not actually pregnant. They were possibly seeing cysts, not eggs. Or possibly cysts and eggs and the illness caused the embryos to abort and were eaten before anyone noticed them.
Sting Jesus, while obviously a joke, doesn’t really make sense does it? Wouldn’t it be Sting Mary? Or Sting Jesus’s Mom? I’m not a Bibleologist of course, I only play one in the internet.
Big wheel keep on turnin’. Sting Mary keep on burnin’.
I’m extremely surprised ‘’‘’‘they’‘’‘’ would think there’s any species of shark could father babies with a ray, though but then maybe I’m just a big ole dumby for thinking they would be in reference to the keepers and support staff who cared for and/or studied Sting Mary.
Sting Jesus is the bebe.
Before Sting there was Police. So it’s Police Mary
What, you’ve never nutted in a stingray before?
Me nutting in a stingray isn’t the surprise. Her being pregnant is the surprise. This one isn’t on me!
Afterwards, it stings when you pee
Disrespectful zoophilia jokes are still a thing in 2026?
Mofo, it’s 2026 ain’t it and you just read one!
Some sting ray enthusiast from the staff transported sting ray semen into the tank.
Shark ray pewpew
Put a fricken laser on it
We just went snorkeling with stingrays in the Bahamas, and they had the same thing happen. The enclosure was only females, and yet one of them has gotten pregnant.
I assumed she was pregnant when the put them in the enclosure and they didn’t know it? Or that they weren’t as good at distinguishing make/female as they thought they were.
But you know, maybe there are some cool optional hermaphroditic traits in sting rays that biologists are just currently unaware of.

How slow is a stingrays metabolism and ovulation cycle?
Can it hold onto a fertilized egg for a long while?
Slab_Bulkhead@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
yeah thats what i was thinking hell look at cuddlefish they literally mate with a bunch of males, save their sperm separately in packets and then pick the ‘best’ to optimize the genetic quality. nature is wack. would be wild to learn another creature unlocked Parthenogenesis tho.

Cuddlefish are a fictional species from the game Subnautica. I think you mean cuttlefish.

I just kind of assumed that stingrays were capable of parthenogenesis.
Did a cursory search and this was the first result which put a dampener on the whole situation unfortunately.

Sounds like they’ve perfected the process and us humans could learn a thing or two from them 😄

Spindle like they don’t have time to cuddle.

Honey bees are another good example of this.
