Same “Average Joe”, 4 years later:
A woman? Ew, I rather vote for trump again. Or stay at home.
His wife died from cancer, if he had to live through it every one else should too.
this is literally my father
There was a community gathering in support of a rural hospital that’s in danger of closing specifically due to medicaid cuts. Some of the attendees had signs and one of them said something like “Healthcare for All”. Shit you not, 3 different vehicles that drove by shouted out the window some variation of “How are we going to pay for it?”
Of course those drive-by naysayers never stop to actually discuss it with folks.
Keep in mind, these specific people are almost certainly locals whose friends and family will ultimately be negatively impacted by the closure of the hospital and we were there trying to make sure the community knows what’s happening, why it’s happening, and what they might be able to do to avoid it closing.
Go figure.
We already have paid for it, but our money is being mismanaged by the fucking idiots that those idiots keep voting in.
How are we going to pay for it is an example of a thought terminating cliché. Much like It’s just a theory referring to biological evolution. There are mountains of arguments to be made to the contrary, but for the indoctrinated individual, the phrase is enough.
See also, the clobber passages in the bible regarding LGBT+ folk (specifically gay men). Scholars might explain what they mean, that their intent is not for committed same-sex relationships as they appear in modern society, or that biblical mores are generally not applicable to modern society (for example its full endorsement of slavery). But none of that matters to the loyal indoctrinated cult follower, whose thinking terminates at the passage itself.
Shouldn’t have been named Joe, probably. He hates those guys.
Average Sleepy Joe. What a loser. Wife gets cancer. Sad. Many such cases.
'Murica is a joke
Unfortunately, it was never funny
I look forward to watching that backwards shit hole sink into the ocean
I can’t even imagine America with a president like Bernie Sanders. It would be… Good? I can’t see it.
2016 felt like a pivotal moment and we got stuck with the worst outcome. Sometimes I wonder how much different everything would have turned out if Bernie had gotten the nomination and went on to become president.
Fucking Brexit.
I feel like 2024 was such a pivotal year. Economy going well inflation getting under control, interest rates falling. We were finally investing a little in our infrastructure, our future. Progress toward getting college costs under controlEV sales and renewable energy were gangbusters, record amounts of public land protected from drilling. The 2035 goal for many states to phase out new combustion vehicles looked achievable. Federal state and local incentives were helping more homeowners switch away from fossil fuels, to even free solar for low income. More locally we had passed a millionaires tax going toward transit improvements and free school lunch. Some amount of free public university…… it was a great time to be alive!
We had made so much progress that 2024 was the first time in my life I thought America was ready for a progressive
I was so very very wrong
West Wing was a decent series. Portrayed an administration of people who weren’t perfect, but tried to do the right things.
They had us watch the Filibuster episode in school, and boy did that whitewash such a horrendous loophole in our system.
Aren’t they ALL exceptionally awesome until they get elected and nothing ever changes then?
Regarding the TV show, I quite liked Designated Survivor
One small issue. It’s not ‘Trump’. It’s literally every US president ever, maybe except one or two. Maybe. And Bernie knows this. He’s a smart guy. I don’t know why he sometimes does this, but I don’t like it when smart guys make less-than-smart arguments.
Sometimes I read or listen to him and think: “Hey, maybe some American politicians actually want change”. Other times it’s posts like this one, and I wonder if he really wants change. Lasting change.
Personally, I don’t have the slightest issue with him calling out Trump. However, this rhetoric has one fatal flaw that so far seems unadressed among public or influential figures. Namely - if you keep blaming Trump for everything, that suggests that he’s a problem - the only problem, even - not a symptom of a broader problem. And that removing him will solve everything. Which it won’t. Of course it won’t. But some people seem to think it will. And some will continue thinking or hoping so even after the fact. That’s the problem.
So if medicaid pays for the cancer treatment, someone in the medical industry would get paid. Surprised that the medical industry is not lobbying harder for that. What’s the point of charging and bankrupting the average Joe, as if there’s much money there?
You’d think keeping your citizens (your tax base) healthy would generate the most tax revenue?
Because the docs and execs at the hospital still get their big nut, the raises and bonuses and zero impact to their benefits or retirement.
It’s everyone else at the hospital that feels the cuts; elimination of benefits, no raises, bonuses “suspended”.
Source worked for nonprofit hospitals for 2 decades…
Maybe “average Joes” should start doing something about it
Yes - it is Trump alone. Not Obama and the Dems forward. It isn’t their consolidated power where they rule together and seek to put us against one another.
Bernie gets the great position of never having to be responsible. And I say that having voted for him and who he has said to repeatedly.
Is this English?
It is Presencolinensinainciusol
do something, then. you are an elected official.
But there’s only one Elon, only one Bibi. If you pay for one Joe you have to pay for them all, and that’s a lot!
Anyway millions and billions are peanuts now. The Iran war is at about 1.5 trillion dollars so far, and you can guess who on the list that benefits.
The Iran war is at about 1.5 trillion dollars so far
The entire military industrial and state surveillance budget for the year is $1.5T. The Iran War specifically is running somewhere south of $100B… so far.
Of course, that’s $100B we were told couldn’t go towards public education or universalizing Medicare or domestic commuter rail or energy efficiency improvements to curb infrastructure costs or any amount of ecological mitigation from all the Drill Drill Drill we’ve been doing.
Instead, it’s given us a global supply chain crisis and a new asset bubble and a bunch of banged up air bases and naval vessels. And, of course, a bunch of dead little school girls. Overall, one might argue this is a net negative for everyone involved. But you’d never know it the way the pundit class chatters on.
And don’t forget the trillions of dollars spent on destroying apartment bocks on iran, tents of refugees in gaza or missile striking pig farms in South America, god forgive they used thar money on something useful.
“true, but also he hates Mexicans so…”
Peasants would be grocery store workers while the Bourgeoisie are the bankers. The bourgeoisie are doctors, lawyers, the grocery store owner.
You have to remember that without all this accumulated wealth the trickle down economy would not work…
People are just dumb. How can it trickle down if it hasn’t overflown yet? We need to give the top 1% more money, so that overflows and starts trickling down! It’s basic economy!
I know, it’s been 45 years of trickle down economics and the economic equality has gotten worse each year. People just love to believe that they somehow will be part of the 1% magically one day.
Eugenics in a nutshell.
Hey don’t forget the $300 billion he sent to Iran.
Just a reminder that it was reported two years ago that Mossad was entirely embedded into the upper echelons of Iranian government.

Don’t forget the $400 million for the Ballroom, which he said would be built without taxpayer money.

Or the up to a billion to refit a used jet for no reason, lol
AA5B@lemmy.world 1 day ago
I was just watching a video on that jet …… I knew it was a scam that the government was paying for so the orange clown can take it with him, but …… apparently he just want to use it as decoration to build a hotel around
Which is another scam …… typical donors pay for a presidential library or museum but he doesn’t want those. He expects donors to pay to build him a hotel to keep enriching himself through politics
