Well I will be. The nice pest control ossifer that I rang up for this morning turned up almost to the minute. Will be removing 2 wasp nests. If wasps still present after a week, they come back and do it again. Could get used to this sort of service.

This is a story which makes me happy! I’m still peeved at my kids school because there was a bee hive/nest thing in a tree and they brought in exterminators who fumigated with toxic chemicals and killed all the bees. The kids said when they went out to play there were all these bees dying and convulsing on the ground 🥺 I like how your story goes better: bees saved and taken to where they’re useful, and wasps sent to hell in a haycart 👍

All this fuss about a baby at comedy show. In order to be effective some performances demand that noise in the audience is controlled. Would you take a baby to a classical musical performance or an opera?
And all these false equivalence to restaurants and cafes. It’s really not the same. People go to those places specifically to converse and make noise so it’s not a problem there (or shouldn’t be).
She deliberately went into the performance knowing it might be an issue, and then is shocked pikachu when she got booted.
bull@aussie.zone 6 months ago
She 100% would be the person who takes their baby to the movies (to see a non-kids film). The entitlement is off the charts.
Nath@aussie.zone 6 months ago
Ironically, Ms Faranda was politely asked by hosts of The Project to hand her baby to her partner last night after the child’s crying disrupted the interview.
HA!!
Yeah, I took the kids out all the time when they were babies. Shops, markets, cafes etc. I never took them to a cinema or a show, because that would be inconsiderate.I’m all about parental rights, and absolutely all about parental facilities catering to dads. But my rights end at the point where they impinge on yours.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 6 months ago
I took little miss seagoon to see bambi when she was five, matinee of course, at valhalla
I also took her to see Cats when she was about 7
here’s the thing, by considering the needs of the child the child will be content and happy and easy , any place where where the child is going to miserable you don’t take them and that also works out for the other people there
I feel so bad for that baby in the news
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 6 months ago
The thing is when you make a mistake and everyone does, you say “I am sorry. I didn’t mean to make anyone uncomfortable and I apologise” then you end it.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 6 months ago

Munchausen by proxy… sorta
used the child to get attention for herself
dumblederp@aussie.zone 6 months ago
The “fuss” is just media hype bullshit.
imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 6 months ago
Also it was clearly advertised as 15plus. To me that’s not just a content warning but an indication that it’s not a kids event.

Welp I’ve booked weekend accommodations because I refuse to sit in my apartment for my birthday. I’ll hit the road on Thursday and make for the border. Each of the 3 nights away will be a different town along the border (nowhere new… I think I’ve been to all of the border towns now anyway) before I come back to Melbourne on Sunday for dinner with the family to cap off the long weekend.
Looking forward to hitting the road, a few nice dinners and chillaxing.
Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 6 months ago
Well, there’s another border from the Murray - try Nhill and the Naracoorte caves.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 6 months ago
Naracoorte caves are cool. 👍 The south australia border area is really nice, spectacular coast and inland the forests are beautiful

Hot take Tuesday. Whenever I’m scrolling on news sites or the other place and I come across headings like “What is this thing?” or “You’ll never guess what someone found in their Big Mac?” I don’t want to know. I’m not clicking.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 6 months ago
Same.
I can’t be bothered with teaser headings, that includes on news articles.
ajsadauskas@aus.social 6 months ago
@Seagoon_ @CEOofmyhouse56 And more often than not, the answer is lame.
"You'll never believe what this '90s heartthrob looks like now!"
It looks like him, but 30 years older.
And I would believe it, because he was famous 30 years ago.
"You'll never believe what the kids of this celebrity are doing now!"
Going to uni.
Because they're in their early 20s.

I feel bad for kids who will grow up not knowing what they’ve missed (by extension I’d be the same, I never really experienced Australia prior to 2009 when I first arrived). The new normal…
Duenan@aussie.zone 6 months ago
Piggybacking off from you I hate news articles that tease something then it ends with “Click here to find out!”
Pisses me off to no end.
Also I had to look up the interview news about the baby and The Project.
Sky news and News.com.au have the headlines of the “host mocked for interview”
Most other news outlet are neutral with their headlines but the vitriol of sky news and News.com.au is disgusting.

Sitting in a city office, after having spent 2 hours getting here. Wearing a with mask, listening to all the coughing around me. Doing work that I could do just fine at home. Wearing headphones with music on to block out the noise from all the other people on teams meetings, so no “culture and collaboration” is happening. How has the world come to this absolute bullshit of “return to office, Covid is over, back to having no life”?

