He said he was “kind of retarded” once, so partially true.
Was Alex Jones right about anything?

There’s a cabal of rich pedophiles pulling strings in society… except many of them are his friends and benefactors, and he’s been awfully quiet since the Epstein files got partially released…
Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 8 hours ago
I mean…yeah…but also the Sandy Hook victims won their lawsuit, and from my understanding he doesn’t have a show anymore. He had to give InfoWars over to The Onion.
So, yeah. You haven’t heard from him in a while because he has no platform.
BucketBong@p.hobo.social 7 hours ago
I hope he’s doing what he did the last time he got taken off air, and just starts wandering the streets screaming about conspiracy theories like the homeless nutjob he has always supposed to be.

Last I was aware, The Onion’s takeover is (frustratingly) still tied up in court

Broken clock is right twice a day, but there’s a reason we don’t use them to tell time shrug-outta-hecks
Anonymous_Leaker@lemmy.world 11 hours ago
Those clocks are still all in schools, lol.
NotSteve_@lemmy.ca 7 hours ago
I mean, they’re used everywhere still and aren’t exactly a dated form of timekeeping or anything.
MidsizedSedan@lemmy.world 5 hours ago
On an interesting clock note. Yes, analogue clocks are in school, but at home, kids are surrounded by digital clocks on their screens.
So we are getting kids who can easily reach a digital clock, but are struggling with basics “short hand means hour”
Peppycito@sh.itjust.works 10 hours ago
I’ve been saying this a lot recently, but a calcucan sometimes be a clock.

His infamous statement “chemicals in the water that turn the freaking frogs gay” may have been a corruption of the discovery that sewage runoff was feminizing fish because of the estradiol in urine from women on birth control, and other endocrine disrupting chemicals newly found in rivers from human sources.

Also, Atrazine (a pesticide that contaminates water sources) turns the friggin frogs trans.
Kolanaki@pawb.social 7 hours ago
He probably got his name right.
KubrickFR@lemmy.world 5 hours ago
Almost, probably a bit too complicated: Alexander Emerick Jones, source Wikipedia
TheReanuKeeves@lemmy.world 11 hours ago
He was kinda sorta in a way right about the frogs turning gay
bamboo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 hours ago
Wasn’t his thing with the frogs turning gay that the government was putting something in the water turning frogs and people gay? Maybe I don’t have a complete understanding of his hypothesis but how was he right about this?
Mostly_Gristle@lemmy.world 6 hours ago
The real thing was that at one point there was so much plastic pollution in certain parts of the environment that some of the endocrine disrupting chemicals in it, like BPA (which mimics estrogen) and certain pthalates, were leaching into to water in large enough concentrations to make noticeable changes in the bodies and sex organs of animals that are extra sensitive to those things, like frogs and other amphibians. It’s a big part of the reason that 15 or 20 years ago everyone started switching to metal water bottles, and the plastic ones all advertise that they’re BPA-free now. Alex Jones took that and spun it up into some grand conspiracy about the government intentionally putting chemicals in your water to feminize you and make you docile so, I dunno, you won’t put up a fight when they come to round you up and put you in FEMA camps or whatever, I guess. At least that’s the basic gist as I remember it. I never really paid an enormous amount of attention to Jones, so I might not be 100% on the details.
EpeeGnome@feddit.online 8 hours ago
Yeah, it wasn’t secret government chemicals like he thought, but regular old pollutants. I can’t recall if it was medication from insufficiently treated sewage, or industrial runoff, or what, but there really was a case of stray chemicals making some wild frogs gay. So he was a little bit right about gay frogs. He just was, as usual, astoundingly wrong about those chemicals being a secret government plot to turn people gay.
HopeOfTheGunblade@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 hours ago
Yeah, but he turned a real problem of hormone mimicking chemicals in the food chain into a meme. Honestly would have been better if he missed that one.
Notyou@sopuli.xyz 10 hours ago
I was thinking this too.
adespoton@lemmy.ca 11 hours ago
Yes; I believe he said at one point that there’s a sucker born every minute.
Nytefyre@piefed.social 11 hours ago
No he wasn’t. He’s a fucking shit-stirring asshole who believed for the longest time until the courts had to twist his arm about it, that actual children did die during a shooting massacre. He deserves to have his platform shut down and given to a satire company, he deserves to be drained of all of his financial resources.
And before anyone says “his voice is being silenced! what about his first amendment rights?!”. All that his voice and platform has done, is just damage and warp the minds of anyone who so much gave him honest attention. Just so that they too, could be walking mouthpieces for him. I mean that’s partially why we’re dealing with this war now over misinformation, it is partly because of this prick.
If there’s anyone whose voice I wouldn’t cry about being silenced forever, its this clown.
Iconoclast@feddit.uk 42 minutes ago
No he wasn’t.
Bohemian Grove turned out to be very much a real thing.
You don’t need to like or agree with him, but twisting the reality isn’t helpful. The question wasn’t what you think of him. That’s a subjective question. Whether he was right about anything is an objective one.
Nobody here is defending anything he has said or done so I have no clue where that rambling is coming from.

Fun that you ask!
There is a very well done coverage on one of his topics regarding “Gay frogs” made by OkiWiredStories
Link to the short documentary:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=i5uSbp0YDhc
Also an interview with the scientist from the documentary
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eUpRIyHp_Po
It was a long time since I saw it but in short:
Alex jones claimed there was chemicals in the water that altered and affected humans to be more gay/lesbian, it even turned the frogs gay.
Turns out there was man working for a pesticide company resesrching the effect it had on amphibius animals, one thing was the gender of frogs.
He found it had negative effect but the compandy would try to stop him when he found this, the docunentary shows how sygenta tried to stop him and the way corruption works on local and higher corporate levels.
I recomend watching as it is so well and gives you a insigt in the way corruption and corporate leverage works.
So i bet Alex Jones was onto somethign here, but in the end Alex Jones are paid by shady companies.

Endocrine disruptors are an important topic in environmental biology. They certainly have effects on wildlife, but Jones clearly didn’t understand it very well. There’s a pretty good overview on Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endocrine_disruptor
BucketBong@p.hobo.social 10 hours ago
He was right about Bohemian Grove, infact the reason we know what we do about that is because of him sneaking in to film it.
loweffortname@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 hours ago
People had snuck into Bohemian Grove for decades before Alex’s stunt:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bohemian_Grove
The “unauthorized entry” section stretches back to 1980.
Alex Jones is a conman.
unemployedclaquer@sopuli.xyz 7 hours ago
Jon Ronson and Knowledge Fight are excellent sources on the Alex Jones visit to Bohemian Grove. Ronson was there with Jones.
Mostly_Gristle@lemmy.world 6 hours ago
It’s kind of hilarious hearing Jones’ story about “sneaking” into Bohemian Grove told from the point of view of the other people who went there with him. It’s such a great insight into how absolutely contrived all his content is.

If Alex Jones told me it was sunny out I would bring my umbrella.
Anonymous_Leaker@lemmy.world 11 hours ago
To be fair, the weather man can always fuck up too.
GuerillaGorillas@lemmy.world 7 hours ago
That’s actually the original use of an umbrella funnily enough.
Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 8 hours ago
…wait. Did you just solve the conspiracy of the umbrella man? It was just a guy who refused to believe the weather reporter in Dallas?

Most conspiracy theories get very close to the truth until they make a hard right turn into “I made it the fuck up” village.