RustyRaven@aussie.zone 6 months ago
I fear I may have developed a chocolate pudding addiction. I have had chocolate pudding with custard for dessert 3 nights in a row, and now I have some in the oven for lunch. If this continues I may end up having breakfast pudding.
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 6 months ago
Made grilled chicken with mash and Brussels for dinner, but also a casserole to simmer away. It smells bloody lovely and I can foresee a second dinner being partaken of 😆
Also I ripped out a molar which has been giving me the shits for a while, rotting away right up the back there. It feels great! I feel strangely fantastic! I can smile without something jabbing me in the cheek! I can eat without accidentally chomping down on an out of place tooth!
SituationCake@aussie.zone 6 months ago
Sounds like a great dinner. But wait, do you mean at dentist or DIY?!
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 6 months ago
DIY. I’ve known this tooth was a gonner for over 10 years as a result of consulting a periodontist all those years ago. Lately it got a bit loose, so I’ve been working on this tooth for a month or so, just wiggling it and gently twisting. Today I figured it was probably at the stage where it’d actually come out. Horrid thing it was, glad to be finally rid of it.

I’m gonna become a gamer tomorrow. I’ve got the Nintendo Switch juiced up. I found a game called Warshmellows. It’s a shooty game but fun with cute and violent characters. I’m gonna see if there’s a cricket game too. Just waiting for the “technicians” to hook me up so I can practice today.
I’ve never played the Switch before. Should be fun.
Duenan@aussie.zone 6 months ago
Oohh sounds exciting if it’s your first time.
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 6 months ago
I just played Mario cart. I felt like I could easy break that tiny little control.

Ugh only got 4 hours of sleep from stress, did not pick up car last night due to poor communication from them around payment methods. Got in a really foul mood and threw aside my people-pleasing tendencies to let the seller know how disappointed I was that they wasted so much of my time after already having spent so much time on this and giving them a frankly better price than they deserve. Fuck it, I knew it made them uncomfortable and I dug in because I’m tired of always being the one copping it.
Thankfully the husband at least gave me a ride all the way home and I found a friend who’s kind enough to drive me back down tonight. I cannot wait for this saga to be over!!!
Duenan@aussie.zone 6 months ago
Is it still worth picking up after all you had to go through?
just_kitten@aussie.zone 6 months ago
It’s too far gone now as I had paid a fair bit for a pre purchase inspection and don’t have the time and energy to follow up with other sellers who haven’t got their rwc and whatnot organised yet. My brain can’t handle any more stress 😭
At least I can finally confirm I’m starting my second job next Monday. Things have been alarmingly tight after losing 5 days worth of pay thanks to my current employer dragging their heels on authorising additional work 😒
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 6 months ago
My husband is on holidays. We declared tomorrow “Operation Special Biscuit Day” while the kid is at school. We are trying to think of everything we may need so we don’t need to leave the house. So far on the list is chicken nuggets.
Duenan@aussie.zone 6 months ago
Don’t know about you but I’d go pizza and lollies more snacks
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 6 months ago
We bought a box of party pies, cheese & bacon rolls, ice creams, peanut m&ms, chips etc. The funny thing is I don’t even get the munchies. They’re there just in case.

Finished Fallout. I’ve played 3 and 4 so the revelation wasn’t a MASSIVE surprise. But I like how effectively everyone stuck to their game roles. Bad guys were bad, morally grey guys were grey, and nice smattering of wasteland just to make everything a touch more complicated. My only complaint was we saw a more Fallout 4 Brotherhood than a Fallout 3 one.
useless_modern_god@aussie.zone 6 months ago
I played all the Fallout installations and loved every one, however, I cannot get on board with the show. Most of it feels like “filler” that I must trudge through to get to any meaningful revelation.
StudChud@aussie.zone 6 months ago
I ought to play Fallout 3, never got around to it. Though, having never played 1 or 2, I think I should start there. But the timer puts me off… But I want to talk to Killian Darkwater in 1 because it’s voiced by Richard Dean Anderson, and oooh boy did I have a crush on him when I was a kid watching SG1 and MacGyver 👀
New Vegas is way better than 4, imo.
And my partner is raving about the show, so I should watch that haha

For some reason reading the news from overseas is particularly painful…just so so parochial and petty bourgeois.
just_kitten@aussie.zone 6 months ago
Depends on the calibre of what you’re reading… Tbh I find most commercial news in Australia to be exactly that, parochial and petty bourgeois
wscholermann@aussie.zone 6 months ago
In this case it was the Age. But I have to say even the ABC leans this way at times and has become a bit click baity.

Don’t know what’s better. A screaming junkie, or those Jesus pushers outside Footscray station that stop you so you have to take your headphones off.

Why stop? I just hiss at them and keep going.

When I was young and edgy, I’d tell them “nah I can’t step foot in a church, sorry, I burst into flames.”

Electrical Safety guy came from Smart house. Everything is good! Which means my broken microwave can be returned to the Good Guys haha! If it wasn’t the magnetron that died, I would give it to my Opa to fix, but knowing him he’d irradiate himself or something 🤦♀️
Had a lovely chat with the tech, though, apparently Detector Inspector has bought Smart house lol. See how that pans out, considering Detector Inspectors schedulers are in Manila, and we all know my feelings on scheduling being outsourced to another country (they don’t realize how long it takes to get across any of our cities 😑, not blaming them of, blaming the companies that outsource like that).
Quitting smoking is going well, was super cranky last week due to not having it and also having that inspection. Luckily they didn’t spot the parts of the carpet that the carpet moths got to, but I blame the LL for installing wool-blend carpet - stupid fuck. Besides, if we stay here long enough, we could prolly chalk it up to wear and tear lol.
The cat has come out of hiding, and is begging for a cuddle. I must oblige him.

After my last disastrous attempt at picking up this spare number plate, I’m trying again. There’s a teacher’s strike on, so I have a rare opportunity during office hours for this.
We left home at 7am, just got to the department of transport just now. It opens in 15 minutes. 8am on a Tuesday morning is obviously a busy time, since I’m 36th in the queue.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone 6 months ago
The new cordless 2-in-1 stick vac actually is fairly quiet on the low setting.
There are a few drawbacks. Like it’s not that powerful on the low setting so might take a few passes (and lifting it a bit) for bigger particles like tracked paper litter, the canister fills up fairly quickly with cat hair, and the filter might be harder to clean + no replacement filters on sale because Kmart. No upholstery attachment, only one crevice tool with brush.
But it’s a lot easier to use, folds down small, the handheld pops out easily and the sound is not too bothersome to Melbcat. Alright for quick cleans.

I was so stressed earlier today that it triggered my asthma and I was getting really short on breath. New experience as a new asthma sufferer. A lot of Ventolin and a good gym session later, feeling much more relaxed. Night rain helps too although it’s really coming down.
Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone 6 months ago
I got the full story about that guy I’ve mentioned the other day.
Everything I’ve told him in confidence has been spread around. People I haven’t met, know about my substance issues from the past.
I am so fucking angry right now. But, it will pass.
He’s dead to me.
Baku@aussie.zone 6 months ago
Is this the one who’s been self destructing?
I’m sorry gibsy. I’m not sure this is the case, although it probably does feel like it but I’m sure you won’t be judged about your past as much as it feels like you might. Those people don’t even know you, they’re probably not likely to pass too much judgement
Try not to let it affect your trust too much (which I realise is easier said than done). There’s still good people out there, and speaking from experience, isolating yourself won’t help
Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone 6 months ago
That’s the one. Yeah the first thing in my mind is “fuck this, never trusting anyone again”, but ultimately that’s the wrong option. I can’t let a shitty experience stop me from an important part of relationships with people. I’ll just have to be much, much more observant of people before I discuss certain topics.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 6 months ago
I’m so sorry.
I was thinking about what you wrote, how he was doing things to teach people a lesson.
That’s just crazy, what would be the point?
It’s really just sadism framed with words that blame the victim.
He’s a bad person.
Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone 6 months ago
Thank you. I’ve been stewing about it most of the day, but it’s passed now. I blocked him on everything. I hate losing a friend, but this guy definitely isn’t one.
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 6 months ago
Is this the bloke who use you as an emotional crutch whilst he fucks away his life?
Maaaaan how pathetic do you have to be that someone respectfully tells you that they need space so you proceed to dump on them to make yourself feel better? Dudes done you a favor bro, hes made a very clear statement: “I’m a piece of shit and your time spent being my friend is wasted”.
Also its 2024, if other folks dunk on you for overcoming a substance abuse issue that’s just more trash taking itself out.
Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone 6 months ago
Exactly right mate. At the end of the day, it’s out there now. It took a metric fucktonne of effort, work and willpower to get where I am. I’m over being ashamed of it.
Llabyrinthine@aussie.zone 6 months ago
Ugh. That is awful. What a POS.
